Ann Romney Has Absolutely No Clue!

Posted 4/24/12 at 10:40am by jamie

I stayed away from the Hillary Rosen/Ann Romney made up controversy last week, but the latest from Queen Ann really has me going. Last night, while speaking at the Connecticut Republican Party’s Prescott Bush Awards Dinner, Ann made the following comment:

Romney alluded to the fact that not all women can stay at home saying, “I love the fact that there are women out there who don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids. Thank goodness that we value those people too. And sometimes life isn’t easy for any of us.”

She "loves this"? I guess she also loves the fact that there are women out there who struggle to even feed their children, or give them medical care, school needs, clothing, etc.?

But this is how the Republican Party thinks. A few years ago Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga) talked how mothers and fathers should work 2-3 jobs each if they have trouble surviving, then a couple of weeks later complained because Nancy Pelosi was making the House work 5 days. His complaint? Family time.

So if you enjoy working non-stop, getting to spend no time with your kids and living pay check to pay check, go ahead and vote Republican. It's obvious that's the American dream to this bunch of clowns.

Voting Without Knowledge

Posted 4/16/12 at 1:30pm by jamie

In a democracy the people are expected to select their leaders. In order to do that the people need information. They need to know what kind of leader that person will be and what kind of policies they will put forth.

A major problem with Mitt Romney is that he never gets into the specifics of policies. This problem isn't only talked about amongst Democrats, but also Republicans.

But today we have further proof that the people running to lead our nation don't care about the knowledge voters have. Not only that, but it also exemplifies that we don't have a democracy, but an auction:

In a speech to donors in the backyard of a private home here, the former Massachusetts governor and presumptive GOP presidential nominee outlined his plans to potentially eliminate or consolidate federal agencies, win back Latino voters and reform the nation's tax code.

And even Ann Romney, the subject of a national debate last week over the role of women in the workplace, was more direct than usual. She sounded like a political tactician when she described a Democratic consultant's criticism of her decision to be a stay-at-home mom as "an early birthday gift."

Romney went into a level of detail not usually seen by the public in the speech, which was overheard by reporters on a sidewalk below. One possibility floated by Romney included the elimination of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Cabinet-level agency once led by Romney's father, George.

So unless you have tons of extra money to donate to a candidate and can attend one of these super high price fundraisers, you really don't need to know about policy, like what departments a President Romney might eliminate in the federal government.

When's Newt Dropping Out?

Posted 4/11/12 at 10:33am by jamie

Newt Gingrich says he will stay in the race all the way to the National Convention, but his finances might dictate otherwise:

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich might fail to appear on the Utah primary ballot after a check for the required filing fee bounced, according to media reports.

The check for $500 bounced on March 27, Utah state election director Mark Thomas told ABC News, which first reported the story.

"Our office immediately attempted to contact the campaign and the designated agent but no phone calls were returned,” said Thomas, according to ABC.

Personal responsibility anyone? If Newt can't manage the finances of his own campaign, how can we expect him to handle the finances of our nation? I got a feeling that's a question the Romney campaign will be asking.

GOP War On Women Backlash

Posted 4/2/12 at 9:40am by jamie

It looks like the GOP's attempts to paint women as irresponsible nitwits that have no idea about their own reproductive health is really starting to pay off - for President Obama:

In the fifth Swing States survey taken since last fall, Obama leads Republican front-runner Mitt Romney 51%-42% among registered voters just a month after the president had trailed him by two percentage points.

The biggest change came among women under 50. In mid-February, just under half of those voters supported Obama. Now more than six in 10 do while Romney's support among them has dropped by 14 points, to 30%. The president leads him 2-1 in this group.

This is a huge shift and to show the gender gap now present:

Romney's main advantage is among men 50 and older, swamping Obama 56%-38%.

And it looks like Women are really abandoning the GOP as a whole:

While women typically are more likely to identify themselves as Democrats than men are, that difference widens to a chasm in the USA TODAY poll. By 41%-24%, women call themselves Democrats; men by 27%-25% say they're Republicans.

But I'm sure they don't know what they are talking about. They are just a bunch of dumb broads after all. Or that's at least what I'm sure the Republican brains are saying in a backroom somewhere.

