Can you pick out the highest impact headline

  1. Porn Sites May Get .XXX Suffix
  2. ‘Runaway bride’ gets probation
  3. President Was Waging War Before Congressional Authorization
  4. Photographer Crashes Into Lindsay Lohan

If you picked number three, then congratulations. And for your prize, you get
a Nation filled with news medias that will pick the remaining headlines as their
own.

It is a disappointing fact that our nation has fallen into the crave for
‘tabloid’ style headlines. With pop stars on trial, brides running from their
future husbands, and new involving pornography taking the grand stand in our
news today. It leaves you with a sense that the news media is acting like our
father, protecting us little Americans from the harsh reality that is out there
in the world. I mean if we had to face up to headlines that could implicate the
President in a scandal to wage war for false reasons, we might just break down.
We are a fragile people and thankfully we have the media giants to protect us
from stories our simple, tender minds could not handle hearing.

In fact the first amendment to our Constitution is close to non existent.
While we still have the freedom of speech and the freedom of press, the press is
scared to exercise that right, or face a sentence far worse than being detained
at Gitmo. God have mercy on them for reporting what would once be considered
‘news’. If a member of the media has the audacity to report on something that
could be construed as negative press towards our White House, then they will be
labeled with that treasonous term of “LIBERAL”.

OH NO the ‘L’ word. Liberal has become one of the most destructive adjectives in todays english language. If one of the major news networks would get tagged with that adjective, it could
lead to a plummet of ratings. The scared people of America, instead of listening
to the story, would turn it off because as we all have learned as children; “if
we don’t see it, then it doesn’t exist”.

The truth is that it does exist. The Downing Street Memo is out there and is
being covered by brave news outlets such as The Nation. There is news truly worthy of
mentioning, but the major new medias feel they still need to protect us. They
are hoping that by shielding us from such horrible headlines as “The President
May Have Violated The Constitution”, that they can keep us under a blanket of
security with tabloid style headlines. If we dont hear these headlines, then
people won’t pay attention to them and the story will go away.

The sad part is the story is not going away. Enough brave Americans refuse to
let it die. We are the ones that want our country to redeem its self as one of
the most respected nations in the world. We need to hold accountable those that
have destroyed this nations standing in the world community.

The Downing Street Memo is not just an American issue, it is an international
issue. We need to prove to the rest of the world that when our leaders act
inappropriately, we hold them accountable. The President has refused to answer to this
memo, which implies a level of guilt surrounding it. He is doing what the news
media does; If we don’t see it, then it doesn’t exist.

This memo does exist. It is posted on the world wide web for people from all
nations to see. It is in the news of other countries and people do want answers.
We need to know if the war in Iraq was truly a personal agenda. Other countries
should not stand by and let the American people ignore this issue. If we were
able to manipulate intelligence to gain support for an invasion of Iraq, then
any other country could be next. This is the fear that is steering leaders such
as Kim Jong-il and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. to stand up and oppose us. We have
shown that we will do whatever is necessary to invade a country we don’t agree
with, even if it means lying to our own citizens and allies. In a sense, we have
made these leaders become the powerful scary men they are today.

The sad truth is that we are only keeping the facts surrounding the Downing
Street Memo alive by using the internet. If there was a universal delete key, I
am sure that President Bush would have pushed it by now and deleted every trace
of the memo off of the internet. But sadly the internet is not enough. This memo
needs to be covered over and over again by the major news networks, the same way
they provided continuous coverage of a bride running from her husband. People
need to be made aware of the facts regarding this memo, and the President needs
to answer for it. Even if you voted for George Bush in 2004, you should still
expect him to answer to it, either to clear his name or be held accountable. The
people of this country elect the President, and he answers to us, the same way
as an employer hires an employee and that employee must answer to him. George
Bush is our employee and now must answer to his employers.

So I give this challenge to all the people out there. Don’t be afraid of the
true news. It is not that evil. It is just a sign of what needs to be fixed to
make our country great. Citizens of America, now is the time to stray away from
the protective arms of Fox News. Papa CNN has shielded you long enough, and
mother MSNBC has done her job protecting her fragile children of the country. Go
out and face the true world. Become the men and women your true parents wanted
you to be, and don’t hide behind the security of propaganda, tabloid style news
anymore. If you face the harsh reality of the news, you will have a better
understanding of your nation and what is going on, and you will realize that you
are a better person because of it. This is how we get the respect back that our nation once held. We show the rest of the world that we are a nation of strong men and women who believe in liberty and democracy, and more importantly, accountability in our government.

James Madison said, “The advancement and diffusion of
knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.”. So I urge you to gain the
knowledge of what is going on in the world, no matter how brutal or harsh, and
use that knowledge to guard our liberties.
