$1 A Year

dollar bill, front and back Ford’s CEO agrees to a paycut:

Ford Motor became the first of the three U.S. automakers to unveil its turnaround plans to Congress Tuesday, but the plan contained little in the way of new cost cuts or other changes beyond what the company had previously announced.

The company announced that the salary of Ford CEO Alan Mulally would be cut to $1 a year if Ford (F, Fortune 500) actually borrowed money from the government. When Mulally appeared before the House Financial Services Committee last month, he said he would not agree to a paycut.

Ford also announced that it would sell its five corporate jets. Mulally and the CEOs of General Motors (GM</a>, Fortune 500) and Chrysler LLC received great criticism for each flying their own corporate jets to Washington to ask for help last month.

Gregory Will Host MTP

David-Gregry-Asks-The-Tough Not big shock here:

David Gregory will take the reins as moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press," the Huffington Post has learned. Gregory has been a leading contender for the permanent spot since Tom Brokaw stepped in as interim moderator following Tim Russert's death in June.

In recent weeks, a short list including Gregory, Andrea Michell, Gwen Ifill, and Chuck Todd had been considered the top candidates for the position, while Katie Couric and Ted Koppel were viewed as dark horses.

I actually predicted this back in October. I’m not that thrilled with this pick, especially after seeing Gwen Ifill’s name on the list. Is it too soon to break the white guy monopoly on the Sunday morning talk shows? Even if they wanted to keep the white guy club going, how about someone like John Harwood? He’s smart and seems really center on the issues.

Military Nation

Formation Hopefully Obama will take a look at this once he takes office:

The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.

The long-planned shift in the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts, defense analysts said.

There are critics of the change, in the military and among civil liberties groups and libertarians who express concern that the new homeland emphasis threatens to strain the military and possibly undermine the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.

But the Bush administration and some in Congress have pushed for a heightened homeland military role since the middle of this decade, saying the greatest domestic threat is terrorists exploiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

“War Level”

WagahBorder_f_feat India has raised their national security level to “war level” following last week’s attacks in Mumbai:

The fallout from a three-day rampage that killed nearly 200 people in Mumbai threatened on Sunday to unravel India's improving ties with Pakistan and prompted the resignation of India's security minister.

New Delhi said it was raising security to a "war level" and had no doubt of a Pakistani link to the attacks, which unleashed anger at home over the intelligence failure and the delayed response to the violence that paralyzed India's financial capital.

Officials in Islamabad have warned any escalation would force it to divert troops to the Indian border and away from a U.S.-led anti-militant campaign on the Afghan frontier.

India and Pakistan at war again. That’s real comforting in the world today, especially when we are talking about two nuclear nations. But don’t worry, we have Condi to the rescue:

President George W. Bush on Sunday dispatched Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to New Delhi in support of India following the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 200 people, including six Americans.</p>

Rice and Bush wanted an opportunity "to express the condolences of the American government directly to the Indian government and the Indian people," Rice spokesman Sean McCormack said.

Another Catholic Priest Crosses The Line

church and state You know, these guys should watch it. Obama is soon to be running the country, along with his own party. He might decide to suddenly enforce the law and that could mean churches violating their separation from stat could suddenly end up owing a bunch in taxes. Here’s the latest:

Parishioners of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Modesto have been told they should consider going to confession if they voted for Barack Obama, because of the president-elect's position condoning abortion.

<p>"If you are one of the 54 percent of Catholics who voted for a pro-abortion candidate, you were clear on his position and you knew the gravity of the question, I urge you to go to confession before receiving communion. Don't risk losing your state of grace by receiving sacrilegiously," the Rev. Joseph Illo, pastor of St. Joseph's, wrote in a letter dated Nov. 21.

54% of Catholics voted for Obama. This so called “person of God” is telling a majority of Catholics that they have sinned. That’s pretty ballsy. I wonder if Jesus would have voted for Obama, or if he would rather vote for the party that endorses things like torture and taxing the poor more so the rich can thrive? Perhaps this priest should look at confessing himself.