Rick's Slip

Posted 3/30/12 at 10:00am by jamie

While speaking to a rally at Janesville, Wisconsin yesterday, Rick Santorum almost made a slip that sounds like it maybe the worst of racial slurs:

Transcript:

"We know, we know the candidate Barack Obama, what he was like. The anti-war government nig- uh, the uh America was a source for division around the world."

So what do you think? Did Rick almost call the President of the United States the N-word? It sure sounds like it and I can't think of much else that would fit in there.

Common Man Romney

Posted 3/27/12 at 11:27am by jamie

Mitt Romney is building a new home and it sounds so much like the everyday home we find here in middle America:

At Mitt Romney’s proposed California beach house, the cars will have their own separate elevator.

There’s also a planned outdoor shower and a 3,600-square foot basement — a room with more floor space than the existing home’s entire living quarters.

Those are just some of the amenities planned for the massive renovation of the Romneys’ home in the tony La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, according to plans on file with the city.

YES - the car elevator! I personally have two and a car escalator just in case of emergencies.

Then there's this other feature we all share:

A project this ambitious comes with another feature you don’t always find with the typical fixer-upper: its own lobbyist, hired by Romney to push the plan through the approval process.

Actually Romney might not be as well off as we all think. I don't see anything about a special elevator for his lobbyist. I thought everyone had one of those?

But I really hope the Mittster treats that lobbyist right so that he can get the ball rolling. I would hate to think of the Romney clan having to suffer through much more time at their $10 million shack in New Hampshire.

Santorum Implodes: "It's Bullsh*t"

Posted 3/26/12 at 9:35am by jamie

Rick Santorum had a very, very, very bad day:

In directing what appeared to be a new level of vitriol toward Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum on Sunday described his rival as "the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama." Santorum later, however, bristled at the notion that he was referring to anything other than Romney's position on health care.

After a rally at the South Hills Country Club here, Santorum asked Republicans to "pick any other Republican in the country" than GOP presidential front-runner Romney, based on issues that make the former Massachusetts governor "uniquely disqualified" to run against Obama.

Reporters swarmed him for clarification, only to have Santorum testily reply that it was unreasonable to take his comment outside the context of health care.

This is a typical politician response; they say something they know will come back to bite them and then claim it was taken out of context. Sometimes they can pull it off, but in this case Rick did nothing but make the matter worse:

Mitt Romney Wanted Higher Gas Prices

Posted 3/22/12 at 1:58pm by jamie

This man really doesn't know where he stands:

At moments, Romney went so far as to make high gas prices out to be a welcome reality for the foreseeable future, one that people needed to learn to live with. When lieutenant governor Kerry Healey, a fellow Republican, called for suspending the state’s 23.5 cent gas tax during a price spike in May 2006, Romney rejected the idea, saying it would only further drive up gasoline consumption. “I don’t think that now is the time, and I’m not sure there will be the right time, for us to encourage the use of more gasoline,” Romney said, according to the Quincy Patriot Ledger’s report at the time. “I’m very much in favor of people recognizing that these high gasoline prices are probably here to stay.”

Of course Romney has been out on the campaign trail the past couple of weeks accusing President Obama of wanting higher gas prices.

These people really have no idea where they stand or what they stand for. Time to shake that Etch-a-Sketch again!

Truth In Politics? Romney Adviser Inadvertently Admits The Biggest Problem

Posted 3/21/12 at 2:35pm by jamie

Mitt Romney Communications Director Eric Fehrnstrom, appearing on CNN, was asked about his candidate moving to the far right and possibly alienating some of the more independent supporters. Here's what he said:

HOST: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.

Think Progress has the video from this exchange.

Welcome to the problem of politics that all American's know about. The fact that candidates now admit they don't believe what they say; that they are willing to say anything to get the vote, is a serious issue facing America. No one ever knows exactly what their candidate is going to do once in office, and once they do assume their elected position they will try and do everything to make you feel crazy for thinking they stood for something else.

And while this issue plagues all sides of the political spectrum, it has been most obvious in Mitt Romney. This man has constantly flip-flopped on issues. That's also why President Obama will have an easy time beating him. Even Republican voters would be willing to vote for Obama over Romney simply because they know what they are getting with Obama, but Romney will be a serious gamble. Fehrnstrom just reaffirmed that fear with many in the GOP. I'm sure Obama is thanking him right now.

