Ruth Marcus Sucks!

Posted 11/30/11 at 3:29pm by jamie

Here's the WaPo's Ruth Marcus yesterday on the Emma Sullivan tweet to Sam Brownback:

Emma Sullivan, you’re lucky you’re not my daughter. (Dangerous sentence, I know: My daughters might agree.)

If you were my daughter, you’d be writing that letter apologizing to Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback for the smartalecky, potty-mouthed tweet you wrote after meeting with him on a school field trip.

Just a reminder, here's what Sullivan said:

Just made mean comments at gov brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot

I wonder what she is referring to as "potty mouth" in there? I mean we live in an age where the vice-President of the country can go into the Senate and tell another Senator to "go fuck yourself" and I don't remember Marcus taking Cheney on for that one.

And I'm wondering if Marcus even bothered to look into this story at all. Sullivan is 18. She is old enough to vote for a President or go fight and die in a war for our country, but Marcus thinks she isn't allowed to say someone sucks? It's amazing that this old crone was ever considered for a Pulitzer.

Ever wonder why the Washington Post is struggling so bad? It's because these are the type of people they give voice to. I'm sorry but Ruth Marcus is the one who sucks.

Now head over to Esquire and read their hilarious take down of the idiot that is Ruth Marcus.

Serious Buyers Remorse Over The Tea Party

Posted 11/30/11 at 9:40am by jamie

The fad that is the Tea Party is starting to show real signs of fading:

Since the 2010 midterm elections, the Tea Party has not only lost support nationwide, but also in the congressional districts represented by members of the House Tea Party Caucus. And this year, the image of the Republican Party has declined even more sharply in these GOP-controlled districts than across the country at large.

Since the 2010 midterm elections, the Tea Party has not only lost support nationwide, but also in the congressional districts represented by members of the House Tea Party Caucus. And this year, the image of the Republican Party has declined even more sharply in these GOP-controlled districts than across the country at large.

And with the sinking of the Tea Party goes the sinking of the Republican Party as this chart shows:

11-28-11 #2

But wait! It gets even worse for them, which means better for the Democrats.

11-28-11 #3

The favorable rating of the Democrats is at least holding steady in the Tea Party districts and is now into positive territory overall.

Hank Paulson Warned Hedge Funds Of Freddie/Fannie Collapse

Posted 11/29/11 at 6:21pm by jamie

Bloomberg is out with another article about the financial collapse. In it they report that former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, who was in charge during the collapse, gave insider information to hedge funders. The following alledgedly took place on July 21, 2008

At the Eton Park meeting, he sent a different message, according to a fund manager who attended. Over sandwiches and pasta salad, he delivered that information to a group of men capable of profiting from any disclosure.

Around the conference room table were a dozen or so hedge- fund managers and other Wall Street executives -- at least five of them alumni of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS), of which Paulson was chief executive officer and chairman from 1999 to 2006. In addition to Eton Park founder Eric Mindich, they included such boldface names as Lone Pine Capital LLC founder Stephen Mandel, Dinakar Singh of TPG-Axon Capital Management LP and Daniel Och of Och-Ziff Capital Management Group LLC.

After a perfunctory discussion of the market turmoil, the fund manager says, the discussion turned to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Paulson said he had erred by not punishing Bear Stearns shareholders more severely. The secretary, then 62, went on to describe a possible scenario for placing Fannie and Freddie into “conservatorship” -- a government seizure designed to allow the firms to continue operations despite heavy losses in the mortgage markets.

Now who was President in 2008? Oh yeah! But again that is fact. Here's what Andrew Breitbart's Big Government is pushing this meme from their editor's new book, Throw Them All Out:

Cincinnati Loses An Icon

Posted 11/29/11 at 5:01pm by jamie

Cincinnati's iconic skyline has been called one of the most beautiful around. One building that helps make up that skyline is the Chiquita Center. Today Chiquita has announced that they are moving their operations from Cincinnati to Charlotte, North Carolina:

Chiquita Brands International, Inc. will relocate its headquarters to Charlotte, N.C., the company announced Tuesday afternoon. The move is expected to be complete by the end of 2012.

A North Carolina economic development panel approved a $22 million incentives deal to bring the global headquarters of banana giant Chiquita Brands International to Charlotte earlier in the day.

Members of the committee said the move of Chiquita's headquarters, along with research and development laboratories, will eventually bring a total of about 417 jobs to the area. The jobs are supposed to pay an average of about $107,000.

Cincinnati, like many other towns in America, is struggling economically. This loss of high paying jobs and revenue will be a serious blow to the area.

But this story comes as no shock. These talks have been going on for sometime. Even Governor John Kasich's office was involved with trying to keep the banana man here, but they failed. I guess working to strip public employees of bargaining rights was much more important that focusing on keeping a key employer in the region?

