Welcome To Jesus Inc.

Another follow-up on the fire that destroyed Touchdown Jesus in Ohio last night. Darlene Bishop, co-pastor of the statues church had this to say in response to the destruction of their 1/4 million dollar eye sore:

“I think he (Jesus) couldn’t have gotten this much advertising if we had paid a billion dollars,” she said Tuesday.

So now we have Jesus needing to buy ad time. Maybe he can get a sports stadium named after him, or even sponsor a NASCAR driver while we are at it.

This highlights the major problem with Christianity today. It isn't about preaching the word, helping the needy or even raising the spirituality of others. Today's Christian churches are nothing but businesses, who worry about the bottom line. Does this "person of the clothe" seriously believe that the Jesus the Bible talks about would appreciate her statement? I highly doubt he would and she should really reconsider her view of what happened.

Adding... The statue was made mostly of Styrofoam, a carcinogenic when it burns. I wonder how many firefighters and other people were exposed to that last night? Is that worth the advertising for Jesus? If so then it's yet another reason I'm a proud Atheist.

Joe The Plumber “Is A Dumbass”

I might not always agree with Meghan McCain’s political views, but you got to love her brutal honesty on some things:

Yet even as the balance begins to shift, the old guard is still yapping in the foreground. Shortly before McCain sat for this interview, Samuel Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, gave an interview to Christianity Today in which he complained about “queers” and declared, “I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children.” Unprompted, McCain rails against the man her father’s presidential campaign touted as an American everyman and made a showpiece in the weeks before the election. “Joe the Plumber -- you can quote me -- is a dumbass. He should stick to plumbing.”

The worst part is that the GOP decided to prop up the dumbness that is Joe the Plumber and tout it as symbolic of every American. It’s really an insult to the majority of this country, and if the GOP wants to build their party on a base of Joe’s, then they can plan on being the permanent minority.
