Bush wastes money on all kinds of shit so in order to combat that, the Republicans need to go after PBS and NPR again:

House Republicans yesterday revived their efforts to slash funding for public broadcasting, as a key committee approved a $115 million reduction in the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that could force the elimination of some popular PBS and NPR programs.

On a party-line vote, the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees health and education funding approved the cut to the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which distributes money to the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio. It would reduce the corporation’s budget by 23 percent next year, to $380 million, in a cut that Republicans said was necessary to rein in government spending.

The reduction, which would come in the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, must be approved by the full Appropriations Committee, and then the full House and Senate, before it could take effect. Democrats and public broadcasting advocates began planning efforts to reverse the cut.

PBS is one of the few great things we have left in America. These bible thumping Republicans want to get rid of that which will force more children to watch the crap cartoons on regular television instead of the educational programs on PBS. Of course in the delusional minds of the GOP every family has cable and a stay at home parent. This is the reality of how the GOP thinks and the key example of how out of touch they are with the American people.

I watch PBS regularly. I don’t know about you, but to me network television sucks ass anymore. All the programs are garbage and they promise to fill us with more garbage this fall – that is more “reality programs”. Screw that. I prefer sitting here and watching shows like Nova or Nature over that garbage, plus I learn something, and no one is to old to learn.

This is getting to be a constant battle and nothing will change until there is a change in leadership in Congress. Even if you don’t care for the Democrats that much, at least they try to keep important programs like this going.
