35,000 Occupy Foley Park Last Night, But What Was Missing?

Posted 11/18/11 at 9:54am by jamie

Last night police estimated a crowd of about 35,000 occupying Foley Park. The above is one of the thousands of pictures that emerged from the event.

Looking through all these pictures, you know what I noticed is missing? I noticed things like this weren't there:

Nor this:

People came to this event out of true outrage. They weren't lured their by celebrity names and offered cushy rides on corporate sponsored buses. That is how the Tea Party gets people to their rallies.

The Occupy movement is 100% grassroots, unlike the astroturf Tea Party. Occupy is the most American movement we have seen in a generation and one the resembles the founding of our nation. In fact Occupy is far more aligned to the Boston Tea Party then the Tea Party will ever be, considering the actual Boston Tea Party was more about inequality than it was taxes. That's what Occupy is fighting against - inequality. The fact that the 1% continue to see their tax burden go down and their benefits from our nation go up, while the opposite happens to the 99%.

Herman Cain Continues His Citizenship Test For Idiocracy

Posted 11/17/11 at 5:17pm by jamie

Herman Cain was asked today about his now infamous Libya answer. Here's what he had to say:

"I know that's a novel idea. And sometimes, I have to stop and gather my thoughts," Cain said.

"The people that get on the Cain train, they don't get off because of that crap," he said. "Who knows every detail of every country on the planet? Nobody!"

Sure no one knows "every detail of every country on the planet", but the fact that Cain is now equating Libya to say Swaziland proves he has no idea on the world or even events that happened in the past year.

Again - Libya was a major conflict the United States was involved in and one that drew a lot of different opinions throughout the political world. I don't need to tell you that, but apparently someone should inform the Pizza Man of this!

Mitt Romney Kicks Veteran Out Of Campaign Event

Posted 11/17/11 at 4:05pm by jamie

Mitt Romney has had his right to flip flop protected by the men and women of the U.S. military, so how does he repay them? He kicks them out of his campaign event!

A handful of people wearing "Vets against VA vouchers" T-shirts showed up at Mitt Romney's economic speech in Columbia to express opposition to an idea the GOP presidential candidate has floated about privatizing health care for military veterans.

The former Massachusetts governor was speaking about jobs and labor policy at Colite International after he toured the corporate and retail sign manufacturing business. Ann Romney joined her husband onstage and delivered brief remarks.

Harmon said they had no intention of being disruptive and that she "stood there politely" when she revealed her "Vets against VA vouchers" T-shirt, but at different times they were escorted outside by Romney campaign aides, who allegedly told them to leave the premises.

They left the parking lot without incident and repositioned across the street where Romney would presumably see them as he was leaving.

A Romney aide and spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment.

The incident was caught on video as well:

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez Sure Doesn't Sound Like A Lefty

Posted 11/17/11 at 2:53pm by jamie

A manhunt was underway yesterday for Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, who was suspected of firing a gun at the White House last week. Last night authorities caught the man and now we are starting to learn more about him:

CBS News, also citing unnamed sources, reports they say "Ortega-Hernandez was not on the radar of the Secret Service before Friday's shooting. But investigators believe he may have targeted the White House due to a hatred of President Obama."

[SNIP]

In Idaho Falls, LocalNews8.com reports that a local computer consultant, Monte McCall, says he spoke with Ortega-Hernandez in July and that the young man referred to President Obama as "the antichrist."

As I pointed out yesterday, Michelle Malkin quickly said that the left would blame the Tea Party, but in fact it was the right trying to associate this man as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Now that we are learning more about the man, it appears his thinking is more aligned with America's right than left. The "antichrist" meme we started hearing during the 2008 elections from the right. Numerous religious leaders and Republican activists tried to make President Obama out to be the antichrist.

BREAKING: Daily Caller Reporters Assaulted By NYPD At #OWS

A girl being arrested today during the Occupy protests.

This is as amazing at it is an assault on our constitutional rights

But when a couple of Daily Caller employees were at Occupy Wall Street this morning, it was the very protesters they had been demonizing who ended up helping them out. Daily Caller reporter Michelle Fields — who faced off with actor Matt Damon earlier this year over education policy — and videographer Direna Cousins both claim they were attacked by the New York Police Department (NYPD) while covering the raucous protests in the Financial District today. Fields added that Occupy Wall Street protesters immediately came up to her to offer their help:

“Direna had a camera in her hand and I had a microphone, and we were being hit,” she said. “When I fell to the ground I said at one point, ‘I’m just covering this! I’m covering this!’ And the officer just said, ‘Come on, get up, get up,’ before pulling me up by my jacket.’” “The protesters came up to me right away and asked if I needed any medical assistance. They were actually very kind and helpful. It was the police officers who were very aggressive,” Fields added.

No Money For You, Rick!

Posted 11/17/11 at 1:06pm by jamie

In our political system money means everything. For Rick Perry, it now looks like he is losing everything:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign fundraising has gone into a tailspin as a result of poor debate performances and plunging poll numbers, jeopardizing his position as the best-funded Republican presidential candidate of 2012.

