Court Martial Time

Posted 5/4/09 at 2:09pm by jamie

From the HuffPo:

In a video obtained by Al Jazeera and broadcast Monday, Lieutenant-Colonel Gary Hensley, the chief of the US military chaplains in Afghanistan, is seen telling soldiers that as followers of Jesus Christ, they all have a responsibility "to be witnesses for him."

"The special forces guys - they hunt men basically. We do the same things as Christians, we hunt people for Jesus. We do, we hunt them down," he says.

"Get the hound of heaven after them, so we get them into the kingdom. That's what we do, that's our business."

Here’s the video of this idiot saying idiotic things in a dangerous place during a dangerous war:

Remember the thing when Bush said “we are going to conduct a crusade”? Most people brushed it off as some silly bushism. Well guess what? It wasn’t…

Oh That Republican Spin

Posted 7/17/07 at 8:50am by jamie

I read the first paragraph of this AP article and my head started spinning:

Republicans dismissed as political theater a Democratic plan for an all-night session of the Senate to debate President Bush's military strategy in Iraq amid bipartisan proposals to redeploy U.S. troops.

So actually having a debate  on how to end a war that has killed 3,600 of our own soldiers is "political theater"? If that is political theater, then what do you call this?

We have lost over 3,400 soldiers since this act of "political theater".

How about a bunch of GOP senators arguing and fighting to give the "surge" time, only to say it isn't working a month later? These people are up for re-election and that makes it one very disgusting example of "political theater".

How about Mitch McConnell filibustering every piece of legislation that comes out of the Democrats? That isn't just "political theater", that is obstructionism - especially when the same McConnell complained about the Democrats threatening one filibuster on a judge.

If these Republicans don't want to do their job and debate, then they need to just leave the Senate. Debating the war isn't "political theater" to the soldiers over their fighting, nor their families. It isn't "political theater" to the loved ones of the 3,600+ soldiers that have fallen.

New Bin Laden Tape - Not Really "Breaking News".

Posted 6/30/06 at 2:17am by jamie

Now this is really interesting. Last night, this appeared on Brian Ross' Blotter:

A new Osama bin Laden audio is expected to be released within three days. On the tape, bin Laden will talk about the death of Abu Musab Zarqawi. More details to come.

The audio is about 5 minutes in length. This is the fourth time we have heard an audio message from bin Laden this year. The last time we heard from him was following the sentencing of Zacarias Moussaoui for the 9/11 attacks. Bin Laden claimed that he had not assigned Moussaoui to be a part of the attacks.

That tape came 19 days after the sentencing of Moussaoui and was considered a quick turnaround for one of his tapes, which are believed to pass through numerous couriers on their way to Al Jazeera network.

The news of Zarqawi's death came three weeks ago on June 8.

Now we got a breaking news story, that is just coming in:

A 19-minute videotaped message purportedly by Osama bin Laden paying tribute to slain al-Qaida in Iraq chief Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was posted on a Web site Thursday.

The video, released by al-Qaida’s as-Sahab Institute for Media Production, is entitled “Elegizing the martyr of the nation and the Emir of the martyrs, Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi (God bless his soul).”

The taping shows an old still image of bin Laden next to video of al-Zarqawi while the audio of bin Laden's statement is played. The video did not contain any English subtitles, but an Arabic transcript of bin Laden's statement was released.

New Video Of British Hostage In Iraq

Posted 3/7/06 at 4:12pm by Anonymous (not verified)

Details from SKY NEWS

British Hostage Norman Kember

The British hostage Norman Kember has appeared in a silent video released by his kidnappers. The video was made on February 28 - the deadline given by the kidnappers for western governments to meet their demands. The broadcast showed three Christian Peacemaker activists - it is not known where the fourth hostage was.

Commentary on the tape said the men were asking their governments to secure their release.

The group was abducted in Iraq on November 26 and a statement issued by the previously unknown Swords of Righteousness Brigades said the hostages would be executed by the end of February if Iraqi prisoners were not released from jail.

The four workers - two Canadians, an American and a Briton - were last seen in a videotape aired by al Jazeera on January 28.

The new video, aired by al Jazeera, showed the three men sitting in chairs and speaking, although there was no sound.

