Rand Paul Claims Christie Won Because Of Federal Money

In the latest round of a prelude to 2016, Sen. Rand Paul has made an attack against Chris Christie that is all but certain to backfire.

Rand Paul Claims Christie Won Because Of Federal Money

Yesterday Rand Paul was asked about his claims that Chris Christie is a moderate and defended his comments with:

“Well, his victory was, in large form, based on that he got a lot of federal money for his state,” Sen. Paul answered. “The problem is…unlimited spending is sort of – you could call it moderate, or even Liberal, to think that there’s an unlimited amount of money, even for good causes.

Sandy caused an estimated $30 billion loss for New Jersey and Rand Paul thinks that only a moderate would want to try and recover that money anyway possible? Let’s also not forget that a lot of the money was spent to increase flood insurance protection, something that can also be attributed to global warming.

But if Rand Paul is claiming the federal dollars spent in a state is some marker of liberalism, then how does he explain this?

The state which Rand Paul represents is the second largest recipient of federal money per capita in the country, accounting for over one third of the money they bring in. New Jersey? Well you got to dig way down on that list, since they are ranked 46th, bringing in half of what Kentucky does.

Now let’s put that into even greater perspective. Kentucky has a population of 4.4 million, while New Jersey is at 8.9 million. If we translate the federal dollars a state gets into per capita, then Kentucky is getting four times what New Jersey gets.

If Rand Paul wants to talk about states living off the government tit, then he better look at his own state before casting stones because right now he has just blown off the top of the hypocrist meter.
