More On The Boehner Letter

Posted 10/23/07 at 8:34pm by jamie

One part of the email I received from John Boehner's office has been eating at me all day:

Rush Limbaugh's strong support of and charity for U.S. troops is well established and was even recognized by the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. Unlike radical left-wing groups and their followers, Limbaugh's goal is to boost troop morale, not depress it by stalling the resources troops need to complete their mission.

I am so sick of this "we are more patriot than you" crap. What resources have left-wing groups stalled or blocked from our troops? Was it protection against IEDs? No - that was the President and the Congress, which was controlled by Republicans at that time, of which Mr. Boehner was part of the leadership.

Is it diminishing each of the 3,700+ lives sacrificed in this war of lies as "a small price to pay"? No! Again - that was Mr. Boehner. The friends I have buried from this war were NOT small prices.

Perhaps it is time for us to play these word games. How about-

John Boehner; "I masturbate to pictures of dead soldiers".

Was Rockefeller's Support Bought By The Telecoms?

Posted 10/23/07 at 5:38pm by jamie

This is a serious question that must be investigated:

Executives at the two biggest phone companies contributed more than $42,000 in political donations to Senator John D. Rockefeller IV this year while seeking his support for legal immunity for businesses participating in National Security Agency eavesdropping.

The surge in contributions came from a Who’s Who of executives at the companies, AT&T and Verizon, starting with the chief executives and including at least 50 executives and lawyers at the two utilities, according to campaign finance reports.

The money came primarily from a fund-raiser that Verizon held for Mr. Rockefeller in March in New York and another that AT&T sponsored for him in May in San Antonio.

Mr. Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, emerged last week as the most important supporter of immunity in devising a compromise plan with Senate Republicans and the Bush administration.

In the wake of Duke Cunningham, any activity like this must come under heavy scrutiny. I don't care what party the person belongs to. The people of this country are sick and tired of politicians putting personal wealth above the people. Does 11% approval rating right a bell?

The Democrats need to act vigilantly on this. If there is any question of wrong doing, then Rockefeller needs to be stripped from all of his committees pending an outcome of an investigation. No excuses can be acceptable on this poor behavior.

John Boehner Thinks Jack Murtha Is A Phoney Soldier

Posted 10/23/07 at 12:54pm by jamie

Seriously. This from a man who never once saw combat. He didn't come right out and say it, but this email response shows that he fully supports Rush's comments:

Dear Jamie :

Thank you for contacting me in regard to Rush Limbaugh's recent statements. It is good to hear from you.

Limbaugh's "phony soldiers" statement was spawned by a recent incident in which Jesse Macbeth, a civilian anti-war protester, made false claims of being an Army Ranger and veteran of the Iraq War. He joined Iraq Veterans Against the War in January, 2006, and even publicly represented the group at various events throughout the country. On September 21, 2007, he admitted in federal court that he had faked his war record. When Limbaugh responded to a caller about war protesters, it is evident that h e used the term "phony soldiers " while alluding to the recent situation regarding Jesse Macbeth.

Since this incident, Rep. John Hall and Rep. Mark Udall, both House D emocrats, have introduced resolutions condemning Rush Limbaugh's remarks. These resolutions have undoubtedly been drafted as a form of appeasement to an extreme liberal left, and I find it disheartening that they would take his comments out of context to play partisan politics when our country clearly has more important issues in need of attention. If at any time either of these resolutions reach the floor of the House of Representatives, I will welcome the opportunity to join with my colleagues in ensuring its defeat.

Cheney Beats His Chest Screaming For War

Posted 10/22/07 at 9:17am by jamie

Dick Cheney should be considered the biggest threat to American security - period. The man wants nothing but war, and won't stop until he gets another one:

The United States and other nations will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday.

"Our country, and the entire international community, cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its grandest ambitions," Cheney said in a speech to the Washington Institute
for Near East Studies.

He said Iran's efforts to pursue technology that would allow it to build a nuclear weapon are obvious and that "the regime continues to practice delay and deceit in an obvious effort to buy time."

If Iran continues on its current course, Cheney said the U.S. and other nations are prepared to take action. The vice president made no specific reference to military action.

I really think his pace-maker is malfunctioning and shocking his brain instead.

Then we had Giuliani saying war with Iran wouldn't be that bad at the debate last night. Not that bad? Yeah I guess Iraq wasn't that bad either. I mean the dead soldiers are only a "small price to pay" according to John Boehner. I guess Giuliani is planning on it taking only a couple of months and I bet the oil will pay for it! Hey - why didn't they sell the Iraq war like that? Oh wait....

Like I have been saying, the Democrats need to simply say "If you want World War 3 then vote Republican". They do get their rocks off on war, look at how easily they beat the drums. Pretty bad for a bunch of pussies who don't have the guts to fight in a war.

Pete Stark's Comments

Posted 10/19/07 at 4:01pm by jamie

A lot of attention has been given to Rep. Pete Stark's comments on the House floor yesterday. I decided to put the video in here for all to see.

