Happy Halloween! Major Site Facelift

Posted 10/31/05 at 7:42pm by jamie

For you repeat visitors, you may have noticed the drastic change in layout to
IntoxiNation today. I have been working on these graphics and layout for
sometime now. Over all, the content is still the same. I did remove the links
section and everything is now incorporated into the Blogroll. Also all added
side content (poll, get active, Blogroll, headlines) are hosted on my own
server. This prevents numerous requests to different servers.

While the site is a little more graphic intensive, the actual template is
much more streamlined. This should result in quick page loads on returning
visits.

I am still using the Blogger comments. I plan on changing this over to a new
system in the near future. The new system will allow for threaded comments and
embeded posting of new comments (no need for popups). I will also have IP
banning capabilities which means no need for graphical word verification when
posting a comment. That system is still in the works and should be done in the
very near future.

I hope you enjoy the new layout. It seems much more pleasing to the eyes for
me right now, but you are the one that matters. Any comments, bugs, or
suggestions then please feel free to contact me at the link on the left.

Bush's Latest SCOTUS Pick

Posted 10/31/05 at 2:07pm by jamie

President Bush's pick for the Supreme Court, Samuel Alito, has so far pleased
the extreme right. The question will now be in the approval by the centrists.

This was a bold step for Bush. He would of had a better chance of getting
this confirmation through if he made it from the beginning instead of putting
the country through the Miers embarrassment.

It appears that this pick will face the hurdle of getting Democrats to
support him. This of course could lead to a filibuster and another show down
with Republicans and Democrats on the hill. Some part of me says this is what
Bush wants. It is no secret that the Republican party is highly divided right
now. Perhaps he feels that giving them a fight with Democrats will unit his
party. True Bush must remember that Parties don't win election, the candidates
do. With Bush's approval rating and perception of trustworthiness in the gutter,
why should American's be hopeful on his latest pick.

Here is a brief description of Alito that the Associated Press has put out
today:

On top of it all, Miers' nomination angered Bush's conservative backers.
Most welcomed the Alito pick.

So consistently conservative, Alito has been dubbed "Scalito" or "Scalia-lite"
by some lawyers because his judicial philosophy invites comparisons to
conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. But while Scalia is
outspoken and is known to badger lawyers, Alito is polite, reserved and
even-tempered.

"The Supreme Court is an institution I have long held in reverence," said
the bespectacled judge, a former prosecutor and government attorney who has
argued 12 cases before the Supreme Court. "During my 29 years as a public
servant, I've had an opportunity to view the Supreme Court from a variety of
perspectives."

CORRECTION: 4th Deadliest Month (not fifth)

Posted 10/31/05 at 1:53pm by jamie

Six soldiers were killed in Iraq today bringing the total amount of U.S.
casualties to 2024 according to
icasualties.org.
In the month of October, 91 soldiers have been lost which
makes it the fourth deadliest month since the war started.

The most troubling of this data is the fact that we suffered 46 deaths in the
time leading up to and including the constitution vote. That means we have lost
45 lives since the vote which is an indication that things are not getting
better, and actually they appear to be getting worse.

It was reported last week that we are also at one of the highest troop level
counts since major combat ended. We are now up to 161,000 troops in Iraq. It
seems as though our presence there is actually hindering the recovery more than
helping.

The finish line for our involvement in Iraq seems to be moving further away
and our President and his staff do not have a plausible plan on handling the
situation. It is time he addresses the nation and lets us know what he is going
to do to end this death mission for our soldiers. If not then it is time we get
someone who will answer to their bosses - the American people.

Forbes Magazine Attacks Bloggers - Coincidence?

Posted 10/29/05 at 6:04am by jamie

If you first read the cover story that appears on the November 14 issue of
Forbes magazine
you may think its just a typical article from a publication
that caters to the business community. Further reading into it reveals something
even more disturbing to people like me and other bloggers out there.

The article attacks bloggers around the country. It focuses on some of the
isolated incidents where blogs were used to attack companies or individuals.
Some of the attacks have actually been based on fact and there are some that are
based on lies.

One of the key victims of this attack is Google who hosts the very service
this blog is on.

But even the Constitution doesn't give a citizen the right to unjustly
call his neighbor a child molester. Google and the like argue they bear no
more responsibility for content than a phone company does for slander over
its wires. But Google's blog business looks less like a phone company and
more like a mix of reality TV and an online magazine. Bloggers provide the
fare, and Google maintains it for them free of charge, sometimes selling
ads.

Mehlman's Statement On The Indictment

Posted 10/29/05 at 1:19am by jamie

It took some time, but Ken Mehlman,
Republican National Committee
chairman,  issued a typical statement on today's indictment.

RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman On Today's
Announcement By Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald

Contact: Tracey Schmitt

WASHINGTON -RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement
regarding today's announcement by special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.

"Scooter Libby is a good and capable man who has given many years of his
life to serve our nation. Mr. Libby is entitled to his day in court to
answer the charges against him, receive a full airing of all the facts and
is innocent until proven otherwise.

"While some Democrats have acted irresponsibly in regards to this matter
from the beginning, the President and Republicans in Congress have and will
continue to focus on the American people's priorities: strengthening the
economy, winning the War on Terror, lowering energy costs and improving our
schools."

So Kenny-boy, Clinton also served his country well (very well according to
the polls throughout his time as President) yet your party continued to attack
him. Also, the Democrats acted irresponsible during this? Is questioning issues
of national security and intelligence during a time of war so irresponsible? I
guess according to your twisted views, the law is only meant to go after the
other party and not those inside of yours. Fitzgerald said it best when he said
"we are a country of laws and make sure them laws are enforced". Perhaps you
should of taken notes there Mehlman.

FITZMAS UPDATE

Heres an update on my previous post
Rove =
Offical 'a'.
This is the

Associated Presses
report on this issue:

'Official A' Stands Out in Indictment

By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer

In a sign of the trouble lingering for the Bush administration, the
indictment handed up Friday in the CIA leak probe refers to someone at the
White House known as "Official A."

The unidentified official could become a courtroom witness against I.
Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who left his job as vice presidential aide shortly
after his indictment on charges of obstruction of justice, making false
statements and perjury.

Although other officials are mentioned but not named in the indictment,
all were identified Friday afternoon during briefings at the Justice
Department.

Except for "Official A."

The mysterious official is identified in the indictment only as "a senior
official in the White House."

No mention is made of Karl Rove, the president's political adviser who
remains under investigation by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald.

It has been known that columnist Robert Novak spoke to Rove on July 9,
2003, saying he planned to report over the weekend that Valerie Plame, the
wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson, had worked for the CIA.
Rove told the columnist he had heard similar information.

Offical 'A' = Rove

Posted 10/29/05 at 12:46am by jamie

Official A is Rove. Official A is, according to the indictments, the one who
informed Novak of Plame's identity. This of course shows that Rove is not out of
hot water nor that the investigation is over.

This news is coming from

Raw Story
, but several newspapers will be breaking this story tomorrow. The
Associated Press is also working on a similar story.

This will make for an interesting trial as Rove will most likely be called in
to testify against Libby. Will Libby take the fall for Rove? That's the million
dollar question now and with the possibility of 30 years in prison, he just
might end up testifying against Rove.

Keeping in mind that most leaks regarding Rove has originated from his own
legal defense team, this is most likely a true scenario. Perhaps indictments are
expected in the near future against Rove and the information is coming out now
to help ease the shock and awe of announcement of those indictments.

This story is continuing to develop by leaps and bounds.

Fitzgerald's Press Conference

Posted 10/28/05 at 10:19pm by jamie

Fitzgerald gave one of the longest press conferences I think I have ever
witnessed. Saying that, it was also very interesting. He could not get into many
details of the case and left many of us wondering what is still to come but he
did let us in on what is known.

He started off by saying that any investigation focuses on the facts and not
on any statue. This should put to rest all those rumors of him indicting on
"technicalities" and not the actual crimes. The fact is there was actual crimes,
those being the ones listed in the indictment. Later during his question and
answer time he also made response to what certain right wingers called this
being a "technicality" by saying that truth is the "engine of justice".

He said that Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA agent was classified and that
people close to her did not even know of her employment. He also mentioned how
this hurt our nation as a whole and could prevent the hiring of further CIA
agents who might question the protection of their identity.

While the grand jury has expired, Fitzgerald did mention that he still has
access to other Grand Jury's should they be needed.

This story is far from over. This should prove an interesting weekend,
especially when it comes to the Sunday morning talk shows. Orin Hatch was
already on CNN trying to spin the situation with some of the same old talking
points that Valerie Plame was not covert and this charge is a technicality. I am
sure we will hear many new talking points by the end of the weekend.

BREAKING: LIBBY INDICTED

Posted 10/28/05 at 6:01pm by jamie

Scooter Libby has been indicted on 5 counts as follows:

  • 2 counts of perjury
  • 2 counts of making false statements
  • 1 count of obstruction of justice

According to the New York Daily News,

Dave Addington
is coined to replace Scooter Libby. Addington was the
official who authored the memo justifying torture and holding terrorist
prisoners indefinitely without charge.

Whatever Already
has a detailed history on Addington.

Raw Story is also reporting that the
investigation is expanding to look into the operations of the State Department
and National Security Councils actions leading up to the war. Rove has not been
indicted yet but he is still very much in hot water as this saga continues.
