Another Republicon

Posted 4/30/09 at 7:00pm by jamie

From the local files of corrupt Republicans:

Joseph Ruscigno, former Butler County Republican Party finance chairman and husband of failed county commission candidate Rawnica Dillingham, pleaded guilty this week to a federal tax obstruction charge.

In federal court Wednesday, Ruscigno admitted trying to cheat the Internal Revenue Service out of back taxes owed by Fitch Reporting, Inc. - the West Chester-based court reporting business he owned with his ex-wife, Jane Fitch.

Ruscigno, along with another person, had agreed to pay the IRS $1,500 per week. But shortly after the deal was made in June 2007, he tried to drop the payments by submitting a false profit-and-loss statement for the company.

You may recognize his wife’s name as I have mentioned her before. Rawnica is currently in a legal battle for violating the city ordinance banning adult entertainment. Her and Joe own a local bar that got raided during an exotic show back in February. This is the kind of Republican values we just love to hear about!

Oh and let me also mention that they are both from the same local GOP party as John Boehner. Just had to throw that one in there.

Willy Cunningham Keeping It Classy

Posted 4/30/09 at 12:05pm by jamie

That’s Cincinnati’s beloved Willy Cunningham offering his opinion of President Obama:

What we have here is this little boy who grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the age of 6 to 10, rejected by his own father, rejected by his own mother, rejected by his stepfather, raised by his grandparents"

He has always been such a classy person. NOT! Cincinnati will be a much better place when he is finally off the air.

“When The President Does It, That Means It Is Not Illegal”

Posted 4/30/09 at 9:19am by jamie

Condi rice decided to pull out a tricky Dick line when talking about torture:

So if the President is above the law, then will Bill Clinton get his law license back?

What if President Obama decides to lock up all members of the previous administratoin without a trial? I guess that would be legal also.

Maybe President Obama should declare the Republican Party a terrorist organization and lock up everyone who identifies as a Republican. That would be legal under Condi’s thinking.

The fact is the President is not above the law, and for people like Condi. who was only five heart beats away from the oval office,  to sit out there and make such egregious claims is an insult to our nation and what our founding fathers fought for.

Way To Stay Classy GOP

Hamilton County, Ohio GOP has redefined class. The people that help bring us gems like Jean Schmidt decided to use a picture of a bald Arlen Specter to compare him to Dr. Evil. The picture of Specter was taken at a time when he was fighting brain cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. Here’s a screen shot:

Bachmann’s Latest Insult Back Fires

Posted 4/29/09 at 11:09am by jamie

The dipshit of Minnesota is back in the news. Here’s the one and only Michele Bachmann:

BACHMANN: I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under Democrat President Jimmy Carter. And I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it is an interesting coincidence.

But as Think Progress points out, that outbreak in the 70’s happened in February of 1976, when Republican Gerald Ford was President.

Bachmann is trying to turn this possible pandemic into a political game with totally wrong facts. That’s what happens when she tries to play with the big kids.

How Low Do They Want To Go?

Posted 4/29/09 at 9:34am by jamie

Well, Specter, take [Sen. John] McCain with you. And his daughter [Meghan]. Take McCain and his daughter with you if you're gonna…

Republican Leader Rush Limbaugh on news of Specter switching parties. That’s a pretty bad statement, but even worse is his rationale for it:

…..It's ultimately good. You're weeding out people who aren't really Republicans

Only 21% of the people in this country identify themselves as Republican now. How low does boss Limbaugh want to go? 14%? 7%?

I also wonder how long it will take before the Democrats stop gloating and realize that this is actually bad for our country and take action to fix this problem? It might sound odd that Democrats would be worried about the demise of their opponent in our political fabric, but having two strong parties is necessary to ensure our system of checks and balances. So if it gets to the point that Democrats have a 65 or 70 seat majority in the Senate, will Democrats take action to force a restructuring of the Republican Party, or leveling the playing field to help bring in other parties like the Libertarian movement? Our country does depend on it.

Quote Of The Day

Posted 4/29/09 at 8:23am by jamie

I been reading through a lot of reactions to Arlen Specter’s party switch yesterday, and one quote stuck out at me:

The Republican Party was founded as a party of individual rights and individual initiative. It led the fight to end slavery, give women the right to vote, expand national parks and break up corporate monopolies. Today the party is more movement-oriented: pro-life, pro-gun, pro-tax cut and anti-U.N., with recent pandering in Texas and Alaska to irrational secessionist anger. Arlen Specter didn't fit.

(emphasis added)

That’s from former congressman Jim Leach (R-IA). Leach made headlines last year when he endorsed Barack Obama for President – a rather strong endorsement considering Leach’s foreign policy expertise. This statement goes beyond that cross over we saw last year.

The right is already trying to spin comments like this as hogwash, but Leach is a moderate Republican and echoing what many moderate Republicans are saying. The party has been taken over by the extreme right wing, and that isn’t going to end up good for the Republicans.

Boehner To Get A Primary Challenge?

Posted 4/28/09 at 8:51pm by jamie

09_sheriff It looks like that could be the case:

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones has taken the first step to challenge U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner in next year’s GOP primary.

Jones pulled a petition at the Butler County Board of Elections Tuesday, April 28, to take on the West Chester Twp. Republican in the May 4, 2010, primary for the U.S. 8th Congressional District.

He now has until Feb. 19, 2010, to collect 50 signatures and pay a $85 filing fee.

Jones made it clear Tuesday night that all he did was pick up a petition, he is not at this point a candidate for the congressional seat.

Rick Jones is pretty popular around here, so if he decides to run it could end up being a pretty major challenge to Boehner. I don’t care for either one politically, but I think Jones would be a big improvement over do-nothing John.
