New Ricin Arrest - A Republican And Suspected Child Molester

Posted 4/27/13 at 1:02pm by jamie

The FBI has made a new arrest in the case of ricin letters sent to a U.S. Senator and the President. The charges come just days after charges against a previous subject, Paul Kevin Curtis, were dropped:

A spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed J. Everett Dutschke, the man at the center of the investigation into ricin-tainted letters sent to President Barack Obama and other officials, was arrested at his home in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

"James Everett Dutschke was arrested, without incident, at his residence in Tupelo, MS, at approximately 12:50 a.m. Saturday, April 27, by Special Agents of the FBI," Deborah Madden, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Jackson, Mississippi field office told Talking Points Memo.

When Curtis was arrested the right instantly went into the "OMG he's a Democrat" meme. Looking at the Facebook page of Curtis, it appears this is the case. But as you may recall, some big name rightwing bloggers continued to hound Curtis, even after being released. They even went as far as saying he actually committed the crime, without the man ever being charged.

But who is Dutschke? Well he is a taekwondo instructor, a musician in a blues band and a former Republican candidate for office.

Oh yeah, and the man is also out on charges of child molestation (or convicted if you go by the Jim Hoft standards of journalism).

Did I miss anything?

Wait. It also appears that Dutschke may have set-up Curtis in this case.

Yes, we have a Republican here, who may have sexually assaulted children as well as tried to frame and innocent person, and the wingnuts go silent! I guess this is part of the family values platform.

Wingnut Bloggers Have Already Convicted Paul Kevin Curtis

Posted 4/23/13 at 3:43pm by jamie

Innocent until proven guilty? Apparently that doesn't apply to the maniacs of the right, where they have already convicted Paul Kevin Curtis of sending the ricin laced letters. As I previously reported, the FBI has released Curtis and now the possibility of him being framed has surfaced. There are even reports that a former Mississippi Republican candidate may now be involved.

But that hasn't stopped right wing bloggers from their erroneous headlines. Here's Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit:

And over at the Right Scoop:

While Curtis has been charged, he has not been convicted, as these headlines suggest. I hope that Curis' lawyer, Christi McCoy, notices these headlines and proceeds legally. No one has the right to convict someone without due process.

Ricin Suspect Released. Possible Framed??

Posted 4/23/13 at 2:34pm by jamie

Paul Kevin Curtis, who was arrested last week for sending ricin laced letters to President Obama and Senator Wicker, has been released from custody:

Jeff Woodfin, chief deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service in Oxford, Miss., said suspect Paul Kevin Curtis has been released from custody, though Woodfin said he doesn't know if there were any conditions on the release.

The development comes less than two hours after officials canceled a detention and preliminary hearing without explaining the reason for the change.

His lawyer Christi McCoy, who has been pushing for the charges to be dropped, said in a text message Tuesday that she could only confirm that her client has been released.

And now there is the suggestion that Curtis may have been framed:

McCoy said in court that someone may have framed Curtis, suggesting that a former business associate of Curtis' brother, a man with whom Curtis had an extended exchange of angry emails, may have set him up.

When news broke of Curtis being the suspect, the right quickly jumped on what appeared to be his liberal leanings. But something seemed weird about the entire thing. I couldn't finger it, but the whole story just seemed off. Now it appears my suspicions may have been right.

Why I'm Thankful Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Was Taken Alive

Posted 4/22/13 at 11:41am by jamie

The 19 year old Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured alive Friday night. While he had sustained some major injuries, thankfully he is still alive and now answering questions through writing:

The 19-year-old suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, who was seriously wounded and unable to speak, is awake and responding in writing to questions from authorities, according to tweets by ABC and NBC news networks.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is in the intensive care unit of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is responding sporadically, the ABC news network reported on its Twitter feed.

NBC's Pete Williams is also reporting Tsarnaev is writing answers to questions from law enforcement.

I saw and heard so many people upset that the suspect was still alive, instead wishing that the police would have just killed him. But we live in a world of terrorism, where intelligence is the best key. The best place to gain that intelligence is through captured suspects we can question. It's really hard to question someone once they are dead.

