People Taking Notice Of Employers Asking Recruits For Facebook Account Info

Posted 3/23/12 at 4:07pm by jamie

It finally looks like we are going to see some legislation making it illegal for employers to ask employees and possible new hires for their social networking login information:

If the thought of being asked by a prospective employer for your Facebook and Twitter login credentials makes you uneasy, you're not alone. Senator Richard Blumenthal has announced that he's working on a new bill that would prohibit the requests, pointing to the ban on workplace polygraphs as justification for outlawing the practice. The bill would also be structured to take the needs of existing employees into account, although Blumenthal says he's still examining the details.

Speaking to Politico, the senator described the requests as an "unreasonable invasion of privacy for people seeking work," adding that the bill would be ready "in the very near future." The senator is aiming to go beyond proposed legislation in Maryland and Illinois, claiming the practices under scrutiny "go beyond the borders of individual states and call for a national solution." It's worth noting that it's against Facebook's terms of service to give your password to someone else, and while the Department of Justice apparently believes violating these terms is a federal crime, it has said to Congress that it won't prosecute violations

Not only that, but Facebook is also not happy with the practice at all:

Facebook has weighed in on a practice by some businesses asking employees or job applicants for their passwords to the popular social-media site.

Mitt Romney Wanted Higher Gas Prices

Posted 3/22/12 at 1:58pm by jamie

This man really doesn't know where he stands:

At moments, Romney went so far as to make high gas prices out to be a welcome reality for the foreseeable future, one that people needed to learn to live with. When lieutenant governor Kerry Healey, a fellow Republican, called for suspending the state’s 23.5 cent gas tax during a price spike in May 2006, Romney rejected the idea, saying it would only further drive up gasoline consumption. “I don’t think that now is the time, and I’m not sure there will be the right time, for us to encourage the use of more gasoline,” Romney said, according to the Quincy Patriot Ledger’s report at the time. “I’m very much in favor of people recognizing that these high gasoline prices are probably here to stay.”

Of course Romney has been out on the campaign trail the past couple of weeks accusing President Obama of wanting higher gas prices.

These people really have no idea where they stand or what they stand for. Time to shake that Etch-a-Sketch again!

Truth In Politics? Romney Adviser Inadvertently Admits The Biggest Problem

Posted 3/21/12 at 2:35pm by jamie

Mitt Romney Communications Director Eric Fehrnstrom, appearing on CNN, was asked about his candidate moving to the far right and possibly alienating some of the more independent supporters. Here's what he said:

HOST: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.

Think Progress has the video from this exchange.

Welcome to the problem of politics that all American's know about. The fact that candidates now admit they don't believe what they say; that they are willing to say anything to get the vote, is a serious issue facing America. No one ever knows exactly what their candidate is going to do once in office, and once they do assume their elected position they will try and do everything to make you feel crazy for thinking they stood for something else.

And while this issue plagues all sides of the political spectrum, it has been most obvious in Mitt Romney. This man has constantly flip-flopped on issues. That's also why President Obama will have an easy time beating him. Even Republican voters would be willing to vote for Obama over Romney simply because they know what they are getting with Obama, but Romney will be a serious gamble. Fehrnstrom just reaffirmed that fear with many in the GOP. I'm sure Obama is thanking him right now.

Homless Man In Custody Following Texas Firebombing

Posted 3/21/12 at 1:37pm by jamie

We now have more details on the suspect arrested for throwing a firebomb at Texas State Senator, Wendy Davis. Via TPM:

A homeless man with a history of mental illness was arrested in connection with the firebombing of the Fort Worth offices of Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D), an official with the city’s fire department said on Wednesday.

Police arrested Cedric Steele, 40, on Tuesday night, just hours after he was suspected of hitting the senator’s district office with a pair of Molotov cocktails, fire Capt. Tom Crow told TPM.

Steele was arrested about 11 p.m. at a convenience store in Fort Worth. He is believed to be homeless and was staying in a vacant building, where Crow said investigators found things that could be used to make the bombs, including bottles, lighter fluid and fuses.

He was being charged with one felony count of arson of an occupied building and held on a $50,000 bond, Crow said.

While the attack does not appear to be politically motivated, there is politics involved here. The conservative way of thinking that has swept the nation over the past several decades have left people like Mr. Steele unable to obtain help for their mental illness. Mental health, once taken care of by the state, has become a "luxury" that many people can't afford, especially a homeless person.

Firebomb Thrown At Democratic Lawmakers Office

Posted 3/21/12 at 10:12am by jamie

This isn't America anymore!

Fort Worth police say an arrest has been made in connection with Tuesday night's firebomb attack on the office of state Sen. Wendy Davis.

Davis was not in the office at the time of the attack, and no one was injured.

Two staff members opened the door to the office Tuesday night to find flames shooting in the air, the senator's spokesman said. An employee put out the fire with an extinguisher, said Anthony Spangler, the senator's spokesman.

There are no more details on the suspect yet. A news conference is coming up in a bit. As soon as more information is released I'll be sure to post it.

Dutch Catholic Church Forced Castration Of Young Men

Posted 3/20/12 at 12:47pm by jamie

This story is truly horrifying:

Henk Heithuis was 20 years old in 1956 when he was castrated in a Dutch Catholic hospital. Two years later he was dead. According to a report in the U.K. newspaper The Telegraph, Heithuis and at least nine others were surgically castrated on order of the Catholic church “as a treatment for homosexuality and also as a punishment for those who accused clergy of sexual abuse.”

