WASHINGTON -RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement
regarding today's announcement by special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.
"Scooter Libby is a good and capable man who has given many years of his
life to serve our nation. Mr. Libby is entitled to his day in court to
answer the charges against him, receive a full airing of all the facts and
is innocent until proven otherwise.
"While some Democrats have acted irresponsibly in regards to this matter
from the beginning, the President and Republicans in Congress have and will
continue to focus on the American people's priorities: strengthening the
economy, winning the War on Terror, lowering energy costs and improving our
