Get ready for the news to change over to nonstop Supreme Court coverage. MSNBC is reporting that President Obama will be announcing his pick at 10:15 am today.
Watching Meet the Press I can’t help but think that these news organizations go out and hire the biggest flunkies from basic government classes. It’s that or they think that their viewers are total idiots.
Let me explain. They are talking about Nancy Pelosi’s approval rating dropping, so that means she might not be reelected. All the polls have been on a national sample. Those don’t matter. What does her constituents think of her? That’s who reelects her – not the nation.
For proof of this let’s look at John Boehner. Going into last November’s election Boehner’s approval was around 15%. However, Boehner won his district by over 60%. Wow he was really sunk – wasn’t he?
So will the talking heads start acting like they know what they are talking about. This is stuff people learn by the third grade. If you can’t comprehend something taught to young children then its no wonder the news industry is in shambles.
Following Mancow’s waterboarding experience yesterday Keith Olbermann has now rescinded his challenge to Hannity and instead will donate $10,000 to military families in the name of Mancow.
It would be nice for people to remind Hannity of what a coward he was in this whole thing.
Nothing like seeing a right wing apologist have his eyes opened, through a near drowning experience, to the real effects of waterboarding.
When will Sean Hannity give it a try?
When Arlen Specter switched parties last month the chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Party came under fire for posting a picture of a bald Specter and comparing him to Dr. Evil. Well the latest antics of Alex Triantafilou aren’t as derogatory, but could rather be chalked up as just idiotic ramblings:
Is the winner of American Idol a Republican? I watched about 60 minutes of that show all year, but it seems he was certainly the more conservative of the two finalists. The other finalist was very good and maybe more talented, but America voted for the more traditional person. On talent alone, I probably would've voted for the 2nd place finisher. Adam Lambert was very good. But, the winner, Kris Allen, was certainly more traditional and conservative in his approach.
Well he watched about 60 minutes more of American Idol than I did and I could careless if the winner was a Republican or Democrat. It just amazes me that this guy would even spend time on something like this. No wonder the Republican Party is in so much trouble.
Either Mika Brzezinski is trying to spin right wing talking points or she is just downright stupid. Check out this exchanged from Morning Joe where Ed Schultz had to take on the entire cast. Pay particular attention around the 4:20 mark:
While Schultz is talking about the terror plot broken up by law enforcement yesterday he points out that no one had to be torture and that this was the product of good old police work. Mika responds with “well there was an informant”.
Could she really be that dense? Is being an informant somehow synonymous with waterboarding?
Police have used informants for years. All are voluntary. Some might do it as a feeling of “civic duty” and other’s might offer the information as a way to reduce their own punishment, but it is voluntary.
Mika tries to call herself a “liberal”, but she sure doesn’t show it, and if she is a liberal then she makes all liberals look bad.
This is a very interesting develop. Greg Sargent has been trying to get a clarification from Porter Goss if the CIA told him about the use of torture during that meeting with them and Nancy Pelosi, or if he wasn’t. Well Goss isn’t saying anything:
So I asked Goss’ spokesperson directly: Were he and Pelosi informed that EITs, including waterboarding, had already been used, and were they given a rough sense that Abu Zubaydah had been waterboarded more than 83 times the previous month?
Her answer: “He believes that his Op-ed makes it very clear and is not engaging beyond it at this time.” She declined repeated requests to elaborate.
So here’s where we are: The Republican Congressman who was in the room during Pelosi’s briefing won’t directly vouch for the accuracy of the CIA’s claim that she had been briefed on the use of torture.
And it isn’t that Goss was just the congressman in the room with Pelosi during this briefing – its also the fact that Goss went on to head the CIA not long after this.
So we have a Republican who could be the final nail in the Pelosi coffin, but he isn’t swinging that hammer. Why is that? My only guess is that Goss doesn’t recall exactly what was said (highly unlikely), or he knows Pelosi is telling the truth so he is choosing to just be quiet and let it all play out.
If there was ever a call for a “truth commission” this is it. If the CIA didn’t inform Goss and Pelosi and then lied about it then there are serious crimes being committed. It’s time to find the truth out so this country can move on. The longer we delay that longer our focuses will remain on who was told what and when.
Shorter Scarborough just now:
If you took a poll you would find everyone agrees with Cheney on nation security instead of Obama.
Then shorter Mika:
Yes master Joe – you are correct as always.
It really tells you how bad Scarborough’s views are when MSNBC has to pay someone to just agree with him on everything so he looks good. Glenn Beck doesn’t even need that.
One of the biggest problems with society today is the actions of those charged with protecting us. More and more we hear about police abusing their power, and when it happens the punishment never seems to fit the crime.
Five Birmingham police officers have been fired for a January 2008 beating of an already-unconscious suspect with fists, feet and a billy club, a battering caught on videotape until a police officer turned off the patrol car camera, city and police officials said today.
Authorities believe the video, [see the full chase here] taken after a high-speed chase by several area law enforcement agencies ended when the fleeing suspect's van flipped, has been seen by numerous Birmingham officers and up to a half dozen supervisors over the past year. But top city and police officials weren't made aware of the taped beating until they were contacted by the district attorney's office two months ago.
Here is the video the prompted the action:
And the result:
