Shuster Suspended From MSNBC

Posted 2/8/08 at 4:20pm by jamie

It started when Shuster said the Clinton's were "pimpin" out Chelsea to help with the election, which Shuster apologized for this morning. Then a conference call this afternoon with the Clinton campaign resulted in the campaign saying they would not appear on anymore MSNBC debates. Now MSNBC has suspended Shuster from any broadcasts, except to air his apology.

Yes it was wrong for Shuster to say that, but he apologized twelve hours later. When Matthews made his comment it took over a week before he apologized, and then he was heavily defended by Shuster and others, including Joe Scarborough, and the blogs were the ones blamed. It sounds like MSNBC has some serious problems going on there.

I want to clarify that I am in no way supporting Shuster for his comments. I have never heard anyone say "Bush is pimpin out Jenna" or "Cheney is pimpin out Mary" in the past, so there is a serious problem here and MSNBC did a good thing addressing it so quickly. Having said that, the same level of conduct and discipline need to be carried out throughout the entire organization - including Matthews.

Limbaugh Devotes Entire Show To Trashing McCain

Posted 2/4/08 at 6:57pm by jamie

I can't believe I am here defending John McCain, but this is getting to be ridiculous:

Continuing his attack on Republican frontrunner Sen. John McCain, conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh devoted a significant portion of his radio show Monday to urging conservatives not to vote for the senator in tomorrow's Super Tuesday contests.

For weeks, Limbaugh has been on the attack against McCain, branding the Arizona senator a "liberal" an

Here's the problem I have. Rush is broadcast on public airwaves throughout the nation. He is now using these public airwaves to promote his own political agenda. Does any other candidate, Democratic or Republican, have such time on the airwaves?

Rush has also recently called Hillary Clinton a "hoe" and Barack Obama a "spade". So should this hate speech be allowed to continue on our airwaves?

Perhaps it's time for people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to stop giving a free pass to Limbaugh. While we are at it, perhaps we need the FCC and FEC to step up and start enforcing the laws and regulations.

Also someone should ask the White House why Cheney supports Limbaugh. He goes on his show all the time. Does Cheney think Hillary is a hoe and Obama is a spade? Does Cheney hate John McCain as much as Rush?

The Important Lessons Of Last Night's GOP Debate

Posted 1/25/08 at 9:33am by jamie

Once you get past all the lies told last night at the GOP debate, I think there was one important message sent out by all the candidates, except Ron Paul. That message is simple - "We support George Bush". They tried to pin all the problems in America today on the Democrats. Considering the Democrats have only been in charge of Congress for a year, and that year was mostly ineffective due to Republican stonewalling, it shows that the Republican candidates are unwilling to take any responsibility for their failures.

What it comes down to is that the Republicans want to be the "feel good" party. They want to feel good about their own party, while ignoring the failures of their party. Perhaps the social conservatives should take them to task on that very notion. While the candidates are patting the party on their backs, ask them what has happened to the social conservative agenda? You don't hear any of them talking about Roe or gay marriage. Evangelicals - they have forgotten you.

Would Rudy Pardon Kerick?

Posted 11/9/07 at 9:40am by jamie

He won't say:

Rudy Giuliani refused to say if he'd consider pardoning his old friend Bernie Kerik - who was indicted Thursday on federal corruption charges - if elected President.

"It wouldn't be fair to ask that question at this point," the Republican presidential hopeful said in an exclusive interview in Dubuque, Iowa, just hours before Kerik was indicted in New York.

Like any other Republican, Rudy hates the law. Of course that is only when it affects him or the people around him.

The irony is that yesterday a poll came out saying 74% of the people want a President different than Bush. Well that should translate to 74% of the people don't want Rudy. Here is the voting points for Rudy:

  • Want more cronyism in our federal agencies? Vote Rudy.
  • Want more wars by a leader who won't listen to experts? Vote Rudy.
  • Want more disregard for the law? Vote Rudy.

