Oil Passes $143 And Asia Reporting More Inflation

Posted 6/30/08 at 8:40am by jamie

We all know how dim of news the oil prices are, but what does Asia's new inflation problem have to do with us? Think out sourcing. If inflation is high in Asia then the American companies that decided to ship their manufacturing overseas now have to pay more, not only in transportation from shipping costs, but now for the cost of doing business in Asia.

This global economy is coming back to really bite us in the ass, and it's the people of this country that are paying. I don't really see how it can easily be remedied either.

Crazy Weather

Posted 6/29/08 at 8:26am by jamie

The weather has been crazy this year, that is certain. With all the massive flooding in the Midwest, another weather problem seems to be - droughts in the South:

Officials in the Oklahoma Panhandle are appealing for government aid to help with the effects of a drought that has harmed crops and livestock forage.

"This area is starting to look like the Sahara Desert," said Ann Boyd, a 76-year-old rancher in Cimarron County, at the western edge of the Panhandle. "There's just nothing here. Even the weeds are dying. The buffalo grass isn't coming up. There's nothing."

The area is now declared to be drier than during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.

All of this is going to lead to even higher prices at the grocery store. Add to that the rising fuel prices and things are going to get really bad.

Riddle Me This

Posted 6/27/08 at 9:13am by jamie

Right after Obama became the nominee, the polls had Obama ahead of McCain by only a couple of points. The media used that to ask why Obama wasn't winning by more. Their argument was that people wanted change and the polls aren't showing that with Obama.

Fast forward a couple of weeks.

Obama is now leading in polls by huge amounts. Now the media is asking if it's too good to be true for Obama.

So two weeks ago it was a problem that Obama was stomping McCain, now it is a problem that Obama is stomping McCain. Wow the media is great at inventing news!
