Chase Gets Man Thrown In Jail Because Of An Incompetent Teller

Posted 7/8/11 at 10:46am by jamie

This story has to be one of the most disturbing things I have read in a long time:

Ikenna, a 28-year old construction worker, went to deposit a $8,463.21 Chase cashier's check at his local Chase branch, only for the teller to decide that neither he nor his check looked right and he got tossed in jail for forgery, KING5 reports. The next day, a Friday the bank realized its mistake and left a message with the detective. But it was her day off, so he spent the entire weekend in jail.

By the time he got out, he had been fired from his job for not showing up to work. His car had been towed as well. It ended up getting sold off at auction because he couldn't afford to get it out of the pound. He had been relying on that cashier's check for his money but it was taken as evidence and by the time he got it back it was auctioned off.

All this while the cashier's check had been issued by the very bank he was trying to cash it at.

Only after this story went public and an attorney wrote a scathing letter to Chase, did they decide it was time to apologize. This is another example of the corporations ruling the over citizens and it goes against everything that America was founded on. Hopefully this victim can file a lawsuit against Chase and recover some of what he loss.

Again - Watch Out For Her

A new poll, this time out of New Hampshire:

When PPP polled New Hampshire in April Michele Bachmann was stuck at 4%. She's gained 14 points over the last three months and now finds herself within single digits of Mitt Romney. Romney continues to lead the way in the state with 25% to 18% for Bachmann, 11% for Sarah Palin, 9% for Ron Paul, 7% for Rick Perry and Herman Cain, 6% for Jon Huntsman and Tim Pawlenty, and 4% for Newt Gingrich.

Ironically I still see a lot of people on the left, laughing off Bachmann as some sort of joke. I really hope they stop it soon.

Deep Thought

If the people of this country paid as much attention to the bankers who destroyed this economy or the health insurance companies that drop coverage on people that need it the most, leaving them for dead (children included!) as they did the Casey Anthony trial, maybe we could start fixing things.

How The Tea Party Got Duped

Posted 7/5/11 at 2:46pm by jamie

Today's New York Times:

Just when freshman House Republicans have finally learned their way to the Cannon Caucus Room, how to vote on a motion to proceed and which commissary serves the best tuna sandwiches, someone back home — worse, someone from their own party — wants to take it all away.

“I am taking a serious look,” said Weston Wamp, who is pondering a primary challenge to Representative Chuck Fleischmann, in his first term from Tennessee. Mr. Wamp said he was inspired by his father, Zach, who served in the House for many years. “My experience through my dad was seeing the very best of what public service can mean.”

It is miles to go before the 2012 Congressional races begin in earnest, but already some of the 87 freshmen who helped the Republicans win back the House last year are bracing for a challenge from within the party. At least half a dozen potential primary challengers to freshmen are considering a run, and there is heated chatter about more.

So what kind of freshmen could they be talking about? Well how about Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA). Kelly was endorsed by the Tea Party and even coined a "real Tea Party candidate". But look at what Mike Kelly thinks of corporate welfare:

MODERATOR: This question is from Joshua from Erie. How can you justify continuing subsidies for oil companies with record profits while cutting vital services for working families? Oil companies don’t need subsidies and working families shouldn’t have to pay for them with…

Murdoch Loves And Hates Hacking

Posted 7/5/11 at 9:00am by jamie

Over the weekend someone hacked a Fox News twitter feed and made some malicious posts:

A series of alarming Twitter posts about President Obama appeared on Fox News’s Twitter account for political news early Monday morning, and the Web site for the cable television network said it was a victim of hacking.

The Twitter account, @foxnewspolitics, one of many operated by Fox News, claimed that the president had been fatally shot while campaigning in Iowa, but gave no source for the news. On Monday morning, FoxNews.com first posted a brief statement saying that the reports were incorrect, and that it regretted “any distress the false Tweets may have created.”

First off, this is an absolutely horrible joke. I don't care who is in the White House, making false claims that the President of the United States has been assassinated is absolutely horrible and the Secret Service even thinks so, as they have now launched a full investigation.

Fox does seem set on blaming Twitter for the hack:

"We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts," said Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital.

Oil Spill In Yellowstone River

Posted 7/3/11 at 8:53am by jamie

Take that Mother Nature!

Hundreds of barrels of crude oil spilled into Montana's Yellowstone River after an ExxonMobil pipeline beneath the riverbed ruptured, sending a plume 25 miles downstream and forcing temporary evacuations, officials said.

The break near Billings in south-central Montana fouled the riverbank and forced municipalities and irrigation districts Saturday to close intakes.

The river has no dams on its way to its confluence with the Missouri River just across the Montana border in North Dakota. It was unclear how far the plume might travel.

Cleanup crews deployed booms and absorbent material as the plume moved downstream at an estimated 5 to 7 mph.

So how much oil spilled?

ExxonMobil spokeswoman Pam Malek said the pipe leaked an estimated 750 to 1,000 barrels of oil for about a half-hour before it was shut down. Other Exxon officials had estimated up to 42,000 gallons of crude oil escaped.

(side note: I don't know who wrote this article, but one barrel of oil is 42 gallons, so 42,000 gallons would be 1,000 barrels!)

Another environmental disaster in the making and one that could affect some of our most pristine natural treasures.

OMG Bristol Palin Saw A Cockroach!

Posted 7/1/11 at 8:57am by jamie

Poor child!

Former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, is trash talking one Butler County city.

In Bristol Palin's new book called "Not Afraid of Life: My Journey so Far" she talks about her 2008 visit to Middletown, more specifically her stay at the Manchester Inn. Palin talks about her horrible stay at the hotel calling it "raggedy and filled with cockroaches."

"I think it probably hurt some people's feelings and ticked some people off to see someone of their caliber for what that matters, would say something like that," said A.J. Smith, Middletown city council member.

At the center of Bristol Palin's comments is the historic Manchester Inn. The hotel closed down earlier this year but was a fixture in the community for 89-years. Palin stayed at the hotel during her visit.

"We pulled into the parking lot of a redbrick hotel. The raggedy old hotel had dated furniture, small rooms, ugly pink walls and an abundant supply of cockroaches," said Palin in her book.

Apparently Bristol (or her writers) didn't bother to look into what has happened in Middletown. In 2000, Middletown had a poverty level of 12%. In 2007 that number jumped up to 22%, leading Forbes to label it as the tenth fastest dying city in the country.

Middletown is the epitome of what has happened to blue collar communities in this country. We have seen factory jobs head overseas and nothing new coming in. Actually it would have been a great campaign backdrop in 2008, a symbol of what has gone wrong in America and talk about how to fix it. Instead, Bristol decides to trash talk the town.