So I am thankful we were able to capture Tsarnaev and not kill him. We may be able to get information from him to prevent the next attack, which could be much larger. We may also find out motive and connections, which can lead to a much larger picture.

Sure we want to see the worst happen to a monster that can so easily kill and injure so many innocent people, but we also want to stop this from happening in the future. Hopefully law enforcement gains lots of valuable information from him. After that, give him a trial and let him face the death penalty, but not until we use him for everything we can.

Now they are saying no arrest has been made and Boston Police just sent out this tweet

Sounds like another day of "no one knowing".

The GOP's Sugar Daddy Admits Possible Violation of an Antibribery Law

Posted 3/4/13 at 11:06am by jamie

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson spent an estimated $150 million last year in campaign contributions to help Mitt Romney and other Republicans around the country win elections. Now, in a new filing with the SEC, it turns out that's not all Adelson spent money on:

In its annual regulatory report, filed with the commission on Friday, the Sands reported that its audit committee and independent accountants had determined that “there were likely violations of the books and records and internal controls provisions” of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

The disclosure comes amid an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation into the company’s business activities in China.

It is the company’s first public acknowledgment of possible wrongdoing. Ron Reese, a spokesman for the Sands, declined to comment further.

This is the first admission of possible guilt by Adelson's company in an investigation that goes back years. Adelson began a big push in China over a decade ago and that caught the eye of investigators.

But in 2010 something big happened. Steven C. Jacobs was fired from his job as President of the company's operations in Macau. He then filed a wrongful termination suit, which alleges he was pressured to engage in improper leverage against foreign officials. In the same suit Jacobs also alleges that the company turned a blind eye to China's organized crime.

Thank You Sir, May I Have Another!

We all know that our prison population is growing out of control, yet nothing is being done. Well leave it to a Republican to come up with a most awesome alternative to incarceration - spankings:

A Montana Republican state lawmaker wants to give criminals the option of choosing “corporal punishment in lieu of incarceration.” According to Think Progress, the legislation is being proposed by Rep. Jerry O’Neil and would apply not just to misdemeanor crimes, but to some felonies as well.

The law states that “(f)or purposes of this section, ‘corporal punishment’ means the infliction of physical pain on a defendant to carry out the sentence negotiated between the judge and the defendant.” The law states that the exact nature of that pain shall be “commensurate with the severity, nature, and degree of the harm caused by the offender.”

The proposed law stipulates that the punishment shall be carried out by local sheriffs if the defendant is avoiding jail time or corrections personnel if the defendant is choosing the option to stay out of state prison.

What could possible go wrong here? Well, save the deviants who actually enjoy pain and will break the law just to get their tushys whipped.

Anonymous Stands Up For The Victim In Alleged Ohio Gang Rape

Posted 1/3/13 at 10:20am by jamie

When an Indian woman was gang raped and murdered last week it drew national attention here in the U.S., as well as much deserved outrage. However when a 16 year old girl was allegedly gang raped by fellow students in an eastern Ohio town last summer, there was no national outrage. National coverage didn't even occur until last month, when the New York Times wrote about it.

First here's a little background on the story. Steubenville, Ohio is located about an hour west of Pittsburgh on the Ohio/West Virginia border. It's a typical town in eastern Ohio that has a rapidly dying economy from the closing of steel mills. Live in the town revolves around Big Red, their high school football team that has won that state title 9 times and even produced some NFL players.

At a big, end of summer party last August many of the residents, including the football team got together. At that party two players from the football team allegedly carried an unconscious 16 year old girl by her ankles and wrists and proceeded to rape her as others watched on. They later dropped the girl off in front of her parents house.

The incident also wasn't kept secret. While the crimes were going on numerous other party goers took to social media, joking about what was happening and posting pictures and videos with captions like "rape".