The explosive allegations are part of a report by Dutch investigative journalist Joep Dohmen, who told the Telegraph that of the ten reports he uncovered, only Heithuis is named. As for the other nine, he said, “These cases are anonymous and can no longer be traced. There will be many more. But the question is whether those boys, now old men, will want to tell their story.”

The story of Henk Heithuis was brought to light by Dutch sculptor Cornelius Rogge, now 79, whose family knew Heithuis. Rogge first attempted to report the young man’s abuse at the hands of the church as part of an official inquiry launched in December of 2011 by Dutch cabinet minister Wim Deetman.

The Deetman inquiry chose not to look into the allegations, saying that there were “few leads to conduct further research.” Evidence emerged on Monday, however, that not only was the Catholic church ordering castrations, but that government inspectors were present at the meetings discussing castrations and that officials felt no particular need to consult the patients’ families.

Another Breitbart "Vetting" Piece Unleashed

Posted 3/19/12 at 10:57am by jamie

Andrew Breitbart is doing his vetting of the Obama administration beyond the grave and this time they have gone after Eric Holder:

Breitbart.com has uncovered video from 1995 of then-U.S. Attorney Eric Holder announcing a public campaign to "really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way."

Holder was addressing the Woman's National Democratic Club. In his remarks, broadcast by CSPAN 2, he explained that he intended to use anti-smoking campaigns as his model to "change the hearts and minds of people in Washington, DC" about guns.

"What we need to do is change the way in which people think about guns, especially young people, and make it something that's not cool, that it's not acceptable, it's not hip to carry a gun anymore, in the way in which we changed our attitudes about cigarettes."

This is another nuclear bomb being dropped by the right. How dare the future Attorney General say guns aren't cool! I mean going into schools and shooting students, shooting members of Congress and fellow workers - how much cooler can you get?

Of course the right has been pushing this lie since Obama became the nominee that he will take away everyone's guns. Funny that guns are still selling and people still have them. Even funnier is that the President hasn't proposed anything to limit those rights. Just more conspiracy theories being pushed by the biggest bunch of conspiracy theorists in the country - the Republican Party.

#TeaParty Rape

Posted 3/18/12 at 11:52am by jamie

Looks like someone from the party of Santorum, Gingrich, Palin, etc., is in some serious trouble:

Lemon Grove resident Michael John Kobulnicky, 50, a leader in the San Diego Tea Party and former regional director of the Southern California Conservative Party, is under arrest for allegedly kidnapping and raping a local woman on Fiesta Island.

“He dragged her out of the car and sexually assaulted her pretty brutally,” San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown told ECM news partner 10 News in late February, shortly after the February 25 assault occurred.

On his website, http://www.michaelkobulnickyusa.com, Kobulnicky lists his leadership roles as “currently the co-organizer and public relations representative for the San Diego Tea Party.”

The right is really taking the "war on women" to a whole new level!

(NOTE: No I don't believe that Tea Party people are rapists. I'm just making headlines like the right does whenever there's a rape near an Occupy camp. Unlike those stories though, this one didn't have to be twisted Jim Hoft style, making a fake connection between the accused and the Tea Party. The connection is very real)

America's Biggest Problem!

Posted 3/16/12 at 1:03pm by jamie

PORN!

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum says that “America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography” because the Obama administration favors “pornographers over children.”

In an undated statement on his official website, the former Pennsylvania senator promises that he will “vigorously” fight to make sure porn isn’t easily available in the U.S.

“Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships,” the statement says. “It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.”

“Current federal ‘obscenity’ laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier,” the statement continues, adding that these laws should be “vigorously enforced.”

The GOP constantly talks about rights, freedoms and personal responsibility, yet they want to turn this into a nanny state over things they morally object too. They are the biggest bunch of fucking nannies to ever walk the planet and their hypocrisy reeks through and through.

And what about real problems, Rick? What about the economy, terrorism, millions of Americans and children starving and without affordable healthcare? You don't give a rat's ass about any of that; just your moral crap. Sorry but I won't take morality lessons from someone who sleeps with a dead baby.

Jim Hoft's Inability To Read!

Posted 3/14/12 at 3:44pm by jamie

Jim Hoft, aka Gateway Pundit, is at it again. In reference to this article, Hoft posts this:

Hoft then goes on to quote the article:

A member of the Occupy New Haven movement was raped in a tent at the Occupy camp late on Monday night or early Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said a woman went to find the victim on Tuesday afternoon because she had not seen her.

She went to the woman’s tent and called for her, but there was no answer, so she looked inside the tent and found the woman, police said.

The victim wasn’t able to respond, police said, so the witness yelled out to other Occupiers to call police and emergency medical services.

At some point, the victim told the witness she had been raped in a tent at the camp, police said.

Police responded to the camp at 3:25 p.m. The victim was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital and police charged England Gamble, 53, of New Haven, with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint.

If you notice in Hoft's caption he refers to Gamble as a #occupier. Now either Hoft can't read more than a few paragraphs or he just loves lying to his readers because further down the article we find out:

Members of the Occupy movement said neither Gamble nor the victim are members of the movement. They said both are homeless and set up a tent nearby.

That's wingnut journalistic standards right there; totally ignore facts or just omit them altogether. Talk about sad....