Mr Kember looked tired, gaunt and had large bags under his eyes.

Those held are Canadians James Loney, 41, and Harmeet Singh Sooden, 32; Tom Fox, 54, of Virginia; and Norman Kember, 74, of London.

The Bin Laden Tape - Fact Or Fiction

Posted 1/27/06 at 2:26pm by jamie

Al Jazeera magazine
(not affiliated with Al Jazeera television) raises the
question of the authenticity of the latest Osama tape.

The audiotapes of OSAMA BIN LADEN have become an important medium between
AL-QAEDA network and the outside world. If authentic, these tapes could
enable BIN LADEN to convey his opinions to his enemies and followers, issue
threats and even claim responsibility for terror attacks carried out by his
group. It is obvious that the usefulness of such tapes cannot be questioned,
but how can people be sure of their origin and authenticity? Little time is
dedicated to such examinations. But an analysis can really influence the way
we judge similar evidence in the future.

There is no reason whatsoever to believe that these audiotapes are
authentic. While they are always followed by reports of scientific voice
analyses, these studies have been invariably done by CIA experts. In fact,
only one occasion was an independent analysis done. And while American
officials were certain of the tape’s authenticity, Swedish scientists were
convinced that it was fake.

Iraq's New Year - More Car Bombs

Posted 1/1/06 at 5:01pm by jamie

It seems like every time we hear someone say the insurgency is fizzling out
then they prove to us they are still alive and well. Last week we heard this
claim:

Washington -- Insurgents in Iraq are showing little capacity to keep up
numerous and persistent attacks, a senior U.S. general in Baghdad says.

At a briefing December 29, Air Force Brigadier General C.D. Alston said
there are three reasons for the diminishing capability of the insurgents to
keep up attacks. The ability of insurgents to wage sustained combat is a key
indicator closely watched by U.S. military forces to determine the enemy's
effectiveness.

Today this is the big headline from Iraq:

13 Car Bombs Wound 20 People Across Iraq

Much like when Cheney made his infamous "last throes" comment about the
insurgency back in the spring, we are once again reminded that they are still
going strong. I highly doubt they just gave up because of the elections last
month. My guess is they slowed down while waiting for the outcome and now that
it is looking pretty solid that the Shia's are going to be in charge, the
insurgency will start up again.

Senator John Cornyn Proves His Hate For America

Posted 12/20/05 at 8:05pm by jamie

To give my readers a better example of how the Republicans feel about your
civil liberties, you just need to look at what was said in Senate today:

“None of your civil liberties matter much after you’re dead,” said
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a former judge and close ally of the president
who sits on the Judiciary Committee.

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), who has led a bipartisan filibuster against
a reauthorization of the Patriot Act, quoted Patrick Henry, an icon of the
American Revolution, in response: “Give me liberty or give me death.”

He called Cornyn’s comments “a retreat from who we are and who we should
be.”

Thank you Senator Cornyn for showing us how much you hate America and
everything it stands for. You hate our freedoms so you attack them. That makes
you the same as Osama Bin Laden. Actually you are worse. He has the nerve to
attack us, you hide in Senate and make such ludicrous statements about our very
liberties.

I bet al Jazeera will play that comment over and over again while they laugh
at how America is not the land of the free anymore. What a nice Christmas
present from the Senator - giving aid to our enemies.

Make America Aware To Her Weakened State

Posted 12/5/05 at 2:25pm by jamie

Yesterday the heads of the 9/11 commission were on Meet the Press and told
Tim Russert that we were not prepared for another attack. This has sparked a
great deal of attention from the media:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is still unprepared for another
inevitable terrorist attack after not doing enough to improve communications
for emergency personnel and bolster security at nuclear plants, the heads of
the former September 11 Commission said on Sunday.

Former commission chairman Thomas Kean said preparing for another attack
has not been a high enough priority for President George W. Bush and
Congress.

"A lot of the things we need to do really to prevent another 9/11 just
simply aren't being done by the president or by the Congress," Kean, the
former Republican governor of New Jersey, said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

This is not new news. This is something we should of been talking about since
Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast and exposed America to its weaknesses. The main
weakness is our lack of preparation.