The two students have been arrested and charged, but controversy is still happening. So far a judge and prosecutor had to recuse themselves from the case. There are also reports of lot of other "connections" that are helping out the perpetrators instead of the victim. The Atlantic has a great rundown of this.

New York Paper To List More Gun Owners

Posted 12/29/12 at 7:04pm by jamie

Last week a newspaper in New York created a huge uproar when it published a list of registered gun owners in a two county area. The information was legally obtained through a Freedom of Information request and now another county is being added to the list.

Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood," the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

The next batch of names will be permit holders in suburban Putnam County, New York, where the county clerk told the newspaper it is still compiling information.

Of course the right is still going bat shit crazy over this, declaring it a "violation of rights", despite the fact that information is 100% legally obtained and not protected under any privacy clause.

But I got thinking, then I got into doing some Googling. Here's something I found:

12/12/12 - Boy shoots dead friend, 12, with his grandfather's gun while playing after school at his home

Massacre In Newtown

Posted 12/15/12 at 2:41pm by jamie

As all of you, I too have been in total shock over what happened in Newtown, Connecticut yesterday. Hearing the horror of 26 people, including 20 children ages 5-10 being gunned down in cold blood is sickening. It makes it hard to be "proud" of our nation, especially considering how much this has happened.

I posted on Facebook yesterday that now is the time to talk about what we need to do. I was wrong on that. Instead Ezra hits the nail on the head:

Only with gun violence do we respond to repeated tragedies by saying that mourning is acceptable but discussing how to prevent more tragedies is not. “Too soon,” howl supporters of loose gun laws. But as others have observed, talking about how to stop mass shootings in the aftermath of a string of mass shootings isn’t “too soon.” It’s much too late.

It is much too late. The fact that 20 children will never grow up now because we are too afraid to talk about gun control, like every other modern nation has, speaks volume to the idiocy that governs this nation and helps pick our leaders.

We are hearing stories like this all too often anymore. Gun control isn't the only topic of debate though. We need to figure out what drives our people to commit such atrocities. We need to debate the mental health system of this country, the very system that started being eroded just a few short years before Columbine.

What indicators do we miss on these people? In a time when most of our thoughts and views are expressed openly in social media, how is it that we don't see things like this coming?

Halloween Horror! 9 Year Old Girl Shot

Posted 10/22/12 at 10:55am by jamie

Remember during the last Presidential Election, when Barack Obama said that people in the small towns of Pennsylvania "cling to their guns". You should. It has been making a comeback lately.

Well now it looks like the President was correct and the effects are sad:

Police say a costumed 9-year-old girl was accidentally shot outside a western Pennsylvania home during a Halloween party by a relative who thought she was a skunk.

New Sewickley Township police say the girl was over a hillside and wearing a black costume and a black hat with a white tassel. Chief Ronald Leindecker told the Beaver County Times that a male relative mistook her for a skunk and fired a shotgun, hitting her in the shoulder, arm, back and neck Saturday night.

Leindecker told the newspaper that the girl was alert and talking when she was flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, about 30 miles away. Her condition was unavailable.

Leindecker says the man hadn't been drinking and he doesn't know whether charges will be filed. New Sewickley police said Sunday that decision will be made in a few days.

An innocent child, wearing a Halloween costume, and now her Halloween, as well as every other one that follows, is ruined. Sure it may have just been an "accident", but responsibility should be the key here. The shooter should have taken the responsibility to know exactly who or what his target was.

Disgusting!

Supreme Court Sneak Peek: You Own It, But Can You Sell It?

Posted 10/8/12 at 8:51am by jamie

This Fall, the Supreme Court will be taking up a case that can really affect all of us. The case will determine if you actually have the right to sell a used product that was made or contains parts from overseas:

At issue in Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons is the first-sale doctrine in copyright law, which allows you to buy and then sell things like electronics, books, artwork and furniture, as well as CDs and DVDs, without getting permission from the copyright holder of those products.

Under the doctrine, which the Supreme Court has recognized since 1908, you can resell your stuff without worry because the copyright holder only had control over the first sale.