America's Biggest Problem!

Posted 3/16/12 at 1:03pm by jamie

PORN!

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum says that “America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography” because the Obama administration favors “pornographers over children.”

In an undated statement on his official website, the former Pennsylvania senator promises that he will “vigorously” fight to make sure porn isn’t easily available in the U.S.

“Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships,” the statement says. “It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.”

“Current federal ‘obscenity’ laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier,” the statement continues, adding that these laws should be “vigorously enforced.”

The GOP constantly talks about rights, freedoms and personal responsibility, yet they want to turn this into a nanny state over things they morally object too. They are the biggest bunch of fucking nannies to ever walk the planet and their hypocrisy reeks through and through.

And what about real problems, Rick? What about the economy, terrorism, millions of Americans and children starving and without affordable healthcare? You don't give a rat's ass about any of that; just your moral crap. Sorry but I won't take morality lessons from someone who sleeps with a dead baby.

Santorum Blames Gas Prices On The 2008 Recession

Posted 2/28/12 at 12:53pm by jamie

We now have a new reason why the economy collapsed in 2008:

—Rick Santorum sharpened his attack on President Barack Obama over rising gas prices, saying high energy prices caused the 2008 recession.

"We went into a recession in 2008 because of gasoline prices," Santorum told a packed hotel ballroom of supporters. "The bubble burst in housing because people couldn’t pay their mortgages because of $4 a gallon gasoline," he added.

Santorum accused Obama of advocating for higher gas prices to protect the environment.

"He actually believes this is a good thing for America, I don't," he said. "We are not here to serve the earth, but to be stewards of the earth."

And how does this lying, fear mongering, sack of crap defend his comment?

Asked about his comment after his speech, Santorum said "they were spiking in 2008, that's a fact," then he shrugged.

Yes they did spike in 2008 and contrary to the belief of many Republicans, George Bush was President then. Also when Democrats warned of the economy collapsing during that time, Republicans quickly called them fear mongers. How did that end up working out?

But the truth is that Rick Santorum is showing exactly why he is not capable of being President. To lie about the very reason that the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression occurred is just asking for it to happen again. We are supposed to learn from history or risk repeating it. The GOP seems to constantly forget that.

Letting The Terrorists Win

Posted 2/27/12 at 9:56pm by jamie

One Republican presidential hopeful today:

Newt Gingrich said it is impossible to “fix” Afghanistan and suggested the U.S. should to tell Afghan citizens to “figure out how to live your own miserable life.”

Speaking at a Republican luncheon here on Monday, Mr. Gingrich amped up his criticism of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan after a string of attacks by Afghan soldiers on American troops. ”We’re not going to fix Afghanistan,” the former House speaker said. “It’s not possible.”

His prescription:”What you have to do is say, ‘You know, you’re going to have to figure out how to live your own miserable life… Because you clearly don’t want to learn from me how to be unmiserable.’”

So we can't "fix" Afghanistan? What kind of message does that send to our troops fighting over there and the families of our fallen soldiers?

It sounds like Newt is wanting to cut and run. Wouldn't this give a clear message to the terrorists that they have won?

Now do I believe these notions? Absolutley not. I am simply repeating the very same lines of attack that the Republicans used against anyone who questioned our involvement in Iraq or Afghanistan. This was the sickening way that the Republicans used war to divide our country and now they are sitting on the other side of the fence. Even worse is that it comes from a bunch of chickenhawks, who did anything possible to get out of putting on the uniform.

Yup - here you have today's GOP.

Democracy Is Dead, Long Live The Auction!

Posted 2/21/12 at 9:59am by jamie

The Mayans could very well be wrong that 2012 will be the end of the world, but one thing that has failed to exist this year is our democracy. Instead it is being transformed into an auction, going to the highest bidder. Leading this race to extinction is casino mogul Sheldon Adelson:

Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, the 78-year-old CEO of casino giant Las Vegas Sands, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice.

Adelson has been pumping millions in the failed Gingrich campaign this cycle and now he's willing to take off the gloves and go all in with up to $100 million. But why is he doing this? Well we have the right wing boogieman showing his head again:
