Hey Andy Card – What About Jackets In The White House?

Posted 2/6/09 at 11:37am by jamie

Following up on my post about Andy Card demanding Obama “respect the Oval Office” and where a suit jacket at all times, I have no found this picture via HuffPo:

Maybe Andy should have spent time making the same demands of his former boss, instead of running out to get him cheeseburgers. But Bush isn’t the only one to break the “golden Card rule”. Look at all the former presidents who have done the same thing – including Reagan. Now how dare Andy Card go out there and publicly blast the The Gipper. I certainly hope the Republican circles prepare the firing squad for such an act of GOP treason.

Whiney Republican Watch

Posted 1/31/09 at 10:50am by jamie

baby_crying_closeup Oh this is just priceless:

Republicans wrapped up their retreat Friday by signaling they are losing patience with President Obama and the Democratic leadership in Congress.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) criticized the new administration on Friday, saying it had promised to reach out to Republicans on the Capitol Hill, but then offered an economic recovery package that included few, if any, proposals from the minority party.

Romney, who helped write the House Republican substitute voted down Wednesday afternoon, said enough of the rhetoric, it's time for Obama to act.

And what the fuck did the Democrats get with Bush? Hell we questioned his policies and were called “traitors” and “unpatriotic”, and now the Mittster has his magical panties all up in a bunch. Welcome to what the detractors from the previous administration went through. If you don’t like it then get the hell out of the country. That is something else we heard too.

A New Record

Posted 1/29/09 at 1:59pm by jamie

The last week of the Bush legacy gave us a new record:

The number of people remaining on the benefits roll after drawing an initial week of aid, or continued claims, rose 159,000 to a higher-than-forecast 4.776 million in the week ended Jan 17, the most recent week for which data is available.

The Labor Department said this was the highest reading since its records on this series began in 1967. Analysts had expected continued claims to be 4.65 million.

Of course these numbers won’t bet better anytime soon. Bush may be gone but his damage lives on.

What Timing

The talk today will be this:

The emergence of a former Guantánamo Bay detainee as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch has underscored the potential complications in carrying out the executive order President Obama signed Thursday that the detention center be shut down within a year.

The militant, Said Ali al-Shihri, is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the United States Embassy in Yemen’s capital, Sana, in September. He was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007 and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with Al Qaeda in Yemen.

His status was announced in an Internet statement by the militant group and was confirmed by an American counterterrorism official.

Of course buried deeper in the article is this:

Impeach Him!

The wingnuts have found their ammo against Obama that could lead to his removal from office. On day 1 he is already violating rules!

art.ovaloffice.cnn

The astute reporters at Clownhall Townhall, with cues from CNN, already notes this major violation:

Obama Breaks Reagan/Bush Oval Office Jacket Rule

You can even see the seriouseness of this violation of rules in the comments on their site:

lack of respect

first sign of whats ahead, he does not respect the tridition (sic) of the office and shows that on day one.

Yes because out of everything facing the nation today, the proper outer attire trumps it all.

Priceless

Watching the coverage on MSNBC, as Bush takes his final flight aboard Marine One around the capital, the crowd starts singing “na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye”

14 Hours Biatch!

I was going through some old files and found some old Flash games I had made way back in the infancy days of this blog (yes my graphic work sucks - I much prefer working in 3D). Here was the Bush Cannon game I made back in 2005 and had on the blog for several months. Today it seems so appropriate, but I just can't figure out why. (And I would love to find the time to do some more game development in Flash. It's so much fun)

Erasing Eight Years Of Hell – Part 1

Posted 1/16/09 at 10:29am by jamie

images Last night Bush gave his farewell address and during it he gave himself an awful lot of pats on the back. Here’s one part that really got me:

A new Medicare prescription drug benefit is bringing peace of mind to seniors and the disabled.

Really? Someone should have told the seniors and disabled about this “peace of mind”. When the new program went into effect and tons of seniors couldn’t get their medicine, a local group of seniors tried to get answers from our district’s congressman – John Boehner. When they contacted his office to hold a meeting, he flat out refused and just said “the program is working”.

Then seniors got a new wake up call a few months later – the doughnut hole. This ended up costing the seniors even more.

This program has been a colossal fuckup, much like NCLB, but it looks like Obama has recognized that and is ready to undo the hell Bush and the Republicans created for our seniors:

Barack Obama pledged yesterday to shape a new Social Security and Medicare "bargain" with the American people, saying that the nation's long-term economic recovery cannot be attained unless the government finally gets control over its most costly entitlement programs.

Flight 1549

Posted 1/16/09 at 9:21am by jamie

As most, I spent a lot of time yesterday watching the miracle that was flight 1549. Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot of the plane, is a hero to the end for his handling of the disaster at 3,000 feet.

Something that I did notice while checking out blogosphere coverage of the near tragedy was that people seemed to be kind of shocked over the notion that birds can bring down a big jet. For example, here’s Malkin’s posting;

Speculation: The plane hit a flock of birds?

She’s questioning the whole “flock of birds” thing, when in actuality birds account for tons of airplane problems, including engine failure. It wasn’t that long ago that G.E. actually tested engines by releasing live birds into engines (I knew one of the people who worked there doing this).

I just had to point out Malkin though. If there were rumors that some brown person was trying to take over the plane, then the whole “speculation” work wouldn’t be there. Instead it would read more like “jihadists hijack airplane”.

True we now get to wait for the pre-emptive strike against all birds. We must attack them there so they don’t attack us there! Bush has 4 days left in office – could we see another war?

How Times Change

Posted 1/15/09 at 9:20am by jamie

Pat Buchanan on MSNBC just now saying how Eric Holder being AG would be nothing but problems because he is close to Obama. Funny how it was never a problem with Republicans when Gonzales was AG and so close to Bush.

Bush Admits It

Posted 1/15/09 at 8:26am by jamie

Bush on King last night:

KING: So there's nothing you've done in the area of treatment of prisoners that causes you any kind of pause?

G. BUSH: No. No. Everything we did was -- you know, it had legal -- legal opinions behind it. Look, you're sitting there, you've captured Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He's the guy that ordered the September the 11th attacks. And we want to know what he knows in order to protect the United States of America. And I got legal opinions that said whatever we're going to do is legal. And my job is to protect you, Larry. And I've given it my all. I've given it my all.

So it’s legal because Bush went out and got attorneys to say it is legal – law be damned. Hell – why didn’t Clinton just get a lawyer to say “hey, the President can lie under oath, it’s legal”. That would have got away with that whole impeachment mess. Maybe Bernie Madoff should get a lawyer to say his scheme was legal, then he wouldn’t have to worry about facing charges.

Funny, but I always thought the third branch decided what was legal. Why even have a judicial branch if the administrative branch will now decide what is legal and not?

>

The Obama administration needs pushed to prosecute Bush and everyone involved in this. It’s part of the healing process this country really needs – to know that justice still drives the American way. By not prosecuting, we are opening up a dangerous precedent in which the President can trump the Constitution and the rule of law, and that can’t be allowed to happen.

The Effects Of NCLB

Posted 1/14/09 at 3:58pm by jamie

BUSH NCLB Bush was praising No Child Left Behind this week, so it’s time to point out one little accomplishment of that – sex for degrees:

The student, from San Diego, California, USA, insisted she was not demeaning herself and had been persuaded to offer herself to the highest bidder after her sister Avia, 23, successfully raised money for her own degree after working as a prostitute for three weeks.

Miss Dylan, who has a degree in Women's Studies, said one bid for her virginity came from a zookeeper who offered her a live tiger in exchange for her virginity. She did not elaborate on where the zookeeper worked or how the man might fulfil his promise.

Perhaps Bush should leave us with a new slogan for NCLB – penetration for an education.
