Republican Senate Candidate Dismisses Pregnancy By Rape

Posted 8/19/12 at 3:36pm by jamie

Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) is running for Senate. against Claire McCaskill. This Tea Party favorite has taken the misogynistic views of America's right to a whole new low, declaring that:

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Don't believe me? Yeah I wouldn't either, especially given the totally heinous claims made here, so here is the video to see it for yourself:

Now either Akin is one of the most idiotic men alive, in which case he should have been aborted, or he is just playing this card to make excuses to outlaw all abortions. Either way, this sorry piece of shit has no place in Congress, the Senate or the human race.

But sadly Akin echoes the same sentiment towards women's reproductive health that many on the right feel. I just can't wait to hear how some of these women-hating wingnuts are going to defend this.

GOP Activist Accused Of Multiple Date-Rape Assaults

Posted 8/16/12 at 10:05am by jamie

A lot of attention has been given to Floyd Corkins, a LGBT activist accused of shooing a security guard at the Family Research Council. The right is using this as a reason to paint the entire LGBT community as violent and possibly domestic terrorists.

Fine, I'll bite. If the actions of this one man means the entire LGBT community is violent, then the actions of another man means the entire Republican Party is rapists:

The fourth alleged rape victim of Gregory Nathan Peterson delivered shocking testimony in court Wednesday, detailing how the prominent Republican activist physically abused her and raped her twice at his Utah cabin last year.

Peterson, who was also at the preliminary hearing in Salt Lake City, Utah Wednesday, faces multiple charges of assault, rape and kidnapping, after several women have come forward to accuse him of sexual abuse, The Salt Lake City Tribune reported.

So who is Peterson? He is a big time GOP activist in Utah, hosting events for people like Orin Hatch. He is also a Mormon.

So does that mean that not only the GOP, but also the Mormon Church should be qualified as rapists because of the actions of this one man? If we follow the logic of the right, then I would say so. But I don't subscribe to the irrational grouping of people based upon the actions of an individual. Instead Peterson, like Corkins, acted alone.

There are sick and twisted people out there. There are also people who get hurt by the actions of others. In the case of Peterson, he is the former, while Corkins is the later. Either way, what both men have done is wrong and luckily justice is handling them as we speak.

Is Romney Writing Off Florida?

Posted 8/13/12 at 5:26pm by jamie

This doesn't sound to good for the Mitt Romney campaign:

Mitt Romney is canceling a planned campaign stop Monday in Orlando after a whirlwind weekend in which the presumptive Republican nominee introduced Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as his running mate.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the campaign said late Sunday that the presidential hopeful was "too exhausted to make the trip" after crisscrossing Virginia, North Carolina and Wisconsin over the weekend.

"We've been planning this bus tour for a while and had to adjust for stuff going on," Jeff Bechdel, Florida communications director for the campaign, told the paper.

Florida is one of the key battleground states this cycle and Romney is blowing off a campaign stop there because of "exhaustion"? Maybe he is truly exhausted, or maybe he is trying to figure out how to face the huge senior populace of Florida that depends upon Medicare, especially now that the man who wants to gut Medicare is his running mate. To see just how bad it is, checkout these headlines from Florida papers over the weekend.

The GOP's Materialistic Candidates

Posted 8/13/12 at 10:16am by jamie

In 2008 Sarah Palin was picked as a materialistic candidate. She had no real experience to become vice-President and the voters quickly saw that. But that didn't stop the right-wing pundits from trying to sell her to us with such qualifications as "she's hot" and "a great attack dog".

Fast-forward to 2012 and we are seeing a repeat. For example, here's a story that Matt Drudge is pushing:

Now back to 2008. That was a time when we heard the right got after Barack Obama for being "skinny", despite his body fat being estimated close to double that of Ryan's. Are appearences really what our Presidential selection process has come down to? Well Politico seems to think so:

Overlooked, understandably, in Saturday’s analysis and news that Rep. Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney’s vice presidential nominee was one mostly — but not entirely — unimportant aspect: Paul Ryan is kind of hot.