Still Blaming The Media

Posted 11/29/11 at 3:54pm by jamie

With the big Herman Cain news today comes the right digging in and continuing the media blame game. Here's William Jacobson, who has been painting the media as the bad guy all along:

This will all be used to justify Politico’s original reporting, but nothing could be farther from the truth. The issue never was whether the settlements or allegations of sexual harassment were fair game; I took the position at the very beginning that they were legitimate vetting issues but that the public was entitled to facts as to the allegations, not just Politico’s characterization.

Early on I also suggested that what Politico really was doing was trying to smoke out other accusers, and that in fact was the effect. We’ll never know the truth of what happened, and for most of the accusers we don’t even know their names or what the accusations were, but it worked.

Let's go back to the original story by Politico, which is still online here. Ten days before this story came out, the reporters tried to get Cain to tell his side of the story. Instead he chose to ignore it. Finally Politico did get a response from Cain, well sort of:

Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon told POLITICO the candidate indicated to campaign officials that he was “vaguely familiar” with the charges and that the restaurant association’s general counsel had resolved the matter.

The latest statement came from Cain himself. In a tense sidewalk encounter Sunday morning outside the Washington bureau of CBS News — where the Republican contender had just completed an interview on “Face the Nation” — Cain evaded a series of questions about sexual harassment allegations.

The End Of The Herminator?

Posted 11/29/11 at 12:26pm by jamie

It looks like we may finally be witnessing the death of the Herman Cain for President campaign. Yesterday news came out of a woman claiming she has had a 13 year affair with the Republican hopeful:

An Atlanta businesswoman is breaking her silence, claiming she has been involved in a 13-year-long affair with Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell sat down with Ginger White, who had a story to tell.

“I'm not proud,” White told Russell. “I didn't want to come out with this. I did not.”

White was worried a political tsunami was headed her way. So, she decided to head it off, by confessing she was involved in a 13-year-long affair with presidential hopeful Herman Cain.

A statement released by Cain's attorney really made the matter worse, and I mean much, much worse:

Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Brownback Apologizes To Emma Sullivan

Posted 11/28/11 at 2:44pm by jamie

Wow! What an interesting twist this story just took:

Gov. Sam Brownback apologized Monday for his office's reaction to a Kansas high school senior's disparaging tweet about the Republican during a visit to the Statehouse.

The governor's staff complained about a post by Emma Sullivan, 18, and the student quickly landed in hot water with administrators at Shawnee Mission East High School.

I really got to give credit to Brownback here. He did the right thing. From his statement:

"I enjoyed speaking to the more than 100 students who participated in the Youth in Government Program at the Kansas Capitol. They are our future," the governor said. "I also want to thank the thousands of Kansas educators who remind us daily of our liberties, as well as the values of civility and decorum."

"Again, I apologize for our over-reaction," he said.

Again - thank your Gov. Brownback for doing the right thing here!

BREAKING: Rep. Barney Frank To Retire

Posted 11/28/11 at 10:31am by jamie

No news yet as to why, but all the news outlets are confirming that Barney Frank will announce that he is not running for reelection in 2012. He is going to hold a news conference later on today to give more details.

I must say that this has taken me by surprise. What do you think is his reasoning? Writing on the wall? Time with family? Medical issues? Tired of dealing with the children that run our country?

Once more details come out I'll pass them along.

Student Who Tweeted About Sam Brownback Refuses To Apologize

Posted 11/28/11 at 9:16am by jamie

I blogged about Emma Sullivan on Saturday. She's a high school senior in Kansas who made a "disparaging" comment about Sam Brownback on Twitter and got called to the principals office for it. The principal tried to force her to write a letter of apology to the Republican governor after his office complained about the tweet. Sullivan is now refusing, saying such a letter wouldn't be sincere.

This is my "feel good" story of the day. It's great to see a young person stand up for their rights today. As the article pointed out, Sullivan was only talking to he 65 friends on Twitter when she made the comment. Now she has exploded to over 3,000 followers and is becoming a hero for freedom of speech.

Here's the interview with Sullivan, a new crusader for our Constitutional rights.

Don't Talk Bad About Sam Brownback!

Posted 11/26/11 at 10:34am by jamie

In what can only be described as one of the most egregious violations of the First Amendment, a high school senior in Kansas was disciplined for making a disparaging tweet about former Senator and now Governor, Sam Brownback:

Emma Sullivan, a senior at Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, was in Topeka on Monday as part of Kansas Youth in Government, a program for students interested in politics and government.

During the session, in which Brownback addressed the group, Sullivan posted on her personal Twitter page:

“Just made mean comments at gov brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot”

On Tuesday, Sullivan was called to her principal’s office and told that the tweet had been flagged by someone on Brownback’s staff and reported to organizers of the Youth in Government program.

[SNIP]

Sullivan said the principal ordered her to write letters of apology to Brownback, the school’s Youth in Government sponsor, the district’s social studies coordinator and others.

(emphasis added)

So Brownback's staff has nothing better to do than sit there and read tweets? And there's something even more interesting about that. Look at her tweet again:

“Just made mean comments at gov brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot”
