Again – Why Vote For Democrats This Year?

Posted 1/21/10 at 10:04am by jamie

The Democratic Party has become an utter train wreck since Tuesday night. Now we have this from Diane Feinstein:

Feinstein said it is clear that attempts to pass sweeping legislation to address climate change by capping carbon emissions cannot pass this Congress.

So if Democrats are just going to cave in on any important legislation now, then why even vote for them anymore? No matter what happens they aren’t going to get a super majority again. You aren’t going to get states like Indiana, Arkansas or Nebraska to vote for some progressive candidate. So why even bother?

This again all boils down to message control and the fact that the inside the beltway crowd has no idea what real Americans are thinking. Do real Americans really know that the Republicans have been filibustering everything? No, because Harry Reid doesn’t make them filibuster. Instead he just caves.

So when the Democrats end up losing a tidal wave of seats this fall, and by all indicators that is exactly what will happen, then they will have no one to blame but themselves. It’s time to force out the old mindset of the Democratic Party and inject a new leadership that really knows how to lead. If the Democrats don’t do that then their new found majority is going to be very short lived.

Rick Warren To Give Invocation At The Inauguration – So Much Outrage

Posted 12/17/08 at 8:57pm by jamie

obama-and-rick-warren1 There’s a lot of outrage right now in the blogosphere over Rick Warren being tapped to give the invocation at Inauguration Day. Most of the blame seems to be lying on Obama, so I think it is time to look into some not so well known facts. The actual Inauguration events are held on the west lawn of the U.S. Capital. This means that Congress is in charge of the inauguration – specifically the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. This committee has been handling the organization of inaugural events since 1901, but Congress has pretty much always had the mantle, since the Constitution does say that Congress picks when and where the inauguration happens.

This year’s JCCIC is chaired by Diane Feinstein. The other members are; Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, John Boehner and Bob Bennett. They were the ones who picked out the lineup for the inauguration. Here is a link to the press release they issued on it.

Terra! Terra!

In yet another example of politicizing terrorism in order to push political agendas, I present Attorney General Michael Mukasey (with a thanks to Chuck Schumer and Diane Feinstein):

Criminal syndicates, and in some cases even terrorist groups, view IP crime as a lucrative business, and see it as a low-risk way to fund other activities.

As pointed out on Computer World, Mukasey provided this claim without any evidence:

Mukasey went on to cite numerous cases in which the Justice Department has arrested those who pirate software, and in which the department has cooperated with other countries in investigations. He mentioned arrests in Florida, investigations in China, and warned about the Russian mob being involved in selling pirated software.

In not a single instance did Mukasey include a link to terrorism. Not one. You can be sure that if there were any links, Mukasey would make sure to get them on the nightly news.

And why? Well here is the policy that Mukasey wants to get pushed through:

So why is Mukasey trying to convince people there's a link between software piracy and terrorism, even though one doesn't exist? To force Congress to pass controversial intellectual property (IP) legislation that would increase IP penalties, increase police power, set up a new agency to investigate IP theft, and more.

Industry lobbyists have been pushing for it. And now Mukasey is trying to convince the country that the bill needs to be passed as a way to fight terrorism.

Democrats Get Stone Walled On Tape Inquiry

Thanks to our new Attorney General. Thanks to Chuck Schumer and Diane Feinstein!

Attorney General Michael Mukasey refused Friday to give Congress details of the government's investigation into interrogations of terror suspects that were videotaped and destroyed by the CIA. He said doing so could raise questions about whether the inquiry is vulnerable to political pressure.

In letters Friday to leaders of the House and Senate Judiciary committees that oversee the Justice Department, Mukasey said there is no need right now to appoint a special prosecutor to lead the investigation. The preliminary inquiry currently is being handled by the Justice Department and the CIA's inspector general.

I'm so glad Schumer knew Mukasey was a good guy and would do the right thing. Now why don't he take Diane and they both just go to hell.
