Anwar al-Awlaki Killed By Drone Strike

Posted 9/30/11 at 10:01am by jamie

Another big blow to al Qaeda occurred over night:

A missile fired from an American drone aircraft in Yemen on Friday killed Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical American-born cleric who was a leading figure in Al Qaeda’s affiliate there, according to an official in Washington.

Samir Khan was also killed in the attack.

We should all thank George Bush for his leadership in bringing down this terrorist.

(and that last part is your Friday snark!)

UPDATE:

This is a really big news story. Most are saying the kill is almost as significant as the killing of Osama himself. Of course the website so many media people push as being the "biggest player" in internet news aggregation has decided the story isn't all that important:

BREAKING: New Bipartisan Jobs Package Revealed

Posted 9/29/11 at 1:58pm by jamie

Republicans and Democrats have come together to offer a new jobs package in the House. Well should I say “Republican” and “Democrat” in the names of Rep. Lee Terry [R-NE2] and Edolphus Towns [D-NY10]. The two have introduced HR 3035, the “Mobile Informational Call Act of 2011”, which gives this quick summary:

To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to permit informational calls to mobile telephone numbers, and for other purposes.

“Informational calls” is a nice way of saying “robo-calls”. This will certainly increase the hiring of people in these call centers, even though most are over seas.

Currently under federal law these types of calls are illegal to place to cellular phones. This strips that law and makes it fair game now. The bill doesn’t stop there though. It also forbids states from enacting their own laws banning these types of calls.

Of course not everyone thinks this bill is bad [pdf file]. Numerous businesses, including banks and the Chamber of Commerce, have written Reps. Town and Terry to thank them for introducing it.

If you don’t have an unlimited cell plan, I would look at changing or getting rid of it. This bill will open the floodgates to countless unwanted calls just eating away at your minutes. Remember, consumers have no rights or protections in a 21st century America. Both political parties are in power only to serve corporations while screwing over “we the people”.

Giving Thanks To The Country That Made You

E.J. Dionne has a great piece today talking about the Buffett tax plan. Conservatives have been on a constant attack against Warren Buffett over his claims that his tax rate is to low. Of course all the focus has been on Buffet, but there are other’s in Buffett’s tax bracket that feel the same:

Advocates of higher taxes on the wealthy do not want to “punish” the successful. Buffett and Doug Edwards, a millionaire who asked Obama at a recent town hall event in California to raise his taxes, are saying that none of us succeeds solely because of personal effort. We are all lucky to have been born in — or, for immigrants, admitted to — a country where the rule of law is strong, where property is safe, where a vast infrastructure has been built over generations, where our colleges and universities are the envy of the world, and where government protects our liberties.

That is what I have been talking about. The rich got that way because of America, so paying taxes and contributing to help get America moving forward again is the least they can do for the country that made them. The problem is the right wing noise machine. I’ve got many Republican friends who make less than $100,000 a year and yet feel taxes should continue to be cut on the rich. Most of them listen to people like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. Of course these talking heads will rally against raising taxes on the rich. Just look at their 2010 salaries:

It Might Sound Crazy, But Is It?

Bev Perdue, the governor of North Carolina, has an interesting suggestion:

North Carolina's Democratic governor suggested this week that the U.S. suspend congressional elections for two years so the people's representatives won't have to focus on reelection while they work to solve the nation's budget woes.

"You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things," Gov. Bev Perdue (D) told the Cary Rotary Club in North Carolina yesterday. "I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover.

"I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. The one good thing about Raleigh is that for so many years we worked across party lines. It's a little bit more contentious now but it's not impossible to try to do what's right in this state. You want people who don't worry about the next election."

We are 9 months into this session of Congress and already things are coming to a halt because of upcoming elections. Remember last month when John Boehner wouldn’t let President Obama address Congress about his jobs bill because there was one of a million Republican debates on that night? Things like that right there contribute heavily to a broken Congress.

