Scarborough Turns Further To The Right

Posted 2/2/09 at 1:22pm by jamie

I was watching Morning Joe this morning and in utter amazement at the dialogue going on. For a moment I thought FOX had taken over the show. Here’s a clip caught by Think Progress:

As Think Progress points out:

What’s more, as Center for American Progress Action Fund President John Podesta pointed out to Scarborough minutes later, these tax cuts were something that “Barack Obama campaigned on all year long” — and he encountered the exact same fearmongering accusations of “socialism” from conservatives. If Americans didn’t support Obama’s tax plan, they wouldn’t have voted for him.

Yup – this country voted for Socialism by the Republican’s very definition. If they don’t like it then they can find a new place to call home, but that is what America wants, so Scarborough needs to get over himself.

But the fact is Scarborough and Buchanan both said they didn’t want help for the lower and middle class, but would rather have tax-cuts to the corporations. Again – screw us, but save them.

Clinton/Obama, Obama/Clinton

The talk now is that Clinton and Obama will most likely end up sharing a ticket. The Clinton campaign has already hinted at this, and Chuck Todd echoed the same thing this morning on MSNBC.

I think this might be the best possibility out there, if done right. What needs to happen is both candidates agree that the other will be their running mate. Then they stop the harsh attacks on each other and focus amongst the differences. They also need to focus on John McCain. Now that he is the presumptive nominee, he has the full force of the GOP behind him and a jump start on November. That means Clinton and Obama both going after him will be the best solution.

Having these two run on a ticket together could be the best hope for the Democrats to win the White House this fall. Since the primary races are starting to become more sparse, let's hope they come to an agreement on such. Let the voters decide who has the top spot on the ticket, but the other one will be on the ticket also.

Saddam Tactics Live On

Remember back to the summer of 2003? We could not find those WMDs the
administration swore Saddam had stockpiles of. Slowly the reasoning of our
invasion turned from WMD to freeing the people from the rule of an evil tyrant.
We heard stories of rape rooms and people being tortured by different means that
made your stomach turn.

Now we hear that another Iraqi ran prison has been uncovered and the stories
coming out of there echo those of the Saddam era.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An Iraqi search of a government jail in Baghdad
operated by the Interior Ministry found 13 prisoners who had been subjected
to serious abuse, The Washington Post reported on Monday.

An Iraqi official with firsthand knowledge of the search said at least 12
of the prisoners had suffered "severe torture," including electric shock,
the newspaper said.

"Two of them showed me their nails and they were gone," said the
official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The newspaper's Baghdad-datelined report cited an Iraqi Human Rights
Ministry statement as saying 13 of the prisoners had required medical
treatment and the findings would be "subject to an investigation."

The statement said 56 of the prisoners in the facility, inspected on
Thursday, had been released immediately following the inspection and another
75 had been transferred to another facility.

So this is how a free and democratic Iraq is suppose to operate? We may have
removed Saddam from power but his tactics still remain.