Now the question is - Should Pete Stark apologize? You can probably guess how I feel, but I want my readers pulse on this also.

As The Party Crumbles

Posted 10/19/07 at 3:57pm by jamie

Time for the RNC to find a new head:

Mel Martinez, the public face of the Republican National Committee as its general chairman, announced he was stepping down from his post on Friday after serving only 10 months.

"I believe that our future as a party and nation is bright and I have every intention of continuing to fight for our president, our party and our candidates," the Florida senator said in a statement.

His departure was abrupt and his job will not be filled. Martinez wasn't expected to step down until a Republican presidential nominee was selected. The earliest that could occur is February.

Martinez said he was relinquishing the job to spend more time focusing on his constituents and because the RNC had achieved the objective he set when he assumed the job in January.

What objective? Maybe that objective was to shun Latinos and African Americans. Yeah - mission accomplished there.

Or perhaps it was to totally obstruct the Senate. Yup - another big plus on their score card. The American people really like that too </sarcasm>

So who can we find to replace Martinez? I know! Karl Rove. Put turd blossom in charge of the shitty party.

House Fails To Override SCHIP Veto - UPDATED

Posted 10/18/07 at 1:18pm by jamie

Final vote was 273-156. The sick Republicans were cheering when the override failed. Glad to see they find illness and death involving children as something to cheer for.

44 Republicans voted with Democrats and two Democrats crossed over. The most upsetting part of this is it shows that the "House of Representatives" doesn't represent the people. Instead a majority of the minority party choose to Represent the worst President in American history. They do not deserve to be re-elected.

UPDATE:

Steve Benen makes a great point here:

Here’s the key number to keep in mind: last month 45 House Republicans voted for his bill. Today, that number dropped to 44.

In other words, after weeks of media scrutiny, public debate, constituent phone calls, right-wing smears of innocent families, and intense lobbying, the Republican Party ended up going backwards on providing healthcare for low-income kids.

I wonder how long until the wingnuts attack this person that changed sides?

Senate Leaders Reach Immunity Deal On FISA

Posted 10/18/07 at 8:53am by jamie

Glenn Greenwald has all the disguising details. I think most important is this part:

Let's just describe very factually and dispassionately what has happened here. Congress -- led by Senators, such as Jay Rockefeller, who have received huge payments from the telecom industry, and by privatized intelligence pioneer Mike McConnell, former Chairman of the secretive intelligence industry association that has been demanding telecom amnesty -- is going to intervene directly in the pending lawsuits against AT&T and other telecoms and declare them the winners on the ground that they did nothing wrong. Because of their vast ties to the telecoms, neither Rockefeller nor McConnell could ever appropriately serve as an actual judge in those lawsuits.

The telecom companies have been losing their court battles over this, so the Senate is willing to hamper our judicial system by intervening. Is Rockefeller going forward with this to protect his checkbook? If that is the case then his ass needs rode out of Senate faster than Duke Cunningham and Tom Delay.

If this country wants any hope of surviving then it is time for our elected leaders to listen to the people and not the corporations. It is sad to watch these Republicans and Democrats destroy what was once the greatest country this planet has seen.

Talk About Being In The Minority

Posted 10/17/07 at 10:49pm by jamie

For years right wingers would taunt out the fact that Democrats were in the minority. That minority was very slim though. Both times Bush won the White House, it was so damn close.

So these same wingnuts who so boldly reminded us of our minority status over the past several years now find themselves in the minority. This isn't by a few percentage points either.

Let me explain:

Eight in 10 Americans favor expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or S-CHIP, including large majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

While the president has raised concerns about the additional cost of expanding S-CHIP, those who favor the proposal say they'd even be willing to pay more in taxes to help the program cover more children.

More generally, the poll finds that only about one in five Americans (22 percent) approve of the president’s handling of health care. That's lower even than his approval rating on Iraq (26 percent).

Ideologues like Michelle Malkin are thumping their chests over the S-CHIP fiasco going on. They have attacked children and basically advocated for abortion because a parent doesn't have insurance (right to life unless it costs money!). That is how pathetic they have become, and now they are in the super-minority. 22% of this country approves of Bush's veto. That sounds about like the FOX audience.

The problem is how these wingnuts approached the whole argument. They told lies to smear a 12 year old who suffered severely from an accident. For example - Malkin has constantly talked about insurance plans for a couple of hundred dollars. Wow! What a deal! Well she does fail to mention the fact that insurance companies will reject pre-existing conditions, such as these children suffer.

This Was Priceless

Bush during his press conference, talking about Russia's diplomatic reform; "I emphasis to them that checks and balances are important".

Why yes they are Mr. Bush!

Mr. Putin - to learn about these checks and balances, just watch George Bush. Whatever he does - do the opposite. Also wipe "executive privilege" from your vocabulary.
