Mark Block Proves Herman Cain’s Inability To Manage

Posted 11/9/11 at 12:30pm by jamie

Since Mark Block falsely asserted that a former Politico reporter is related to one of Herman Cain’s sexual harassment victims a growing theme has emerged on the right – Mark Block is the key to all of Cain’s problems. Mark Block is a disaster for Cain, but it also highlights a serious flaw in Cain himself. I won’t go into it, but rather let a rightwing blogger, who I almost always disagree with, explain. Here’s Michelle Malkin:

Herman Cain has campaigned on his reputation as a visionary business leader with the guts and know-how to reward what works and cut loose what doesn’t.

Time to practice what he preaches.

And that’s exactly the problem right there! Block’s accusations yesterday weren’t the first time he went out and played the conspiracy theory, gossip queen card. It was Block who was accusing Rick Perry of being behind the release of the sexual harassment stories. Even Herman Cain himself denied that. Now we got the second major flap in a week. And that’s only the problems involving the sexual harassment story. There’s also some serious legal questions and complaints in regarding Block and funneling money illegal into the Cain campaign.

If Herman Cain is a serious business man he would realize his own worst enemy is actually the man running his campaign. Of course there is another side to that equation. Cain cutting Block loose right now would be another big ding to his run and really show that his campaign is imploding.

The Implosion Of Herman Cain Continues

It’s been 24 hours since we learned who Karen Kraushaar is and the Cain people are going into full attack. Let’s start off with a bald face lie being told by Cain’s campaign manager, Mark Block:

Herman Cain campaign manager Mark Block, in an appearance with Sean Hannity on Fox News just now, insisted that a relative of the second woman to publicly accuse the candidate of sexual harassment in the 1990s works at POLITICO.

"Her son works at POLITICO," Block said of Karen Kraushaar, whose name POLITICO printed earlier today after other media outlets made her identity public.

"I've been hearing that all day - you've confirmed that now?" Hannity asked.

"We've confirmed that he does indeed work at POLITICO and that's his mother, yes," said Block.

Block appeared to be referring to former POLITICO reporter Josh Kraushaar, who left for another outlet, National Journal, in 2010.

Josh Kraushaar tweeted earlier in the day, apparently after getting questions, that he's in fact not related to Karen Kraushaar, and simply has the same last name.

A flat out lie being told by Cain’s people and they keep pushing it. But it also doesn’t stop there. Here’s a screen shot of a post on Herman Cain’s PAC:

Details Emerge Of One Of Cain’s Accusers

Posted 11/8/11 at 11:55am by jamie

It was only a matter of time before the anonymity of these women would go away. Here’s one of the accusers from the original Politico story:

Karen Kraushaar, a 55-year-old former journalist and seasoned government spokeswoman who served on the front lines of the Elian Gonzalez custody battle, is a competitive equestrian and lover of golden retrievers. She has been married for more than two decades.

“She wouldn’t be the type to make false allegations,” brother-in-law Ned Kraushaar, a Georgia software consultant, told The Daily. “This happened [more than] 10 years ago. It’s not like she wanted to try and hurt the Republican Party.”

Karen Kraushaar currently serves as a communications director at the Inspector General’s Office of the Treasury Department, a position she has held since last year. She did not return phone messages left by The Daily.

The entire piece is worth a read as it lays out a woman who was seriously disturbed by what happened and in no way is out to make fame or money from the incident. Of course the fact that she works in the federal government will have the right painting this as a huge conspiracy.

I really feel sorry for Karen now. It’s bad enough she had to endure Cain’s sexual harassment, but now she will have to suffer through the monsters on right and their attacks on her. To them the only victim is Herman Cain and this will be someone who was just asking for it.

New Cain Accuser Speaks (Updated With Video)

Posted 11/7/11 at 2:40pm by jamie

I just got done watching the press conference of Sharon Bialek, the latest woman to accuse Herman Cain of sexual misconduct. Since there was no actual paper trail of this claim it’s just all allegations right now, but I must say if what she said is true, then Herman Cain is really a sick man.

Bialek said the alleged incident in question occurred down the street from the NRA headquarters. Describing what happened she said, "Instead of going into the offices, he suddenly reached over and put his hand on my leg, up my skirt, and towards my genitals." She recalled that when she protested the advances, Cain said, "You want a job right?"

Bialek alleged that Cain also "grabbed [her] head and brought it towards his crotch." She said that she was "shocked" by the behavior.

The Cain campaign was quick to come out with a statement on the accusations, calling the charges of sexual harassment "false."

This sounds more like a sexual assault than harassment to me, but again, this is all allegations at this point. Still, allegations of this heinous nature deserve to be investigated. This man is running to be the leader of our country and if he has done anything remotely close to this then that should disqualify him right now.

Of course the right is also gunning to the defense. The press conference has only been over for a half hour and already Drudge has dug up the reason she shouldn’t be trusted:

49.1 Million Americans In Poverty In 2010

Posted 11/7/11 at 12:26pm by jamie

Our path to third world nation status continues:

The number of Americans living in poverty reached a record 49.1 million in 2010, according to a new broader measure of poverty released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Monday.

That figure contrasts with an official poverty measure released in September that said there were 46.2 million poor people in the United States.

The new measure is designed to provide a fuller picture of poverty by including the government benefits poor people receive and the expenses they pay. The official benchmark focuses more narrowly on cash wages.

That's almost 1 in 5 Americans and there seems to be no end in site with this from Pew Research:

Older adults have made dramatic gains relative to younger adults in their economic well being during the past quarter century, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of data from two key U.S. Census sources.

