Will The MSM Still Consider Drudge A Serious News Portal?

Posted 5/31/09 at 4:57pm by jamie

All the news, both online and off, are a buzz about the shooting death of George Tiller, a Kansas abortion doctor. Well that is all except Matt Drudge:

To Matt Drudge the big story is still about Susan Boyle losing in some reality show last night. How much longer will the media continue to hype the Drudge Report as some sort of major news portal? I guarantee if this was some pro-choicer killing a pro-lifer he would have the flashing beacon up and everything else.

Universal Healthcare Will Save Us Money

Posted 5/29/09 at 12:05pm by jamie

Think about a government run healthcare program for a moment. What if the country said sayonara to the current insurance providers as they are and went with a totally universal program. The savings to taxpayers and businesses would be huge.

Talking about such a massive sized program saving us doesn’t seem very logical, but think about what would happen. We wouldn’t need all these big insurance providers. That means we wouldn’t need all the big executive salaries or perks. The billions spent for other things, such as advertising, would also be nonexistence.

Now I know people are thinking “how do we pay for such a massive government program”, and the answer is simple – taxes. It wouldn’t be that big of an increase per person and business, and people would actually end up saving in the long run from the items I pointed out above.

John Cornyn Death Watch (UPDATE: Audio Added)

Posted 5/29/09 at 10:49am by jamie

Somebody has just publically gone against the leadership of the Republican Party:

A top Senate Republican is taking aim at recent statements from conservative commentators Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich suggesting Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor is a "racist."

"I think it's terrible," Sen. John Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told NPR's "All Things Considered" Thursday. "This is not the kind of tone any of us want to set when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advise and consent.”

Both the popular radio host and former GOP House Speaker have suggested Obama's pick for the high court is a racist while referencing a 2001 speech at Berkeley during which Sotomayor said, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

Now off you go to the woodshed airwaves John to bow down and beg forgiveness from the anointed one, King Rush.

UPDATE:

Here is the audio of  Cornyn’s  political suicide note:

How Bad Are Those Prisoner Abuse Photos?

Posted 5/28/09 at 7:43am by jamie

When President Obama changed his mind and said he wouldn’t release those photos I figured it had to be something really bad.

At least one picture shows an American soldier apparently raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee.

Further photographs are said to depict sexual assaults on prisoners with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube.

Another apparently shows a female prisoner having her clothing forcibly removed to expose her breasts.

Detail of the content emerged from Major General Antonio Taguba, the former army officer who conducted an inquiry into the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq.

Reading this I kept thinking back to 2003 when Bush and his ilk were out there saying “Saddam has these rape and torture rooms”. Well guess what? So do we..

As we continue to learn more about Gitmo and Abu Gharib its becoming harder to believe that Abu Gharib was just a few soldiers acting on their own ambitions. We already know that what we saw happening in the original Abu Gharib manuals pretty much mimic what the EIT memos were saying. That means someone either gave orders/guidance or we have just seen the king of all coincidences.

No matter what cause Abu Gharib to occur, one thing is for certain. We now need a full blown inquiry. It mustn’t be limited to one facility, but to the military and intelligence community as a whole. This is the kind of investigation that only Congress along with a army of prosecutors can delve into. Hopefully this latest report will put us closer to that reality, and that reality is that this happened at the hands of the U.S.:

When You Have Nothing

Posted 5/27/09 at 8:22am by jamie

Conservatives are out with their talking points on Sonia Sotomayor and they are priceless. I guess they couldn’t find anything to go after her on, so they decided they would question her intellect.

So they want to compare Sotomayor to Harriet Miers. How many courts did Miers serve on when Bush nominated her? Oh yeah – none. Sotomayor has been serving for years, was nominated by Clinton and papa Bush and been confirmed by the Senate twice.

This is like comparing a doctor to a first aid person. Or how about comparing the fry cook at McDonalds to Emerald Lagossi? That is how ridiculous this neo-con attack it.

Arianna He Is Not

Tucker Carlson wants to be the next Huffington Post:

Carlson will launch TheDailyCaller.com, which he said would focus on reporting on the Obama administration and "adding facts to the conversation."

"We are a general-interest newspaper-format style site," Carlson told conservative bloggers at the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday. "There just aren't enough people covering this administration and telling the people what's going on."

Carlson, a former conservative and libertarian pundit (most notably on CNN), touted his site as a home for basic reporting.

Should we start penning the obituary yet?

Powell Crushes Limbaugh And Cheney In Poll

Posted 5/26/09 at 8:19am by jamie

From CNN:

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, released Monday, suggests that 70 percent have a favorable opinion of Powell, who was Secretary of State during President George W. Bush's first term, and who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Persian Gulf War.

Only 30 percent of those polled have a favorable view of Limbaugh, the popular conservative radio talk show host, with 53 percent saying they hold an unfavorable opinion.

In poll numbers released Thursday, 37 percent say they have a favorable opinion of Dick Cheney, with 55 percent indicating they hold an unfavorable view of the former vice president.

So Powell’s approval rating is higher than Cheney and Limbaugh’s combined. This should serve as a sign to the GOP – drop Cheney and Limbaugh and embrace Powell. Powell is the kind of person who would help bring people into the GOP fold, unlike the divisive Cheney Limbaugh show. That’s what the GOP needs to become a party of relevance again.

Of course none of that will happen though. The GOP is ran by a pack of cowards. If one of them says anything that can be construed as negative against the Rushssiah then they must flock to his airwaves, kneel down and kiss his royal fat ass.

That brings us to what should be a new DNC tag line:

If the Republicans can’t stand up to Rush Limbaugh, how can we trust them to stand up to nations and terrorists?

Yup – that would be a crushing message.
