Making America More Stupid, One Wink At A Time

I’m sure by now everyone has heard how Sarah Palin claimed that Paul Revere’s famous ride was to warn the British. Well now she is trying to claim that she was okity-dokity on her claims:

“You realize that you messed up about Paul Revere, don’t you?” “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace asked the potential 2012 presidential candidate.

“I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere,” replied Palin, a paid contributor to the network.

“Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have,” she added. “He did warn the British.”

As Bob Cesca points out, everyone here was British at that time (well except the Indians, but I’ll let you slide on that one Bob).

But lust trumps stupidity, so Palin’s cult of followers is taking to her defense. Not only are they trying to rewrite Wikipedia, but they are also writing op-eds. The only problem here is that Andrew Malcom, author of the op-ed in today’s LA Times, apparently didn’t touch base with Sarah to get the stories straight:

..the British were coming. Less known, obviously, is the rest of the evening’s events in which Revere was captured by said redcoats and did indeed defiantly warn them of the awakened militia awaiting their arrival ahead and of the American Revolution’s inevitable victory.

Palin knew this. The on-scene reporters did not and ran off like Revere to alert the world to Palin’s latest mis-speak, which wasn’t.

No Andrew – Sarah clarified to say that Revere was riding to warn the British, in some nonsensical way that “you won’t beat us”. She even said that yesterday and the fact that you are now trying to make-up an excuse for her idiotic blunder puts you right in the same category as her.

This constant attempt by the American right to rewrite history to fit their agendas or mistakes is getting ridiculous. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, but when you try to make America as stupid as you just to cover up your mistake, then you are looking even more idiotic. Take responsibility and say “oops – my bad” instead of trying to dumb everyone down to your level.