That's just a few off the top of my head, but Rudy looks more and more like Bush everyday. Hell he is already bringing in a lot of the most notorious names of the Bush administration. I wouldn't be shocked if Rudy picked Cheney as his running mate. He already said he wants a VP like Cheney.

Rudy is Bush. There is no getting around it, so if you think this county is doing great and on the right track, go out there and give Rudy your vote. I sincerely hope America isn't so ignorant to not see through him. If we are then we deserve what ever happens to us. Hell we might as well start learning Chinese.

O'Reilly's Commenters Pushing Crimes Against Democratic Candidates?

Posted 7/26/07 at 8:14am by jamie

News For The Left posted this yesterday:

After seeing this post by John Aravosis on AmericaBlog, I was incensed and concerned at the same time. Here is the comment on O'Reilly's blog that crossed the line:

If Hillary wins, I will be respectful of our leader. If you could read my thoughts, I would be on the SS [Secret Service] watch list.

So, I did what a responsible person should do when they see something like this on a blog. I called the Secret Service to report it. This comment isn't about politics or defaming Senator Clinton. It outright states a threat to her life. It is unacceptable.

After reading this, I got thinking about when that bomb went off in Afghanistan that was targeting Cheney. People posted comments like "damn they missed" on Huffington Post about the incident. Of course the staff at Huffington Post did the reasonable thing and instantly shut off the comments on that post. That didn't stop the rabid dogs on the right from launching a full assault against the Huffington Post and the left in general.

Now these comments appeared on a site that anyone can register to post on. You don't have to pay to voice your opinion over there, just register for a free account and post away.

O'Reilly's site is different. To post on his blog you need to pay $49.95 a year. To even access his forums, you must become a paid member. So why are posts like this allowed to exist? His posters don't have the anonymity that people posting on Huffington Post do (or any other progressive site). They have a record of payment from their posters, which must contain their personal information.

BREAKING: Bush Commutes Libby's Sentence

Posted 7/2/07 at 5:54pm by jamie

Not a pardon, but rather he commuted the sentence. That means no jail for Scooter. Bush says he felt the punishment was too harsh. So is that saying that lying about a blow job is a worse crime than lying under oath regarding the outing of a CIA agent? It appears so.

Bush just handed the Democrats a great campaign talking point. Only 19% of the people polled believe Libby should have been pardoned (and this is essentially the same). Let's see how Congress reacts to this now.

UPDATE #1

The Muckraker has Bush's statement up. I wonder why he just released a statement and chose not to address the nation? Sounds like the White House knew this would cause a shit storm.

Oh - and if you are ever called before the court, or involved in a legal investigation, go ahead and lie. George Bush sez it's ok. (end sarcasm).

UPDATE #2

Apparently the White House has turned off their phone lines. Sounds like they don't want to listen to the people they work for.

UPDATE #3:

Daily Kos has the reactions up of Democrats here and here. Sounds like it is time for Congress to open a full investigation into the leak and pull Cheney and Bush in to testify. Or is a blow job still more serious?

How They Say Anything

Posted 6/23/07 at 10:57am by jamie

Right wingers always look at us like we are crazy when we talk about the flat out lies the White House tells. Well here is they are actually the ones who deserve the crazy look.

Think Progress has a video up of last night's Countdown. During yesterday's White House briefing, Dana Perino told reporters this in regards to Cheney exempting himself from the law:

PERINO: If you look on page 18 of the EO, when you have a chance, there’s a distinction regarding the Vice President versus what is an agency. And the President also, as the author of an EO, and the person responsible for interpreting the EO, did not intend for the Vice President to be treated as an agency, and that’s clear.

Sure - that makes it all better. Doesn't it?

But wait! Keith Olbermann didn't buy it and the people at MSNBC looked into this further:

OLBERMANN: No exemption at all for the Vice President on page 18. So we emailed the White House, which referred us to section 1.3 — which is about something else altogether — and 5.2 — which makes no mention of the Vice President. In fact, there is no exemption for the President or the Vice President when it comes to reporting on classified material.

