Now Mitt Romney Insults David Petraeus

The Mittster is now claiming John McCain came up with the whole surge.

So why do these Republicans show such little respect for David Petraeus, and why don't the wingnuts who were pushing for Petraeus to run for President come out in his defense? This shows the lack of respect for our military from the right.

I think the statement that somehow Mitt Romney has insulted General Petraeus is taking things out of context.

The way I understood his comments is that John McCain recommended taking a different course after the Iraq invasion (including putting more troops on the ground) than the Rumsfeld/Bush leadership was planning.

This was long before General Petraeus took the job and turned things around, and because it was similar to what Petraeus eventually accomplished, it is anything but being insulting. If McCains proposal had been adopted at the time it was offered it probably wouldn't have been called a "Surge" but it would have had the same effect of bringing in reinforcements and stabilizing the country.
