The Pick And Choose Bible

Posted 3/4/10 at 7:39am by jamie

The American Family Association has decided to blame the death of the SeaWorld trainer last week on the company not following the Bible:

Chalk another death up to animal rights insanity and to the ongoing failure of the West to take counsel on practical matters from the Scripture. [...] Says the ancient civil code of Israel, “When an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox shall be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten, but the owner shall not be liable.” (Exodus 21:28) So, your animal kills somebody, your moral responsibility is to put that animal to death. You have no moral culpability in the death, because you didn’t know the animal was going to go postal on somebody. But, the Scripture soberly warns, if one of your animals kills a second time because you didn’t kill it after it claimed its first human victim, this time you die right along with your animal. To use the example from Exodus, if your ox kills a second time, “the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.” (Exodus 21:29)

Again this is a case of “picking and choosing” what parts of the Bible, or even Exodus 21, should be followed. For example:

Tweety Exodus?

Chris_Matthews_Tweety The Politico:

Chris Matthews is dead serious about running for the Senate in Pennsylvania - and shopping for a house in the state and privately discussing quitting MSNBC as proof of his intense interest, according to NBC colleagues, political operatives and friends.

Even so, some NBC insiders think it’s all simply a negotiating ploy to jack up his contract.

The garrulous host of the show "Hardball with Chris Matthews" has already picked out a home in Philadelphia to establish residency in the state, according to a Democratic operative in discussions with him about a potential candidacy. Over Thanksgiving weekend, at his vacation house in Nantucket, Matthews’ family gave him their full backing.

If he does end up leaving MSNBC, then it will be interesting to see who MSNBC finds to replace him. Of course it won’t be someone new. MSNBC is a strong believer in recycling – especially when it comes to talent.

BREAKING: Feds Seize Washington Mutual

Posted 9/25/08 at 10:46pm by jamie

The feds went in and seized WaMu tonight. Another financial giant enters socialism.

UPDATE:

From the WSJ:

In what is by far the largest bank failure in U.S. history, federal regulators seized Washington Mutual Inc. and struck a deal to sell the bulk of its operations to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

The closing represents the demise of what once was the largest U.S. thrift but came to symbolize many of the worst excesses of the mortgage boom. Federal regulators said WaMu has suffered an exodus of $16.7 billion in deposits since Sept. 15, leaving the Seattle thrift "with insufficient liquidity to meet its obligations." As a result, WaMu was in "an unsafe and unsound condition to transact business," according to the Office of Thrift Supervision.

The "largest bank failure in U.S. history" being the key phrase there. Tomorrow is going to be pure hell on Wall Street.