So again we have a White House flat out lying to the American people. True what do we expect from Dana Perino. It was her husband who thought he was above the law and landed himself in the slammer. Just another part of the Bush crime family.

One Month Ago

Posted 5/3/07 at 9:01am by jamie

Nancy Pelosi goes to Syria and gets branded a traitor and gets accused of "bad behavior" and possibly "criminal activities". The media sure did eat up on this. Now fast forward to today and Condi Rice is heading over to Syria to meet with them:

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will meet Syria's foreign minister in the first high-level talks between the countries in years, a U.S. official said Thursday, and the chief American military spokesman in Iraq said Syria had moved to reduce "the flow of foreign fighters" across its border.

But a substantive meeting between the United States and Iran — another U.S. opponent in the Mideast — appeared less certain. The Iraqi government is pressing for Rice and her Iranian counterpart to meet during the gathering, saying Washington's conflict with the government in Tehran is only fueling Iraq's instability.

"We expect that there will be a discussion between Secretary of State Rice and the Syrian foreign minister about Iraqi security issues," said a senior State Department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was still being arranged.

Aravosis asks the important question about this:

So does Pelosi get credit for the breakthrough in relations, or is Condi a traitor too?

I believe the media needs to ask this question to everyone who attacked Pelosi for her trip. I would start at the White House. Don't forget to ask Cheney if Condi is now exhibiting "bad behavior".

A Very Interesting Observation

Posted 3/6/07 at 7:02pm by jamie

The right wing blogs are all a flurry over the HuffPo. They are wondering why the comments on a post about Cheney's blood clot have now been closed.

So what does this mean? It is interesting that the only ones who appear to have a problem with this are the people on the right. These are the same blogs that typically don't even allow comments.

Putting this all together, could it be that the people posting lude comments on HuffPo come from the right? The fact that the wingnuts are constantly pointing out commenting actions and policies on left of center blogs kind of point in that direction. Considering Malkin is one of the biggest pushers of this issue and one of her dear followers was charged with sending fake anthrax letters to high profile people makes it all that more suspicious.

Just something to toss around the old noggin.

Is Cheney's Days Numbered?

Posted 3/6/07 at 1:59pm by jamie

Just a quick thought. Yesterday the news came out that Cheney has a blood clot in his leg. This is considered rather serious considering his medical history.

Today his former top aide is convicted with obstruction of justice. Basically we all know Cheney told Libby about Plame. Libby has gone down to protect Cheney. Cheney will now have to answer.

So that leaves us with a serious question. Will Cheney step down and take one for the team? I don't think it is very likely, but it is possible. The next fews days will be very interesting.

"The Cloud Over Cheney"

Posted 2/22/07 at 8:37am by jamie

That is the latest piece by Froomkin in today's WaPo talking about the Libby trial:

There is a cloud over the vice president . . . And that cloud remains because this defendant obstructed justice," Fitzgerald said.

"There is a cloud over the White House. Don't you think the FBI and the grand jury and the American people are entitled to straight answers?" Fitzgerald asked the jury.

Libby, Fitzgerald continued, "stole the truth from the justice system."

This is a must read article that does a good job at summing the climax the month long trial. Marcy has done a great job at putting together a chronological list of Cheney's involvement and even said Fitzgerald is free to use it if he needs it to indict Cheney.

While the case of Scooter Libby is coming to a close, I got a feeling the entire Plame investigation is still far from over. The wingnuts have tried to say that the investigation ended when Fitzgerald announced his indictments against Libby, but Fitzgerald made it clear that this case was not closed and things could still come out, even in the trial.

Fitzgerald his the nail on the head by saying "Don't you think the FBI and the grand jury and the American people are entitled to straight answers?". Yes they do, but even more so, the families of the 3,100 plus soldiers that have died in Iraq deserve the truth. This case is about one of the key arguments for the Iraq war, an argument which has since been debunked. Perhaps it is time for the Democrats in Congress to put Cheney and Bush under oath and have them testify.
