Time's Peek Into The 2006 Elections

If one thing is for certain in the uncertain world of politics, it is that 2006 is going to be the year to watch. Republicans have definitely fumbled the ball during the 109th session of Congress and not only Democrats, but also a majority of the public is awaiting someone to pick that ball up and run with it.

Time Magazine published an article today showing how bad it is for Republicans this year. Just look at this byline to the article:

If the midterm elections were held today, top strategists of both parties say privately, the Republicans would probably lose the 15 seats they need to keep control of the House of Representatives

That right there should be enough to make the right wing bloggers go off their “defend Ben” campaign and start fighting for something they believe in. If that isn’t enough then here is another nice little snip from the same article:

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who masterminded the 1994 elections that brought Republicans to power on promises of revolutionizing the way Washington is run, told Time that his party has so bungled the job of governing that the best campaign slogan for Democrats today could be boiled down to just two words: “Had enough?”

Thank you Newt (and I never thought I would say that). Actually the message that Newt is giving there is the same message that the Democrats ran on in 2004. We saw into the future and new what a mess this country would become under Republican leadership. We understood that after 8 years of Regan and 4 years of Bush 41 that it took Clinton to come in and make some good changes. Those changes netted a balance budget.

Now here we are on year 6 of Bush and the country is far worse off than it was under Reagan and daddy. His favorite defense is the blame game. Everything caused our budget to get where it is today. Nothing boils down to his piss-poor management skills.

To make matters even worse, the Republicans in Congress ignore this poor management. It is not like they don’t get made aware of it. Hell turn on the TV or listen to the members of Congress on the other side of the aisle. When they here complaints though, they also turn to excuses. One big excuse is “they are playing politics”. Well guess what you dumb shits – it is politics and everyone plays it. That does not give you a reason to ignore the problems.

This year we either need to take back Congress or just give up. Actually if the Republicans stay in control this year, then I say we just divide the country. One half red and one half blue – each side gets their own government. Give that about 10 years and we will see which side is still standing. My guess is blue.
