Anti-Healthcare GOP Freshman Upset He Has To Wait A Month For His Government Run Healthcare

Posted 11/16/10 at 10:16am by jamie

Andy_HarrisThese people don’t even try to hide their hypocrisy anymore:

A conservative Maryland physician elected to Congress on an anti-Obamacare platform surprised fellow freshmen at a Monday orientation session by demanding to know why his government-subsidized health care plan takes a month to kick in.

Republican Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who defeated freshman Democrat Frank Kratovil on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, reacted incredulously when informed that federal law mandated that his government-subsidized health care policy would take effect on Feb. 1 – 28 days after his Jan. 3rd swearing-in.

“He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care,” said a congressional staffer who saw the exchange. The benefits session, held behind closed doors, drew about 250 freshman members, staffers and family members to the Capitol Visitors Center auditorium late Monday morning,”.

Even Joe Scarborough ended up calling this guy out this morning:

Paying To Get Raped - The Sarah Palin Chronicles

Posted 9/11/08 at 2:23pm by jamie

She don't believe women who become pregnant after being raped should be allowed to have an abortion. Right - that is a view shared by quiet a few wingnuts in this country. But what about having to pay for forensic evidence collection after you been raped? Well Sarah Palin thinks you, the victim, should have to pay for that collection.

Of everything we have heard about Sarah Palin, this has to be the most disgusting. Expecting victims of violent crimes to pay in order to have their attacker captured. The cost is approximately $1,000 for these kits. This bodes the question; how many rapes does Wasilla, Alaska see a year? I mean this town, which has received far more federal money than any other town it's size, can't afford to cough up a grand for this test? I thought government was supposed to be for the people. Apparently not.

The media needs to pick up on this more and get Palin on camera answering questions about this. The issue goes right to the heart of judgment, which is one of the top qualifications to become vice-President. I don't care if the media is shunned by McCain/Palin. They are still out in public speaking and people need to just start shouting, "Why did you charge rape victims for evidence collection?" over and over again. She must be force to answer and the American public is entitled to know the answer. If she doesn't answer then the American public are entitled to know that also.

Watch Out for the C-Span Monopoly

Posted 2/15/07 at 8:06pm by jamie

Yesterday I posted a video clip of Steny Hoyer on the House Floor. The clip was from C-Span. I posted it to YouTube, where it still remains.

Luckily it looks like I might be ok in spite of the recent rash of YouTube bannings for copyright violations. This came to light by another apparent fight that the right-wingers wanted to start with Pelosi and Kos pointed out:

Earlier today, the Republican Study Committee (RSC) released a document about the Speaker's use of copyrighted/trademarked C-SPAN material on a Congressional website.  The document was based upon a conversation that RSC staff had with Barry Katz, the Manager of C-SPAN Video Assets (and the employee identified as being directly responsible for answering questions to Congress about the use of C-SPAN material).

Lieberman/Lamont Debate

Posted 7/7/06 at 1:34am by jamie

I been catching up on clips and what nots from it. It my opinion Lamont showed that he is truly concerned about his constituents and the Democratic Party while Joe is worried about only Joe. Here are some great run downs from around the blogosphere.

Matt Stoller is debunking the lies Lieberman told tonight during the debate.

Jane has a clip up of Joe doing a typical Republican style attack of Lamont as well as a great thread going on about the debate

PolticsTV has the video up of the debate

And this is a doozy from Ned Lamont's Blog:

Senator Lieberman stormed out of the debate early, barely answering questions from the local media. He was hearing a lot about his anger during the debate and called it a day. Ned stuck around for questions for about 20 minutes. The result... Sean Smith, Senator Lieberman's campaign manager, fielding questions from a single repoter and Ned swamped by the press.

That will win some hearts and minds Joe - the hearts and minds of people like Malkin (oh wait - he already won that).

Snow's First Day With Cameras

Posted 5/16/06 at 11:03pm by jamie

Tony Snow's first day in front of the camera and already he has stuck his foot in his mouth (via Crooks and Liars):

CBS REPORTER: Why not declassify [the NSA's call records database]? I mean, the President did talk about the surveillance program a day after the New York Times broke that story. This would seem to affect far more people and it did sound like the President was confirming that story today when he was answering questions.

SNOW: If you go back and look through what he said, there was a reference of foreign to domestic calls. I am not going to stand up here and presume to declassify any kind of program. That is a decision the President has to make. I can't confirm or deny it. The President was not confirming or denying. Again, I would take you back to the USA Today story to give you a little context. Look at the poll that appeared the following day [...] something like 65% of the public was not troubled by it. Having said that, I don't want to hug the tar baby of trying to comment on the program... the alleged program, the existence of which I can neither confirm or deny.

Think Progress points this out:

Based on the context of the term, we believe you meant tar baby to mean: “a situation almost impossible to get out of; a problem virtually unsolvable.”

But in “American lore,” the expression tar baby is also a racial slur “used occasionally as a derogatory term for black people.” Use of the term has resulted in people being fired.

As Random House notes, “some people suggest avoiding the use of the term in any context.” Now that you are no longer at Fox News, you may want to take them up on their advice.

Bush Admits It

Posted 4/10/06 at 4:02pm by jamie

Bush has admitted to the declassification of parts of the pre-war intelligence:

Bush acknowledges declassifying Iraq intelligence

President George W. Bush acknowledged on Monday he ordered the declassification of parts of a prewar intelligence report on Iraq to respond to critics.

But Bush said he could not comment on an assertion that he authorized Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, to release the information to reporters. Libby is accused of obstruction of justice and perjury in an investigation designed to discover who leaked the name of a CIA operative.

"I will say this, that after we liberated Iraq, there was questions in peoples' minds about, you know, the basis upon which I made statements, in other words, going into Iraq," Bush said in his first words on the subject since it flared up last week.

Answering questions after a speech, Bush said he declassified an October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate in July 2003 for a reason.

"I wanted people to see what some of those statements were based on. I wanted people to see the truth. I thought it made sense for people to see the truth. That's why I declassified the document," he said.

Now the important questions must be asked by Congress - mainly "why was this part declassified and not the part that proved the allegations against Iraq false". While this might make the leak look a little more legal it makes the war look a lot more illegal. That is the important thing to remember here. Bush continuously went through great lengths to sell a war that was based on bad intelligence.

More Signs Of Hope For Democrats

Posted 10/13/05 at 5:30am by jamie

A NBC/Wall Street Journal poll release tonight shows that a majority want a
Democrat led congress now by a margin of 48% to 39%. This should lead to even
more problems the Republican's are facing with attempts to find viable
candidates for 2006.

The

New York Times
has an interesting article in which they discuss the problems
facing the Republicans, and the hopes for the Democrats to possible regain
control of Senate and the House next year. Should this happen, you can bet that
Bush will be a nervous wreck as he possibly faces answering questions on the
hill.