Upon hearing the news of Ryan’s nomination, TMZ was quick to declare Ryan “the hottest vice presidential candidate ever.”

But looks shouldn't matter when it comes to President or vice-President. Instead the focus should be on experience and plans. The right seems to ignore this.

Mitt's Panties Are In A Bunch

Posted 8/10/12 at 6:19pm by jamie

Mitt Romney doesn't think the cornerstone of his Presidential resume should be discussed anymore:

“Our campaign would be — helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon — business or family or taxes or things of that nature,” Romney said, according to excerpts of an upcoming interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd released Friday.

Romney said he would prefer the campaigns “only talk about issues,” and claimed that “our ads haven’t gone after the president personally. … We haven’t dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time around. We haven’t gone after the personal things.”

The issues? Mitt Romney only discusses those in private fund raisers hosted by multi-millionaires. Who the hell does he think he is kidding?

But for a campaign to resort to the whole "stop picking on me" thing shows that Romney is losing. If he really wanted to put an end to all of it, he would just release the damn taxes already. Why hasn't he? If there is nothing to hide, then there is nothing to lose in the release of them.

So we can now only conclude that Romney's taxes are a lot worse than anyone is imagining. Maybe it wasn't that he paid zero taxes, but instead got refunds from the government for a few years. We don't know because Romney won't show us and expects us to just "drop it".

Or maybe Romney is scared to death that releasing his taxes, if all perfectly legit, won't end it. I mean look at what his own party has created with the whole "birther" thing. Despite Obama releasing his birth certificate and Hawaii even verifying it, the right continues to push the "he wasn't born here" meme. And that's not just little no-name bloggers, but big Republicans like Donald Trump and Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

How To Train Your Chinese Replacement

Posted 8/10/12 at 3:04pm by jamie

Maybe it would be better to call this "welcome to a Mitt Romney's America":

The shock of losing a precious job in a town afflicted by high unemployment is always hard. A foundation for a stable family life and secure home instantly disappears, replaced with a future filled with fears over health insurance, missed mortgage payments and the potential for a slip below the breadline.

But for Bonnie Borman – and 170 other men and women in Freeport,Illinois – there is a brutal twist to the torture. Borman, 52, and the other workers of a soon-to-be-shuttered car parts plant are personally training the Chinese workers who will replace them.

It’s a surreal experience, they say. For months they have watched their plant being dismantled and shipped to China, piece by piece, as they show teams of Chinese workers how to do the jobs they have dedicated their lives to.

So much attention has been placed on when Romney left Bain, but to me that doesn't matter. Romney started Bain and he is using it as his number one qualification on his resume to be President. This company has absolutley no disregard for the American economy or worker. They might as well wipe their asses with the American Flag, while pissing on the Constitution. Anyone who votes for this America hating, job killing, Scrooge, might as well flip the American worker and family the bird.

Republicans Love Baby Killing Romney

Posted 8/9/12 at 12:32pm by jamie

Think Progress points out an interesting tidbit on Romneycare:

As governor, Romney greatly expanded access publicly-financed contraception through his 2006 health care reform law. The state’s Commonwealth Care, established under Romneycare, offers subsidized, low or no-cost insurance to low-income residents and provides primary and preventive care that includes “family planning services” and prescription contraceptives. In 2005, Romney also “signed a bill that could expand the number of people who get family-planning services, including the morning-after pill” and asked the Department of Health and Human Services to require Catholic hospitals to issue the morning after pill to rape victims.

In fact, the Obamacare rule Romney is now characterizing as an affront to religious liberties is very similar to a 2002 state law he tacitly supported. Like more than two dozen states across the country, Massachusetts required insurers that provide outpatient benefits to cover hormone replacement therapy and all FDA-approved contraceptive methods — well before Obamacare became law. The Massachusetts rule exempts “an employer that is a church or qualified church-controlled organization” from the mandate, but prohibits institutions such as hospitals, universities, and nursing homes from denying their employees birth control coverage.