Perry’s associates and supporters say his campaign has redoubled its money-raising efforts in the past week to ensure that his campaign will have enough money to survive the first three contests of the 2012 election calendar: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

But Perry’s loyal backers are running into resistance from Republican donors. One Perry fundraiser, who asked not to be named, said he received 15 RSVPs for a recent event from potential donors saying they might attend. But after a gaffe-marred Perry debate performance, none showed up.

“The debates have taken a toll,” the fundraiser said. “The national numbers have taken a toll. People see the campaign on a negative trajectory.”

(emphasis added)

Political donors want to back a winner and for some reason the only group that ever saw Rick Perry as a winner was the media. Before he ever entered the race the media proclaimed him the front runner. It didn't take long for that fad the fade into oblivion and now Rick Perry has become another punchline in a growing field of GOP jokes, running to be the next leader of our country.

How Dare President Obama Insult Our School Children!

Posted 11/17/11 at 12:46pm by jamie

Last week President Obama was accused of calling American workers "lazy", which of course he didn't. That hasn't stopped the right from taking his comment out of context and seizing on it as Obama hating America.

While that story is still going on, we now have a new one. Now the Prez has decided to insult our school children:

Speaking at a high school in Australia, President Obama told a group of Aussie students that their counterparts in his country had “fallen behind” when it comes to math and science, saying he wants to reform the public school system.

Obama also asserted that poor children don’t get “support they need when they’re very young’’ and are “already behind’’’ when they enter grammar school, according to a press pool report.

Obama might have thought twice before casting America’s public school kids in a negative light to foreign students. Especially since he can exclude his own children from the system by paying for them to attend private school.

How are that America hating, Muslim terrorist insult our children!

If You Can't Face The Cameras, How Can You Face The Terrorists?

Posted 11/17/11 at 11:14am by jamie

Herman, oh Herman. It appears that you are now frightened of the news cameras. Gee, I wonder why?

If Herman Cain stumbles on a foreign policy question during Thursday’s scheduled editorial board meeting with New Hampshire's influential Union Leader newspaper -- as he did earlier this week when asked about President Obama's handling of Libya -- don't expect to see the clip on an endless cable news loop.

That's because Cain campaign has requested that the sit-down not be videotaped. And now, a scheduling matter puts the entire 10 a.m. interview in jeopardy.

Union Leader publisher Joe McQuaid told The Huffington Post that "no reason was given" and that he "was a bit surprised" by the no-camera request. So far, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum have all met with the Union Leader and allowed C-SPAN to tape the newspaper interviews for broadcast.

When asked about the request, Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon told The Huffington Post that "video cameras are optional at Ed Boards and we decided not to pursue that option." Gordon added that "the interview is at a newspaper, not a TV station."

We expect a President to be a quick thinker. We learned about it in 2008 with the 3am ad. Last night I decided to have some fun with that ad:

We have had two different front runners for the GOP field experience their "red phone" moment and they both have failed miserably. Herman Cain and Rick Perry have now both tried the "run and hide" method to prevent any future gaffs. The problem is that these gaffs also exemplify the very reason neither man is suited to hold the office of President of the United States. The GOP just best suck it up and realize they need to go with Mitt.

Gingrich/Cain 2012?

Posted 11/17/11 at 9:40am by jamie

Santa, here's what I want!!!!!!

Newt Gingrich said a Gingrich-Hermain Cain ticket would be "a real possibility" if he won the Republican presidential nomination.

Speaking in an interview with Newsmax magazine, in response to the prospect of a Gingrich-Cain ticket or Cain-Gingrich ticket, Gingrich said that was "a real possibility."

Let's see, that would be a thrice married, serial adulterer and a serial sexual harasser on the "family values" ticket. YES PLEASE!

(And I apologize to my comedy writer friends out there. I know this puts your job in jeopardy since the jokes will write themselves with this ticket!)

Texas College GOP Leader Thinks Assassination Is A Joke

Posted 11/17/11 at 9:05am by jamie

Yesterday we learned about someone who had shot an AK-47 at the White House over the weekend. So how does the right respond? Well one person decided it was a joke making moment:

Hours after Pennsylvania State Police arrested a 21-year-old Idaho man for allegedly firing a semi-automatic rifle at the White House, the top student official for the College Republicans at the University of Texas tweeted that the idea of assassinating President Obama was “tempting.”

At 2:29 p.m. ET, UT’s Lauren E. Pierce wrote: “Y’all as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had! #2012.”

Pierce, the president of the College Republicans at UT Austin, told ABC News the comment was a “joke” and that the “whole [shooting incident] was stupid.” Giggling, she said that an attempted assassination would “only make the situation worse.”

The vice-President of the group is even invoking the "freedom of speech" argument in defending this comment.

Apparently Pierce is a product of that great Texas education, the one where our forefathers included Ronald Reagan. Her idiotic comments shows she is not up on actual current events, like a congress woman getting shot earlier this year. Yeah, Texas don't want to hear that kind of liberal gossip!

Luckily for Pierce Bush isn't President. If not then she would probably be sent to Gitmo, considering a picture of Bush with a thumbtack through the head was grounds for a 15 year old student to get pulled out of school and questioned by the Secret Service. I wonder if Pierce would have considered that "freedom of speech"?