Americans Want A New Government

Posted 9/26/11 at 9:03am by jamie

If you ask Democrats the Republicans controlling the House are the problem. If you ask Republicans the problem lies in Senate and and the White House. None of that should really matter though. The problem is that our government is broken and Americans are fed up with it according to a new Gallup poll that shows a record 82%

This poll could also show that the Republican plan is working. 69% now say they have little or no confidence in the legislative branch. while 57% say they have little or no faith in the government to solve domestic problems. Those statistics fit right into the "small/no government" beliefs of the GOP, but it get's even worse with 49% now believing that the government poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of citizens. Now while I said this was the affect of the GOP plan, I don't mean it's good news for the GOP.

The Republican Dislike For Our Soldiers

Posted 9/23/11 at 9:59am by jamie

At last night’s Republican debate Stephen Hill, a soldier currently serving in Iraq, asked the GOP field what they would do about the US policy for gays in the military, like Hill. Instantly the crowd went to booing this brave soldier. Rick Santorum instantly answered the question by saying he would reinstate DADT.

It’s really amazing when you think about it. Here we got a man, risking his life for a country that wants to exclude him from serving. Then we have a Republican presidential candidate that never once had the courage to out on the uniform and serve saying he shouldn’t be allowed to. I’m also sure many of those booing in the audience never had the courage to serve either. It is really sickening to see how the GOP tries to use soldiers as their political backdrops, but then wants to disqualify so many from serving over something our military leaders says isn’t a problem.

Obama’s LA Campaign Office Vandalized

Posted 9/23/11 at 7:33am by jamie

Sadly I think we are going to see a lot more stories like this:

President Barack Obama's West Los Angeles campaign office was vandalized Thursday night.

It happened around 7:25 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Centinela Avenue.

Witnesses said someone called them after hearing glass breaking at the office. They then noticed something had been thrown through the window. It also appears someone may have fired shots with a BB gun at the building.

With the tensions in this country and the increasing partisan divide, I got a really bad feeling that this story is going to be very minor compared to what will come. We saw a start to it in 2010…remember?

How Can Anyone Survive On Only $400k A Year?

Posted 9/19/11 at 3:01pm by jamie

My heart weeps for this poor fellow:

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) appeared on MSNBC with Chris Jansing this morning to attack President Obama’s new deficit reduction plan, which includes some tax increases on the wealthy. Taking up the typical GOP talking point, Fleming said raising taxes on wealthy “job creators” is a terrible idea that kills jobs because many of these people are small business owners who pay taxes through personal income rates.

Fleming is himself a businesses owner, so Jansing asked, “If you have to pay more in taxes, you would get rid of some of those employees?” Fleming responded by saying that while his businesses made $6.3 million last year, after you “pay 500 employees, you pay rent, you pay equipment, and food,” his profits “a mere fraction of that” — “by the time I feed my family, I have maybe $400,000 left over.

We should tax the middle and lower class more, take away healthcare for poor children, close schools and dismantle government just so this man from the party of the “common man”, the Tea Party can survive.

Welcome to the sick and twisted views of America’s Tea Party. They champion people who complain about living on only $400k a year, yet insult those who only make $20,000 all while saying they believe in Jesus. The Tea Party isn’t a “party” – it’s a god damn mental illness!

Why Is America’s Right Wing Hell Bent On Killing Children?

Posted 9/15/11 at 3:16pm by jamie

Every time Michelle Obama does something to push for our children to be a little healthier the right goes ape shit, instantly associating it with socialism. Here’s Drudge right now:

The article linked by the image reads as follows:

Michelle Obama said Thursday that a pledge by the Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants and its sister chains to serve healthier meals is a "breakthrough moment" for the industry.

Darden Restaurants Inc. is pledging to cut calories and sodium in its meals by 20 percent over a decade. Among promised changes for children, a fruit or vegetable side and low-fat milk will become standard with kids' meals unless a substitution is requested.

No more French fries for the little ones unless an adult asks for them.

"With this new commitment, Darden is doing what no restaurant company has done before," said the first lady, who joined executives of Orlando, Fla.-based Darden for the announcement at an Olive Garden restaurant in Maryland, just outside Washington.

How dare she want our children to be healthier and maybe live longer! Just like that socialist Laura Bush. How dare she want out children to learn, or that socialist Nancy Reagan, who wanted our children to stay off drugs!

This is how ridiculous America’s right-wing is and it gets worst. Just read this one.