But in the illogical mind of a Republican, words speak louder than actions. Romney DID this, but he says he wouldn't now, so they believe him. I mean it's not like the guy would profit off aborted fetuses, or would he?

Guns In America

Posted 8/7/12 at 12:33pm by jamie

America has 5% of the world's population, 25% of the world's prison population and owns 50% of the world's guns.Thinking of those numbers makes the following two stories seem almost the norm:

Photo of Boy With Gun Leads To Charges For Dad

STOCKTON, Calif. - The father of a 6-year-old Northern California boy seen posing with a gun while in a car seat is now facing child endangerment charges, in addition to weapons and drug counts.

"We have parents handing a child a .45 caliber gun, there's no excuse for that whatsoever," San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Michael Mulvihill told CBS Sacramento. Mulvihill added that it not the first such picture he has seen, and likely won't be the last. "This child is on a track right now to think engaging in criminal activity is ok. The likelihood of him offending now in the future is much higher given the environment he is in," said Mulvihill.

Then right here in Ohio:

Police: Ohio man brought gun, knives to 'Dark Knight' showing

WESTLAKE, Ohio - Authorities say a Cleveland-area man has been arrested for carrying a gun, ammunition and several knives into a showing of the "The Dark Knight Rises."

Police in North Ridgeville said a movie theater manager was suspicious of Scott Smith and his satchel when he entered for the 10 p.m. Saturday showing of the Batman movie.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports that manager and an off-duty police officer working security searched Smith's bag and found a Glock 9mm, two magazines and two knives. A third knife was found when Smith was searched, police said.

Lindsey Graham - Economic Terrorist!

Posted 8/6/12 at 10:25am by jamie

One of the tools terrorists always try to employ is economic terrorism. Find ways to destroy an economy to help push their agenda. Now a U.S. Senator is pushing that very tactic here at home:

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) called on government contractors to put employees on layoff notice before November's election as a way to pressure Congress to address the so-called "fiscal cliff."

Graham, joined by Republican Sens. John McCain (AZ) and Kelly Ayotte (NH), were in Florida for their first stop on a two-day, four-state tour by these three members of the Senate Armed Services Committee designed to bring attention to the $500 billion in automatic cuts scheduled to begin in January if Congress does not find other ways to cut spending.

“Politicians, you know, quite frankly respond to pressure,” Graham said about the cuts set to begin in 2013 under the so-called sequestration budget.

This goes right along with the Republican platform of "tanking the economy to gain political power". Just remember, the Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, admitted last year that the GOP benefits from bad economic news and their obstructionism on any bill to help improve the economy is proof of that.

And then there's this little bit of delusional crap:

McCain, Graham, and Ayotte called for a bipartisan solution to the crisis.

Perhaps they can't remember way back in 2009 when the people voted in a huge Democratic majority in the House and Senate, yet Republicans felt the voters were too stupid to pick their own leaders, so they engaged in any trick they could to block the majority from acting.

Freedom Of Religion Is A Two Way Street

Posted 8/2/12 at 11:17am by jamie

I haven't dove into the Chick-fil-A controversy yet, mainly because there has been enough other stories out there that need covering. But I think it does deserve mentioning that I have to back up Chick-fil-A against Rahm Emanuel and Chicago when it comes to wanting to build a store in The Windy City.

Think back a couple of years when Muslims wanted to build a Mosque in New York. The "they don't look like us" folks threw a fit and did everything they could to block it. During that fight the left kept bringing up freedom or religion, rightfully so. The same freedom also applies to Chick-fil-A now. You can't pick and choose who gets that freedom and who doesn't. It means the freedom is provided across the board, regardless of if you like them or not.

So what's that mean? Simply put, I won't go to Chick-fil-A because of their stance on LGBT issues, but I will respect their right to build. So the left really needs to step back and rethink what they are saying now, because they are looking as bad as the Christians who tried to block that mosque.

And there are other reasons to really dislike the chicken franchise. If you want to know a big reason, head over to Digby's and read about what a freaky, cult-like atmosphere the company has. That right there is enough to keep me from patronizing them.