The defense the President's people have been arguing is that it was the worst
natural disaster in the country's history. I won't argue that, but 9/11 was the
worst attack on this nation also. Katrina should have been treated no different
than a nuclear or chemical attack in a large city. Instead the devastation was
ignored by George Bush. Why is that? Perhaps he thought it would just go away
and not expose our weaknesses.

As Our Ally Parts Ways

Posted 11/27/05 at 3:49pm by jamie

John Bolton is met with even more opposition in the U.N. now. This time he
has lost support for the U.N. reform he has been pushing and the loss this time
is a big one - Great Britain. This from today's

Telegraph
:

Britain has angered John Bolton, America's combative ambassador to the
United Nations, by breaking ranks with him over the need for reform.

The rare public disagreement between the two close allies comes as the
showdown over reforms at the UN's New York headquarters becomes increasingly
acrimonious.

Britain has rebuffed a Bolton move to join him in refusing to pass the
organisation's 2006 budget until member states approve wide-ranging
management reforms.

To the irritation of Mr Bolton, many developing nations are bitterly
opposed to changes that they claim are driven by American political
pressure. He suggested last week that talks on the 2006 and 2007 budgets
could be postponed as a means to overcome the trenchant resistance from the
"G77" bloc of developing countries. He also threatened that the United
States could seek an alternative to the UN for solving international
problems in future.

This of course is not the only strain right now from our number one war ally.
The memo last week that was released in a British newspaper which said Bush
wanted to bomb al Jazeera has sparked a controversial fire storm. The memo lead
to a gag order by the British Attorney General and has since sparked even more
outrage, some coming from Parliament.

Bush's New International Controversy

Posted 11/25/05 at 8:50pm by jamie

Earlier this week reports broke in the U.K. the Tony Blair had to talk Bush
out of bombing al Jazeera. Since then the British Media has been gagged by
Downing Street from reporting further on the memo.

Channel 4 news in London has reported that the gag order came from pressure
by the White House. Brad Freidman's
BradBlog has video
of this news report.

According to the report this is the first time the news media has been gagged
by Britain's Official Secrets Act. This only leads to further speculation and
proof that the details disclosed in the memo are true.

Today the

general manager of al Jazeera
has flown to London in order to meet with
government officials over the memo. It is also

sparking a law suit
against the United States by the widow of a slain Iraqi
reporter who worked for al Jazeera's Baghdad station which was bombed in 2003.

Can al-Qaeda Bomb Fox News?

Posted 11/22/05 at 3:27pm by jamie

FOX is known as a right wing propaganda machine. You can even go as far to
say that they deliver a message of hate towards liberals and those with
differing points of view. They have been promoters of the Iraq war and was a
very useful tool of the administration when it came to selling the war. So if al
Qaeda bombed them would it be a justification of war?

If not then take a look at this from the

AFP
:

US President George W. Bush planned to bomb pan-Arab television
broadcaster al-Jazeera, British newspaper the Daily Mirror said, citing a
Downing Street memo marked "Top Secret".

The five-page transcript of a conversation between Bush and British Prime
Minister Tony Blair reveals that Blair talked Bush out of launching a
military strike on the station, unnamed sources told the daily which is
against the war in Iraq.

The transcript of the pair's talks during Blair's April 16, 2004 visit to
Washington allegedly shows Bush wanted to attack the satellite channel's
headquarters.

Blair allegedly feared such a strike, in the business district of Doha,
the capital of Qatar, a key western ally in the Persian Gulf, would spark
revenge attacks.

In this report lies further reasons for Bush to answer to Congress. al-Jazeera
is not a military target or al-Qaeda ran. They are located in a sovereign nation
in the Middle East. Such an attack would spark all kinds of outrage at the U.N.
Thankfully Blair had the common sense to talk our idiotic cowboy out of this
bombing.

Iraqi Government Wants Timetable For Withdrawal.

Posted 11/21/05 at 8:42pm by jamie

So what is Bush's definition of "democracy in the Middle East"? Would it
involve listening to the leaders of the country we now occupy?

Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Iraqi leaders, meeting at a reconciliation
conference in Cairo, urged an end to violence in the country and demanded a
timetable for the withdrawal of coalition troops from Iraq.

In a final statement, read by Arab League chief Amre Moussa, host of the
three-day summit, they called for ``the withdrawal of foreign troops
according to a timetable, through putting in place an immediate national
program to rebuild the armed forces.'' No date was specified.

``The Iraqi people look forward to the day when the foreign forces leave
Iraq, when it's armed and security forces will be rebuilt and when they can
enjoy peace and stability and get rid of terrorism,'' the leaders said in
the statement. The session was broadcast live from the Egyptian capital by
al-Jazeera.

The summit was held to prepare for a larger conference scheduled to take
place in Baghdad in February. The Arab League is playing an increasing role
in attempting to bring Iraq's Kurdish, Shiite, and Sunni groups closer
together.

Well George, members of Congress want a timetable, the American people want a
timetable, and now, the Iraqi people want a timetable. When are you going to
uphold democracy and listen to the desires of everyone you answer too? This was
decided upon by the government we worked to set up in Iraq.

Al-Zarqawi Dead?

Posted 11/20/05 at 11:17pm by jamie

The
Associated Press
is reporting that al Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Al-Zarqawi,
may be amongst the dead from a gun fight that erupted between our forces and
insurgents held up in a house in Mosul. This of course would be an expected
victory for Bush.

There is a problem though. We have heard these rumors many times in the past.
As matter of fact, Zarqawi is coined as a rumor through much of the Arab world.
Al Jazeera magazine even had a big article about him a couple months ago and
labeled him as a myth conjured up by the United States.

I guess we will have to wait a couple days to find out if this was the so
called "Zarqawi" that was killed. Even if it was it still doesn't change
anything - after all, how many second in commands have we captured or killed
since the war started? The answer is numerous.

A Foreign View on the War in Iraq

Posted 8/23/05 at 5:34pm by jamie

The following is an article that appeared today in
Al Jazeera
magazine which was original written by the Guardian. It seems to give a very
accurate portrayal of what is going on in Iraq and the reasoning for our being
there.

Not “liberation”- An occupation

The U.S. needs to put an immediate end to this quagmire in Iraq. It has
become clear that Iraq is not a liberated country, but an occupied country.

America freed Iraq of what it callsthe “dictator rule” of Saddam Hussein,
but not from its illegal occupation. This is exactly what happened in 1898;
the U.S. liberated Cuba from Spain, but not from the U.S. occupying forces-
the Spanish rule was overthrown, but the U.S. established a military base in
the country- same scenario we now see in Iraq.

Let’s compare what happened in Cuba to what the U.S. is now doing in Iraq.
The U.S. corporations moved into Cuba, just as Bechtel and Halliburton and
other oil corporations are moving into Iraq. The U.S. imposed, with the
support from local accomplices, the constitution that would govern Cuba, just
as it has drawn up a constitution for Iraq, and persuaded all parties to
accept it.

Not liberation. An occupation. And it is an ugly occupation.

The New York Times reported on August 7 2003 that General Sanchez in
Baghdad was worried about the Iraqi reaction to occupation. The Iraqi leaders
were giving him a message, as he put it:

Could the Middle East Crisis Escalate to WW3?

A little over a year ago, this headline appeared in

Israel Insider
:

Report: Israel ready for pre-emptive strike against Iran's nuclear facility

At the time it was not thought much of and things got better for awhile with
Iran. Now they have removed the seals from their nuclear facility and today we
are back to where we were when this headline appeared.

The Israeli Air Force has completed military preparations for a pre-emptive
strike at Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility and will attack if Russia supplies
Iran with rods for enriching uranium, Israeli officials said, according to a
report in the London Sunday Times. Military sources said the raid would be
carried out by long-range F-15I jets, overflying Turkey, with simultaneous
operations by commandos on the ground.

With the reports coming out almost daily of not only Iran's nuclear
facilities, but more so their alleged supplying of supplies to the insurgents,
you can almost be certain we will jump right into this fight. You can read the
entire article

Now it is no secret that during the late 90's when Dick Cheney was head of
Halliburton, he was opposing sanctions against Iran because his company was
doing business with them.
