Flag Desecration Must Be Cool Again

Posted 3/26/10 at 11:00am by jamie

And the violence and threats continue:

The office also reported getting a portion of a cut-up American flag soaked in gasoline and a typed letter addressed to McCollum and other Minnesota Democrats including Rep. Keith Ellison, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Sen. Al Franken.

Where’s the right wing outrage over treating the U.S. flag like this? There is none. They are totally silent. In their eyes only their opponents are supposed to respect and honor the flag. Gladly I can say we do.

Tea Stained Flags?

It looks like World Net Daily is trying to desecrate the American flag:

AC009 This boxed Heritage flag kit comes complete with a 2 1/2 x 4 feet sewn, sleeved, antiqued cotton 50-star flag, 5' 2-piece mahogany stained wood pole and 1-position brass bracket. White areas of antiqued cotton will appear darker. Flag is 100% made in the U.S.A.

And this can be yours for only $73.50!

Now will the wingnuts stand up and denounce this desecration of ole’ glory? I highly doubt it, especially with people like Chuck Norris endorsing this “product”.

If the election of Barack Obama has shown us anything it is the hatred the right truly has towards America. They don’t accept a government “by the people”, they only want a government doing what they want. They desecrate the flag, promote secession of states, express desire for our President to fail at a time of economic havoc and wish for terrorist attacks on our great nation. None of these qualities represent a patriotic person, but rather represent the views of extremists and I think its damn well time to treat them as such.

Give Me A Break

The derangement that is Michelle Malkin and the right wing bloggers (here, here, and here) are up in arms over people “defacing” the flag in honor of the inauguration. It might be better to put this in picture form:

Malkin even goes as far as to recite the flag code:

“The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”

Now let’s use something that is in short supply on the right – common sense. Would that really be considered a flag or a novelty item? If it’s a flag, then perhaps we should go after Mitt Romney right now:

Flag Pin? What Flag Pin?

Now it has come to light that the founder of this Alaska Independence Party has professed his "hatrto light that the foundered for the American government" and considers the American flag "damn flag". But we also find out that Sarah Palin's husband was a registered member of this group until recently. Why does Sarah Palin hate the American flag? If she doesn't then why did she stay married to a man who was a member of a group with that actual belief?

If Rudy's Counting On Florida Then He Might As Well Quit

Posted 1/13/08 at 7:16am by jamie

Because he is thought of the same there as he is in New York:

Rudy Giuliani's plan to ride in a Miami-Dade firetruck in Sunday's Three Kings parade has outraged some firefighters who say the presidential candidate has ''lied'' about his 9/11 record because he did too little to equip and protect emergency workers.

The controversy -- unwittingly set in motion by County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa -- has politically pitted firefighters against one another in Miami-Dade as well as in New York. To quiet the feud, the IAFF's local Miami-Dade chapter, 1403, will cover its numbers on the union-owned firetruck by draping it with an American flag.

Hey Rudy - firefighters stick together. It don't matter which part of the country they are in. I am saying that not as a blogger, but as a former firefighter.

More On The Boehner Letter

Posted 10/23/07 at 8:34pm by jamie

One part of the email I received from John Boehner's office has been eating at me all day:

Rush Limbaugh's strong support of and charity for U.S. troops is well established and was even recognized by the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. Unlike radical left-wing groups and their followers, Limbaugh's goal is to boost troop morale, not depress it by stalling the resources troops need to complete their mission.

I am so sick of this "we are more patriot than you" crap. What resources have left-wing groups stalled or blocked from our troops? Was it protection against IEDs? No - that was the President and the Congress, which was controlled by Republicans at that time, of which Mr. Boehner was part of the leadership.

Is it diminishing each of the 3,700+ lives sacrificed in this war of lies as "a small price to pay"? No! Again - that was Mr. Boehner. The friends I have buried from this war were NOT small prices.

Perhaps it is time for us to play these word games. How about-

John Boehner; "I masturbate to pictures of dead soldiers".

The Religious Battle At Home

Posted 7/30/06 at 2:11pm by jamie

I openly admit I am not a religious person. I consider myself an Atheist and, as much as people try, will not change my views unless something happens in my life to make me change.

Having said that, I find what the religious right is doing to America today is despicable. We all know that this is not a "Christian" nation, but rather a nation of religious freedoms. These zealots have tried relentlessly to rewrite American history, and what she stands for.

