Health Care Spending Down In 2008

Posted 1/5/10 at 9:59am by jamie

I’m sure some will point to this as an indicator that we don’t need health care reform:

Spending on health care slowed in 2008, according to a government report released Tuesday. In fact, health spending grew more slowly than at any time in at least a half century.

[SNIP]

"National health spending growth slowed in 2008 to 4.4 percent, the slowest rate of growth in the National Health Expenditure Accounts."

In other words, the slowest growth since the government has kept records.

Of course the people who call this good news would be wrong:

There's still more bad news, says Rick Foster, the chief actuary at HHS. A major reason health spending slowed is that with the bad economy, many people simply couldn't afford medical care.

"In many cases they lost their employee-sponsored health benefits at the same time they lost their jobs. So that meant that the cost of care was much much higher because they had to pay it out of pocket. So some people presumably scaled back on their purchases."

People haven’t suddenly gotten healthier, nor has the health care industry done some major rate reductions. Instead more people can’t afford to seek health care when they are sick. The richest nation on earth and we have people who can’t afford to see a doctor when they fall ill. That alone is a crime and the fact that it happens here really shows that this is anything but a Christian nation.

More Corruption From The Religious

Religion has to be the most corrupt part of our society. I don't blame the people who follow it, I just blame the people who lead it.Here is the latest scandal surrounding Oral Roberts University:

Now, his son, Oral Roberts University President Richard Roberts, says God is speaking again, telling him to deny lurid allegations in a lawsuit that threatens to engulf this 44-year-old Bible Belt college in scandal.

Richard Roberts is accused of illegal involvement in a local political campaign and lavish spending at donors' expense, including numerous home remodeling projects, use of the university jet for his daughter's senior trip to the Bahamas, and a red Mercedes convertible and a Lexus SUV for his wife, Lindsay.

She is accused of dropping tens of thousands of dollars on clothes, awarding nonacademic scholarships to friends of her children and sending scores of text messages on university-issued cell phones to people described in the lawsuit as "underage males."

If this is what Christianity is defined as, and we are a "Christian Nation", then it's no wonder people hate us. Perhaps people that call us a Christian Nation should now be attacked for insulting the United States.

This Man Wants To Be President?

John McCain trying to talk his way out of his "Christian President" comment:

Later, McCain said, "I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and defend our political values." He added that "the Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation."

Which part of the Constitution says that we are a Christian nation? This man swore an oath to uphold the Constitution when he became a Senator and he made this comment? Pandering to the Christian right should not mean selling your soul. John McCain has just proven he will say anything to win votes. Talk about someone who has taken a serious fall. This man is now a disgrace!

And They Are A Christian Party

Posted 7/8/06 at 7:14pm by jamie

Remember when there was all the outrage by the right because Howard Dean said the Republican party is "pretty much a white, Christian party"? You would have thought he called them the Klan or something. They were outraged. So why was it so bad when he did that, yet this is how the party acts?

When the Texas Republican Party adopted its platform recently, party leaders left no question as to the importance it placed on religion.

The platform calls America a "Christian nation, founded on Judeo-Christian principles," and that has drawn a frustrated reaction from Jewish groups that consider the language exclusionary.

Another portion of the platform has stirred additional concerns. "We pledge to exert our influence toward a return to the original intent of the 1st Amendment and dispel the myth of the separation between church and state," the document reads.

In Texas and elsewhere, debates on social and cultural issues have blurred the line between faith and politics. Fights over gay marriage, abortion and school prayer reflect and exacerbate the rift between religious conservatives and the more secular-minded.

In recent days, Republicans in the House announced their "American Values Agenda," a package of legislation that among other things would preserve the mention of God in the Pledge of Allegiance and protect state and local officials from paying damages if they are sued for public expressions of religion. And last week, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) issued a call to his own party, urging a more open dialogue on the subject of faith to counter a perception of progressives as secular snobs.

The Christian Crusade of America

Posted 8/9/05 at 4:33pm by jamie

There is a Christian Crusade going on in this country. In a
land where we preach freedom of speech and religion, the push is on to force
people into Christianity.

In Chicago, the residents of a public housing project for
seniors filed a lawsuit in federal court stating they were coerced and
intimidated by management into practicing Christianity and attending Bible
studies. The
Chicago Sun Times
article reporting this story talks about how residents had
to hide in bathrooms to get away from these people.

This is not the only sign of the crusade being fought on
our home front. Last week it was

reported
about a pilgrimage to South Carolina, where Christian families are
moving to the southern state in an attempt to turn it towards conservative
Christianity.

In the South Carolina of their dreams, abortion would be
illegal. The Ten Commandments would be proudly displayed. Public schools would
be a thing of the past. Taxes would be severely limited, and property rights
would be paramount.

And if the federal government tried to interfere, well,
they'd secede.

This is starting to take place all over the country, and is
a sign of truly frightening times to come.

We are starting to see a diminishing separation of church
and state as powerful religious basis such as the Catholic Church begin to take
a strong hold in government. The very rights that liberal groups such as the
ACLU have fought tirelessly to defend are now being used in order to convert a
diverse nation to a Christian nation.
