contempt

$20,000

Posted 10/13/09 at 12:08pm by jamie

That’s how much birther attorney Orly Taitz has been fined by a judge:

Reached on her cell phone by TPMmuckraker and informed of the $20,000 fine imposed on her by a federal judge this morning, Birther attorney Orly Taitz responded, first, with laughter.

"So he didn't recuse himself?" Taitz asked, after letting out an extended, nervous-sounding chuckle.

And to make matters even more fun, Taitz is saying she has no intention of paying the fine:

Still defiant after months of legal wrangling and, by our count, three written denunciations by federal district court Judge Clay Land, Taitz said she had absolutely no plans to pay the $20,000 fine.

"Are you kidding? Of course not," she said, asked whether she planned to send a check. "This is a form of intimidation."

Instead Taitz is planning on filing yet another response. Hopefully in 30 days we will see this nut job locked up for contempt, though she has been a great mascot of the birther movement – proving just how fucking crazy they all are.

The Need For Two Parties

Posted 4/24/09 at 7:15am by jamie

If you been following my blog for awhile you know that I take the demise of the GOP very seriously. Sure they are fun to pick on and its funny to watch, but our democracy is reliant upon a two party system to enact a system of checks and balances. That very ideal is in jeopardy due to the actions of the GOP and its something our nation should be discussing.

Well it turns out I am not the only one holding that view. Last night Ed Rendell and Rachel Maddow were both echoing their concerns over the very same thing.

Instead of working to become relevant and opening their party up to a wider array of views, the RNC is wasting their times with childish games like asking the Democratic Party to change their name to the Democrat Socialist Party. Barack Obama said last year that we have entered the “silly season” in politics. The Republicans seem contempt on extending that season indefinitely.

I sincerely hope that the RNC gets someone in there of rational mind to worry about the parties goals and message, instead of wanting to play games that would be found in a school yard. As it stands right now the Republicans are risking a long life in the abyss.

Congress -V- Bush

Pelosi was ready for Mukasey's refusal to enforce the contempt citations. Now the next step - court:

"By ordering the U.S. Attorney to take no action in response to congressional subpoenas, the Bush Administration is continuing to politicize law enforcement, which undermines public confidence in our criminal justice system.

"Anticipating this response from the Administration, the House has already provided authority for the Judiciary Committee to file a civil enforcement action in federal district court and the House shall do so promptly. The American people demand that we uphold the law. As public officials, we take an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect our system of checks and balances and our civil lawsuit seeks to do just that."

Let's see how quickly this moves.

It's Final - I Will Vote For Obama March 4

Posted 2/20/08 at 12:22pm by jamie

Hillary Clinton's campaign is a disgrace. Here is what one of her surrogates, Tom Buffenbarge, had to say about Obama supporters:

But it was Obama supporters for whom Buffenbarger saved his most vitriolic contempt, and he proved that the Democratic Party's coalition is nothing if not fragile. Channeling Howard Beale from the movie "Network," he yelled into the microphone, "Give me a break! I've got news for all the latte-drinking, Prius- driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust fund babies crowding in to hear him speak! This guy won't last a round against the Republican attack machine. He's a poet, not a fighter."

So now that Hillary is most likely going to loose the primary, she will have her surrogates out there to trash talk the people who voted for Obama? Talk about putting yourself above your party or country. Hillary never denounces these type of comments, so she must believe in them.

Partisan Unity Trumps Law?

Posted 1/23/08 at 1:55pm by jamie

It is far beyond time for Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to go. They are a joke as leaders. Here is their latest caving to the administration:

Senior Democrats have decided that holding a controversial vote on the contempt citations, which have already been approved by the House Judiciary Committee as part of its investigation into the firing of nine U.S. attorneys, would “step on their message” of bipartisan unity in the midst of the stimulus package talks.

We have now reached a point where Pelosi and Reid are complacent in George Bush's law breaking. The amazing part is that this whole thing involves the White House putting politics above justice. Now we have Reid and Pelosi doing the same thing.

Bush Lie Conference Recap

Posted 4/3/07 at 12:23pm by jamie

They call it a press conference, but we all know it is a lie conference, where Bush exhibits his contempt for the American people by flat out telling them lies. He must really think we are a bunch of stupid people.

First off Think Progress brings us this very interesting fact:

During the reign of the Do-Nothing 109th Congress, Bush submitted two major supplemental spending requests. Each request experienced a delay far more than 57 days with hardly a peep of anger from the Commander-In-Chief. Details below:

February 14, 2005: Bush submits $82 billion supplemental bill
May 11, 2005: Bush signs the supplemental
Total time elapsed: 86 days

February 16, 2006: Bush submits $72 billion supplemental bill
June 15, 2006: Bush signs the supplemental
Total time elapsed: 119 days

Or as the title of their post says "Memo To Bush: 57 Days < 119 Days".

Comment: Ports, Pandering, and Politics

Posted 3/11/06 at 1:23am by Anonymous (not verified)

Yesterday, Dubai Ports World announced that it would sell operation of US ports to a "US entity," thus bringing the ballyhoo over this controversial sale to a close.  The hype surrounding this issue was mostly manufactured.  Security, the only concern, is not outsourced and would not have been.

Politicians created the furor for their own political advantage.  Democrats, successfully (and incorrectly) painted as weak on defense by their opponents for years, seized on the opportunity to accuse the Bush administration of being soft on security by selling port operations to a nation with ties to the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US.  Republicans, needing to find issues to break with an unpopular President on, and seeking to shore up their racist base with a show of contempt for Arabs, joined in opposing the deal.  Even the Whitehouse probably saw advantage in all the hype, as it took the fickle media's focus away from the fact that the Vice President had imbibed at least one drink, handled a loaded firearm, shot a man in the face, and then sent investigators away without submitting to a blood alcohol test.