I firmly believe that our forefathers knew the dangers of having politics and religion mixed. They wanted a separation of church and state to not only protect our nation, but more importantly to protect religion. They knew the dangers of politicians getting power hungry and invoking faith as a reason to wage war.

This millennium has shown a big change in those views. We now face more and more churches throwing their political hats in the ring and our leaders crediting their decisions with the “will of God”. This is very dangerous and leaves people like me feeling even more disconnected from our country.

Wasting More Money

Posted 4/17/06 at 5:03pm by jamie

Don't everyone wish their business ran this way - "no matter how bad you do, you still get paid top dollar". Well if you work for the government then that is exactly how it goes:

In late February 2004, the Army announced that it was canceling plans to build a radar-evading helicopter called the Comanche, a project that was nearly three years behind schedule and more than $3.5 billion over budget. Those problems, however, didn't stop an Army panel a few weeks later from granting the Boeing Co.-Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. partnership running the program a $33.9 million "award fee" for their work on the helicopter, part of more than $200 million in such fees paid to the partnership over four years.

Award fees are meant in theory to motivate defense contractors with extra money for performance. But a recent Government Accountability Office study found that the fees are often paid regardless of whether a project is on schedule and within its budget.

Instead of encouraging efficiency, the GAO found, award-fee payments have become routine in some major weapons contracts, built into company expectations and paid almost as a matter of course.

So this is how the "fiscally responsible" conservatives choose to run our country? Hell with that kind of spending and mismanagement let's go ahead and take the American flag down and put up the Chinese flag.

Honoring Our Soldiers As Luggage

Posted 12/11/05 at 5:58am by jamie

Here is a disturbing story of how our leaders treat those who have made the
ultimate sacrifice in combat. From 10 News in
San Diego:

Marine Bodies Sent To Families On
Commercial Airliners

SAN DIEGO -- There's controversy over how the military is transporting
the bodies of service members killed overseas, 10News reported.

A local family said fallen soldiers and Marines deserve better and that
one would think our war heroes are being transported with dignity, care and
respect. It said one would think upon arrival in their hometowns they are
greeted with honor. But unfortunately, the family said that is just not the
case.

Dead heroes are supposed to come home with their coffins draped with the
American flag -- greeted by a color guard.

But in reality, many are arriving as freight on commercial airliners --
stuffed in the belly of a plane with suitcases and other cargo.

John Holley and his wife, Stacey, were stunned when they found out the
body of their only child, Matthew, who died in Iraq last month, would be
arriving at Lindbergh Field as freight.

"When someone dies in combat, they need to give them due respect they
deserve for (the) sacrifice they made," said John Holley.

John and Stacey Holley, who were both in the Army, made some calls, and
with the help of U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, Matthew was greeted with honor and
respect.

"Our familiarity with military protocol and things of that sort allowed
us to kind of put our foot down -- we're not sure other parents have that
same knowledge," said Stacey Holley.

The Holleys now want to make sure every fallen hero gets the proper
welcome.

Freeper of the Week

Posted 8/16/05 at 7:50pm by jamie

Freeper of the week has to go to Larry Northern, the 59 year old Texan who
took chained a pipe to the back of his pickup truck and used it to destroy the
white crosses set up at Camp Casey in Crawford. Each one of the crosses
represented a fallen soldier, so this tells you what Mr. Northern must think of
the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to defend his freedom of
criminal damage. Authorities found pieces of the crosses and of the American
flag under Freeper Northern's truck. Authorities are planning to charge him with
criminal mischief.

A couple weeks back, we had a

story
here in the Cincinnati area about the funeral of Pfc. Timothy Hines
Jr. Less than 24 hours after he was laid to rest, someone gathered 20 flags that
were lining his mother-in-law's yard, placed them under a car sitting in the
driveway and torched it all.

A couple of days after that story broke, I noticed some right-wingers posting
to forums saying it was liberals who did this. No one had been arrested and
their were no suspects, but they instantly laid blame to the people who oppose
the war in Iraqr. I went to battle with these accusers considering their was no
suspect in the crime. A few days later, the police made the bust. Turns out the
suspects were two boys, ages 15 and 13, spending a night out doing some random
vandalism. They admitted to it after they learned it was a memorial for a fallen
soldier.
