Frist Facing Legal Troubles

Posted 9/23/05 at 3:09pm by jamie

It seems Bill Frist's sudden selling of stock in his families medical company
has drawn attention from the United States Attorney's office in New York. From
the

Associated Press
:

HCA subpoenaed, may involve Senate
leader

HCA Inc.,HCA.N operator of the largest chain of U.S. hospitals, said it
received a subpoena from the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New
York requiring it to produce documents.

HCA said it believes the subpoena relates to the sale of HCA stock by
Senator William H. Frist, the Republican Majority Leader. The company said
it intends to cooperate fully.

Bill Frist may end up meeting the same fate as Martha Stewart. This would
surely hurt his chances at a run for the White House in 2008.

Specter Urges Delay in Replacement of
O'Connor at Supreme Court

Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee
said he urged President George W. Bush today to delay nominating a
replacement for retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Senator Arlen Specter, Republican of Pennsylvania, said he talked to
Justice O'Connor about staying on the high court. ``She's prepared to do
that'' through the court's term ending in June, Specter said. The president
``was noncommittal,'' Specter said. ``The body language was not very
positive,'' Specter said.

Specter said the delay would give Congress and the rest of America more
time to know John Roberts as chief justice. ``When we know a little more
about Judge Roberts it's going to be easier with the next'' nomination,
Specter said.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee said he urged Bush to
submit a name to the Senate promptly. ``I feel we should proceed with the
nomination as anticipated,'' Frist said. If so, the confirmation process
could be completed ``around Thanksgiving.''

O'Connor, 75, often a key swing vote on the Supreme Court, announced on
July 1 that she is retiring and agreed to stay on until her replacement is
confirmed. She has said she wants to help care for her husband, John
O'Connor, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Specter and Frist, together with Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of
Nevada and Patrick Leahy of Vermont, ranking Democrat on the Judiciary
Committee, spoke with reporters at the White House after meeting with Bush
over breakfast.

Democrats Given A Gift

Posted 9/21/05 at 5:23pm by jamie

Every time Ken Mehlman, the chairman of the Republican
Party, opens his mouth I just want to cringe. He can hardly make a statement or
get through an interview without uttering “the Democrats have no agenda”.
Apparently in Ken’s little two-dimensional world there should only be two views
on the governing of our nation.

America is a highly diverse nation. We share a wide array
of views and beliefs and that is what makes our country so unique. We all know
that the Republicans stand for small government, big business, and faith based
initiatives. That is what makes the Democrat party more appealing.

Now I know Republicans would disagree with me on that
statement but take Bill Frist as a prime example. He strayed from party lines on
one small issue – stem cell research. That opened up a can of back lashes to the
Senator as members of his party lashed out at him.

You can even make a prime example out of George Bush. He is
one of the biggest spending Presidents we have ever had. That’s not really
conservative. Even his “Rebuilding the Gulf” initiative is now taking heat from
fellow Republicans. They are starting to feel that the deficit is getting to far
out of hand.

Bill Frist Is For Stem Cell Research.

Bill Frist broke away from the “good old boys” Republican Party today to say he supports stem-cell research. This turn of events have left people in shock, to say the least. This, needless to say, has become the dawn of attacks against the Senate Majority Leader.

"I think a candidate that, that-umm-believes in the destruction of life would have a very hard time appealing to the vast majority of the republicans in this party”, Tom Delay said today while showing his disapproval for Dr. Frist’s medical opinion. True Tom Delay is a man of high morals. He supports the businesses in Saipan. The very same companies that force women to work extremely long hours for little or no pay, while the ones that can not work are forced into prostitution (one was only 14 years old). Oh and if you are a working woman in Saipan and become pregnant, no problem, you will receive the mandated abortion. Sounds like Mr. Delay supports the destruction of life when it supports his financial interests.

Read this Reuters article for more details. I want to give a warm thanks to Dr. Frist however, for voting his conscience and not his political allies.

Bill Frist Cares About Gun Manufacturers More Than He Cares For America

Posted 7/26/05 at 10:30pm by jamie

Apparently protecting the gun manufacturers from lawsuits
is more important than the safety of our troops in the eyes of Senate leader
Bill Frist. Frist put off the 491 billion dollar defense appropriations bill
until the fall so that what he considers “more pressing” legislation can be
brought to the floor and voted upon before the August recess. The bill brought
forward will protect the gun industry from lawsuits of victims if the gun was
used unlawfully.

This is yet another proof of how the Republicans care more
about big businesss than the do the American people. Even further, Republicans
apparently have no concern for our troops since they wish to delay the important
bill to work on one shielding the industry that is their biggest supporter.

Bill Frist is UNPATRIOTIC to say the least. This action
just makes me sick. I urge everyone to email him using this
form and ask him to
put his priorities back on the American People and not on the Gun industry.
After that head on over to
Crooks and Liars to view the video of the hearing
today.