Put simply, though Apple Inc. AAPL -0.62% has the copyright on the iPhone and Mark Owen has it on the book “No Easy Day,” you can still sell your copies to whomever you please whenever you want without retribution.

That’s being challenged now for products that are made abroad, and if the Supreme Court upholds an appellate court ruling, it would mean that the copyright holders of anything you own that has been made in China, Japan or Europe, for example, would have to give you permission to sell it.

So if a product contains any foreign made parts, then you can be caught up by this. Want to sell your used Chevy or Ford? Well there are a lot of parts in those "America" made vehicles that come from overseas, so selling your used car, or even trading it in, can now make you a criminal.

Having a yard sale and want to get that old TV out of the basement? Better not sell it without permission from the manufacturer.

And what will this do to services like EBay or Craig's List? Copyright trolls would have a field day going after people selling products on the popular auction sites.

GOP Congressional Staffer Accused Of Assaulting Lindsay Lohan

Posted 9/30/12 at 8:09pm by jamie

These guys really get around:

Lindsay Lohan told police she was assaulted in her Manhattan hotel room early Sunday morning by a man she met at a night club, police sources said.

According to law enforcement officials, Lohan told police she got into an argument with a 25-year-old man she brought to her room after meeting him 1 Oak in Chelsea.

The argument was allegedly over photos the man took of Lohan on his cell phone while they were in her 15th floor room at the W Hotel near Union Square with some of Lohan's friends

[SNIP]

LaBella was initially charged Sunday afternoon with assault and harassment, but after further investigation police dropped the assault charge. LaBella has since filed a harassment complaint against Lohan.

According to his YouTube page, LaBella ran for president of his business fraternity at the University of San Diego and was a child actor. In police paperwork, LaBella listed his employer as Illinois Congressman John Shimkus.

“While no one from Congressman Shimkus’ office has been contacted by Mr. LaBella following his arrest, he has been an employee in the Congressman’s Washington office," a spokesman for Rep. Shimkus said in a statement Sunday. "Obviously, the Congressman does not condone his actions. As this is a legal matter for Mr. LaBella, the Congressman nor his office will make further comment.”

It pretty much goes with the entire platform for the GOP when it comes to women...

Pushing The Fear!

In a week where al Qaeda has been back on the tip of everyone's tongue, comes news of bomb threats shutting down the University of Texas:

The University of Texas has evacuated all campus building after receiving phoned-in threat that multiple bombs had been placed on campus. Officials say no bombs have been found.

An alert posted shortly before 10 a.m. Friday says people on campus should immediately evacuate all buildings and "get as far away as possible."

And right on queue, here is Drudge:

So how does this get tied to al Qaeda? Well from the article that Drudge links:

The University of Texas is evacuating all of its buildings due to threats on campus after a caller claiming to be with al-Qaida said he placed bombs all over campus that would go off around 10 a.m. -- which has since passed.

Yeah, because al Qaeda always calls in threats before one of their attacks.

Sounds more like some lunatic out there trying to spark more outrage towards the Middle East.

$2 Per Day For Miners!

Posted 9/5/12 at 11:18am by jamie

Here's a person that Mitt Romney could get behind:

The world’s most wealthy woman is warning that firms are in danger of having to abandon iron-ore mining in Australia if wages are not cut, pointing out that African miners are “willing to work for less than $2 per day.”

In a video recently posted on the Sydney Mining Club website, 58-year-old Gina Rinehart — who has amassed a $18 billion fortune through iron-ore prospecting — said that Australia could be more competitive by emulating Africa.

This is how out of touch the mega-rich people are. Sure African miners work for $2 day, but aren't there lots of starving people in Africa? How much of the world's money is sent to Africa to help feed these people too? Is Rinehart suggesting this for the people of Australia now?

Of course Rinehart is one of those entitled people. She became so rich the old fashion way - she inherited it! This lady doesn't know the meaning of a hard day's work and has a massive disconnect with the remaining 99.9% of the world. She is the female version of Scrooge.
