McCain Is NOT The Same As Bush

Posted 8/31/08 at 12:48pm by jamie

He is worse! George Bush just said in a news conference he will not be going down to the Gulf until after the storm. He doesn't want his trip to impede any of the massive operations underway. Does John McCain follow that same track of rational thinking? Hell no:

Mr. McCain plans to go to Jackson, Miss., which is inland, with his wife, Cindy, and his newly-selected running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, his campaign said. Mr. McCain will take only a small pool of reporters, and will tour a hurricane center with Gov. Haley Barbour, the Mississippi governor.

As compared to the Obama response, which is people before politics:

Senator Barack Obama said that he had talked to the Louisiana governor and other officials. He added that he was monitoring the storm, but was planning no tour of the coast because he wanted to stay out of the way.

So John McCain is not the same as Bush. Bush at least has shown some common sense in the response to this mother of all storms. John McCain has seen a photo-op.

Palin Gets Booed

Posted 8/31/08 at 9:12am by jamie

This is the absolute proof that McCain picked Sarah Palin for only one reason - to get Hillary supporters.

This might not be the best way to reach out to those disillusioned Hillary Clinton supporters.

In just her second appearance on the campaign trail with John McCain, newly-minted GOP running mate Sarah Palin was showered with boos on Saturday for attempting to praise Clinton’s trail-blazing bid to become the first female president.

I guess Sarah Palin prescribes to the same sexist mentality as John McCain - women will vote not on the issues, but on the sex of the candidate. I sure hope they keep this up. It will be very easy to expose the sexist nature of their campaign and the best one to do that is Hillary.

Disaster Interruptus?

Posted 8/31/08 at 8:24am by jamie

John McCain is floating the idea of giving his speech from the "disaster zone" Gustav leaves. My God - the storm hasn't even brought it's fury and McCain is looking into ways to politicize it. And what the hell happened to the excuse after Katrina that Bush going down there would only hinder response? So putting a huge media spectacle down there that ISN'T related to the disaster somehow helps?

John McCain has no idea how to govern, or make sound decisions. Even considering an idea such as this proves that. He cares less about the American people than George Bush. McCain is not more of the same - he is much worse.

Oh The Irony

John McCain is talking about skipping the GOP convention or having it postponed due to Gustav. Here is what he said:

McCain told Chris Wallace of “Fox News Sunday” in an interview taped for broadcast Sunday that the convention could be rescheduled. “It just wouldn't be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near-tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster,” McCain said. “So we're monitoring it from day to day and I'm saying a few prayers, too.”

(emphasis added)

No we wouldn't want festive activities happening while a hurricane was beating down part of our country. Would we?

Well to be fair, when McCain was eating cake with Bush while people were dying in New Orleans from Katrina, he was only a young 69 years old. I'm sure he has gained much more experience in these past three years.

Palin A Bust

Posted 8/30/08 at 5:35pm by jamie

The first two national polls out show Palin to be a bust. It looks like the pick actually hurt McCain with women voters. I guess John is finding out the hardway that women actually listen to the issues and base decisions upon that, instead of basing their electoral decision upon gender. What do you expect from a 72 year old sexist?

Throw Vetting Out The Window

Posted 8/30/08 at 10:49am by jamie

Did McCain vet Palin? It's becoming more obvious that they didn't:

A very reliable source overheard Republican spokesperson McHugh Pierre state TODAY that he had spoken to the McCain Campaign. They are coming to Alaska tomorrow to check out the "Troopergate" investigation.

In other words, THEY DID NOT DO SO PROPERLY AHEAD OF TIME.

In other words - McCain picked her because she is a woman. Will the media challenge sexist McCain on this?

Hillary Supporters Insult Hillary

Posted 8/30/08 at 10:14am by jamie

This is a post that just amazes me, and not in the good way:

This solidifies my decision to vote McCain.

And it is not just because there is a woman on his ticket. It is because John McCain selected a woman. He put his presidency on the line, he put his faith in a woman. He considers a woman a worthy running mate. And he showed respect for those 18 million Hillary supporters, and he showed that he listened to the women in America, and that he values what we have to say.

This was written by someone called "American Girl In Italy" over at Larry Johnson's blog. This person is basically saying that Hillary's experience amounts to that of being a mayor of a very small town and being governor for less than two years. Sarah Palin also represents that polar opposite of everything that Hillary Clinton has worked for all her life.

So why do the people over at No Quarter belittle Hillary and her supporters so much? They basis the qualification for someone to be President or vice-President on rather they have a vagina or not. This is the most sexist thing I have ever read. It just proves that Larry Johnson is still a Republican.

Does McCain Know Sarah?

Posted 8/30/08 at 10:01am by jamie

John McCain has been very vocal on reducing taxes for big oil. I wonder how this plays into it:

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Green, who has feuded with Palin, brought up the big oil tax increase Palin pushed through last year. She also pointed to the award of a $500 million state subsidy to a Canadian firm to pursue a natural gas pipeline that's far from guaranteed.

Obama talks about raising taxes on big oil and gets blasted by Republicans. Palin did raise taxes on big oil and the Republicans call her a reformer. So does McCain really know the person he has chosen? It doesn't sound like it.

Does Sarah Practice Good Judgement?

I have been looking into a story that I first heard on Countdown last night. It seems that the birth of Palin's son this year was met with a little drama.

Palin was speaking at the Republican Governors Association in April. A couple of hours before her speech she started having labor pains, I have also read mixed reports. Some say her water broke and others say she was just "leaking amniotic fluid". Palin says she called her doctor, who told her to go ahead with the speech then fly back to Alaska.

A typical flight from Dallas to Anchorage is between 5-6 hours. Palin also wasn't full term yet. I haven't been able to find out how early she was, but she knew she was having a baby with Downs Syndrome through testing.

So you have a person who is showing signs of labor and not full term yet. She goes into labor and they tell her to go about her business, which includes a lengthy flight. It really seems like Palin put herself and her baby at risk.

Most airlines have strict rules regarding flying while pregnant. I did find one article stating she flew on Alaska Airlines, which doesn't list any restrictions. The part that I find really odd is that either her fluid broke or she was leaking. Once that happens there is a risk of infection to the baby. That risk increases greatly over time, so they want to get the mother on antibiotics right away. Shouldn't Palin have at least gone to a hospital in Dallas to get checked out?

Even Bill Frist had a video camera feed when he made a diagnosis from afar. Palin's doctor only did it over the phone. Maybe the media should look a little more into this story and find out exactly what happened.
