And Gordon Brown isn't too happy about it:

The fact that US "extraordinary rendition" flights refuelled on a British overseas territory is "a very serious issue," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Thursday

[SNIP]

"We have just been informed by the United States of America about what actually happened. The United States has expressed regeet about us not knowing about these issues," he said.

"We share the disappointment that everybody has about what actually happened. I think the important thing is now that we put in place the best possible procedures to ensure that this could not happen again."

You know when we have a President who couldn't define sovereignty, don't expect him to follow it.

Lie To The World George

One of the continual problems we seem to have in this country's leadership is
its ability to be honest and forthcoming with our allies. Another prime example
of this can be seen in today's

The US ambassador in London has been forced into an embarrassing retreat
after his embassy clarified comments he made denying that the United States
was involved in removing terrorist suspects to Syria.

Robert Tuttle told Radio 4's Today programme last Thursday that there was
no evidence that US forces had sent suspected terrorists for questioning in
Syria, a practice known as "extraordinary rendition".

The US embassy issued a statement yesterday acknowledging that there had
been claims that a suspect arrested in New York had been sent by the CIA for
torture in Syria.

It is the second time in recent weeks that Mr Tuttle has had to correct
misleading statements about the actions of US forces, and provoked a fresh
outcry from Labour MPs over the practice of extraordinary rendition.

Andrew Mackinlay, a senior Labour member of the foreign affairs committee
investigating the use of UK airports for rendition by the CIA, said: "It is
troubling that they are contradicting their own assurances. We have no
confidence in the denials that they have issued. Increasingly, a number of
us ... don't believe what the US administration states any more. Nobody
believes that this is not going on."

The US ambassador provoked the row after he said on the Today programme
that he did not think there was any evidence of renditions of suspects for
questioning to Syria.

ACLU Files Suit Against Tenet

As Condi goes on her European tour of spreading lies, we are finding out more
of wrong doings by our government in the treatment of suspects through their
"extraordinary rendition". Today the

Mirror in London
reported about one such case:

FATHER of four said yesterday he was held for nearly five months because
he had a similar name to a terror suspect.

Khaled el Masri, 41 - Lebanese born but a German national for 10 years -
was taken prisoner on holiday in Macedonia on December 31 2003.

He was held there 23 days and told to confess he was an al-Qaeda
terrorist.

He said: "I heard the door being closed and then they beat me from all
sides with hands and feet.

"With knives or scissors they took away my clothes in silence ... They
stripped me naked. I was terrified.

"They tried to take off my pants. I tried to stop them so they beat me
again. When I was naked I heard a camera."

He was dressed in a nappy, a short sleeved, short legged suit and belt.
His feet were shackled and his hands chained to the belt. His ears were
plugged, ear defenders put over them and a clip on his nose. A hood was put
over his blindfold.

With his arms held high behind his back he was driven to a plane, thrown
on the metal floor and given an injection.

On landing he was put in the boot of a car and held in a jail in Kabul,
Afghanistan, for four months. He discovered it was run by the US.