Trends in household wealth reveal the pattern most vividly. In 2009, the median net worth (all assets minus all debts) of households headed by an adult ages 65 or older was 42% more than that of their same-aged counterparts in 1984. By contrast, the net worth of a typical household headed by an adult under the age of 35 in 2009 was 68% less than that of their same-aged counterparts in 1984.

Gingrich Accuses The Media Of Favoring Gossip

Posted 11/7/11 at 11:04am by jamie

Sure the media has become a gossip factory. A lot of that started because of our Congress in the 90’s that investigated Bill Clinton for everything possible. Yeah everyone knows about Monica, but how about the White House Christmas card list or Clinton getting a haircut? That Congress turned everything Clinton did into a gossip style story.

Oh and that Congress? Well it was lead by Newt Gingrich.

But that was then and this is now. What Gingrich is talking about today is the sexual harassment stories coming out about Herman Cain.

Gingrich tells NBC's "Today" show that news organizations care more about scandal than ordinary citizens struggling to make ends meet.

The former House speaker says voters want a "solution-oriented leader" more than a scandal. He says it's up to Cain to handle in the way he sees fit. But Gingrich says there's a gap between the "gossip" he believes journalists pursue, and more deep-seated problems like economic stagnation.

You know, I do wish the news would pay more attention to people struggling, but I also wish our Congress would too. We are nearly 10 months in since the Republicans have taken over the House and they have produced zero job creating bills. At the same time they have pushed legislation like honoring Ronald Reagan, limiting abortion rights and affirming “in God we trust”. So perhaps Gingrich should talk to the man who holds his old job, John Boehner, about this.

And about the “gossip”. Well it’s a little more than that Newt. The NRA has confirmed what happened, Cain has confirmed what happened and Cain’s piss-poor handling of the story has kept it alive. That’s not “gossip”, but rather fact.

New Cain Accuser To Go Public

Posted 11/7/11 at 9:52am by jamie

I wondered Saturday where the Herman Cain sexual harassment story might go this week. Well now we know:

A new woman alleging sexual harassment by presidential hopeful Herman Cain will break her silence at a news conference with her powerhouse attorney Gloria Allred Monday afternoon in New York City, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

The embattled GOP nominee has admitted that several women who worked at the National Restaurant Association during his tenure as president of the organization received settlements. Politico has reported that the settlements were given because of sexual harassment allegations.

The woman, who will be the first to go public on Monday, sought Cain's help with an employment issue and was allegedly sexually harassed by him. Allred and her client will discuss, in detail, what she alleges occurred with Cain.

I wonder if the right will stop the “faceless claims” line now? I doubt it and actually see this new woman suffering some serious attacks from the right. That is what they do after all, blame the victim. It’s a good thing she has a powerhouse attorney like Gloria Allred to help here ward off those attacks.

The NRA Was Proactive Against Sexual Harassment Under Cain

Posted 11/5/11 at 12:42pm by jamie

Politico is up with another interesting article about Herman Cain’s time at the National Restaurant Association:

With Cain at the helm as CEO in 1998, the association created a video to explain sexual harassment laws to its members – and created a sample sexual harassment policy for individual restaurants to use, according to a Chicago Tribune story at the time.

The NRA’s Educational Foundation began offering a training program for member restaurants called, “What’s the Big Deal? Sexual Harassment Prevention Program,” in addition to its ServSafe safety and alcohol training materials. Today, according to the ServSafe website, restaurants can purchase employee and manager training brochures, as well as DVDs to explain acceptable practices.

Scher, who observed the NRA’s actions at the time and has read about them since, said the organization’s actions were, at the time, a proactive step.

This in no way absolves Cain of any past wrongdoings. Mark Foley also helped create legislation to protect children from predators while he was a predator. What Cain did was what every CEO in America was doing at the time, addressing sexual harassment. With Clarence Thomas and Bill Clinton, the phrase “sexual harassment” become very common and companies realized they had to take steps to help prevent it.

Of course some on the right insinuate that this maybe Cain’s reprieve. Here’s William Jacobson:

The Right Only Has Themselves To Blame For The Cain Story

Posted 11/4/11 at 7:18pm by jamie

Throughout this entire week many on the right has been accusing liberals, the media and even other GOP candidates for the Herman Cain sexual harassment story. In those defenses we have also heard things like “what about Bill Clinton”? Well what about him? They bring up a very interesting point.

Bill Clinton’s road to impeachment started with investigations into claims of sexual harassment, in the name of Paula Jones. Yes that is what really got the whole thing going in Congress and there hasn’t been no legal action brought against Cain, but what if he did when election and one of these accusers decided to take the case to court? We would end up with the makings of one of our darkest points in presidential history, but would the right allow investigations go on into Herman Cain if that happened? The laws of double standards from the right dictate not.

The entire point here is that the media is out there doing their job of vetting someone who could be our next President. Since the beginning of this country the media has been our only real vetting process for candidates. They have the tools and resources to find out who we might be electing to be our next leader and they did just that on Herman Cain. Sexual harassment has become a new part of that vetting process and that is because of Bill Clinton. It was the right’s continuous obsession with Bill Clinton’s sex life that made what we see today the norm.

Just think of this when you try to dismiss the story of Herman Cain, Bill Clinton’s problems started with claims of sexual harassment by a former employee. If Herman Cain does become President, is the right ready to relive the 90s when it’s their own party on trial? I highly doubt it.
