Arrest! No Arrest! No Story Here, Move Along!

Posted 4/17/13 at 4:25pm by jamie

Today was a real treat in just how screwed up our media is. It all started when CNN reported that they have a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing. That quickly changed to an arrest being made. Soon after Fox and the AP went with the same story. Suddenly, the Boston Police Department and FBI announce that no arrests have been made.

If you like roller coaster rides, then today was a big one! But instead of pulling into the station at the end of the ride, we ended up with some of our biggest names in news with a lot of egg on their face. So how does the media respond to such an utter-failure in journalism? Well, if you are Fox's Megyn Kelly, you go on the defense and try to switch the story back to the actual bombing.

They key part is about half way through, when Kelly went on this little rant:

Remember When That "Union Thug" Hit Steven Crowder?

Posted 3/20/13 at 3:14am by jamie

Here's the video that went viral last year.

When that video first came out the right went into a frenzy over "union thugs". Steven Crowder even went on Fox and Friends to call the guy out:

Tony, we know who you are, come forward. I am offering you an ultimatum right now. You come forward, I press charges, you will go to jail. Or — since you like to sucker punch people — I will allow you to face me in the people's octagon, in a legal, sanctioned mixed martial arts bout, where we can settle it man-to-man, one-on-one. And all of the money that's been raised to find you, I will match it if you beat me and give it to a union of your choice. It's your choice: jail or face me like a man. Send your answer on Twitter.

Well it turns out that the man who punched Crowder won't be charged after prosecutors and state police reviewed the unedited footage and decided that he was acting in self defense. Sounds like the James O'Keefe epidemic is continuing to plague the right.

Mosque Arsonist Blames Right Wing Media

Posted 12/21/12 at 10:07am by jamie

This is troubling to new levels:

An Indiana man convicted of setting fire to a mosque in Ohio told a judge on Wednesday that he committed the crimes because Fox News and conservative talk radio had convinced him that “most Muslims are terrorists.”

Randolph Linn, 52, accepted a plea deal in which he pled guilty to all charges in connection to setting a fire in the prayer room at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo on Sept. 30. Under the deal, Linn is expected to serve 20 years in prison instead of 40.

Linn explained to the court that he had gotten “riled up” after watching Fox News.

“And I was more sad when Judge [Jack] Zouhary asked him that, ‘Do you know any Muslims or do you know what Islam is?’” one mosque member who attended the hearing recalled to WNWO. “And he said, ‘No, I only know what I hear on Fox News and what I hear on radio.’”

“Muslims are killing Americans and trying to blow stuff up,” Linn also reportedly told the judge. “Most Muslims are terrorists and don’t believe in Jesus Christ.”

Sure it isn't the first time we have heard such things. Countless times, when the authorities bust some person or group planning to bring down the government, we find out their reading material includes Bill O'Reilly, Michelle Malkin and Rush Limbaugh. The hatred spewed by these right wingers has been breeding this kind of behavior for years now, and it has got to stop.

It's interesting that this happens while our nation is in a big debate over our constitutional rights. What Republicans fail to realize is that with those rights comes responsibilities. Sure, you have a right to arms, but if you use those arms to cause harm or damage to others, then you face punishment. The same must be said about our right to free speech.

President Petraeus? Fox News' Failed Mission

Posted 12/5/12 at 12:43pm by jamie

"Fair and balanced" sure has an interesting meaning when it comes to Fox News. We're all used to their highly partisan reporting, but this story takes the political involvement of the network to a whole new level.

Roger Ailes, the longtime Republican media guru, founder of Fox News and its current chairman, had some advice last year for then-Gen. David H. Petraeus.

So in spring 2011, Ailes asked a Fox News analyst headed to Afghanistan to pass on his thoughts to Petraeus, who was then the commander of U.S. and coalition forces there. Petraeus, Ailes advised, should turn down an expected offer from President Obama to become CIA director and accept nothing less than the chairmanship of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military post. If Obama did not offer the Joint Chiefs post, Petraeus should resign from the military and run for president, Ailes suggested.

The Fox News chairman’s message was delivered to Petraeus by Kathleen T. McFarland, a Fox News national security analyst and former national security and Pentagon aide in three Republican administrations. She did so at the end of a 90-minute, unfiltered conversation with Petraeus that touched on the general’s future, his relationship with the media and his political aspirations — or lack thereof. The Washington Post has obtained a digital recording from the meeting, which took place in Petraeus’s office in Kabul.

So Ailes was trying to get the General to run for President. But even more interesting is this part:

Even FOX Is Questioning Romney's Tax Cuts

Posted 10/15/12 at 8:37am by jamie

Yesterday Chris Wallace challenged Romney adviser Ed Gillespie on rather Romney's tax cut plans were feasible. At issue was the "six independent studies" that the Romney campaign has been touting. Here's the exchange from Think Progress:

GILLESPIE: Six different studies have said this is entirely doable.

WALLACE: Those are very questionable. Some of them are blogs, some of them are from AEI, an independent group.

GILLESPIE: These are very credible sources.

WALLACE: One of them is a blog from a guy who was a top adviser for George W. Bush. These are hardly non-partisan studies.

GILLESPIE: Look Chris these AEI and other studies are very credible sources of analysis

So to Romney, an adviser to George Bush is non-partisan.

It's also amazing that the hundreds of other analysis that have come out, which say there is no way that Romney can cut the top earners tax rate by 20% without significantly raising taxes on the middle class, is just impossible. Instead Romney has chosen the very few studies that say it can be done.

But there is something even more interesting in this exchange. It's something I have hammered Romney on before - a lack of plan. Well Gillespie offers more insight into that. It shows that Mitt Romney is a man not worried about country, but worried about only him:

Ed Gillespie went on TV this morning and said Mitt Romney would only reveal the details of his tax plan after he’s sworn into office as President.

Get A Paycheck? You're A Pathetic Loser!!!!

Posted 7/15/12 at 11:19am by jamie

Michelle Malkin, right wing darling and child stalker, took to Fox news to insult every single worker in America. On Fox and Friends, Malkin made this analogy, that sums up the thinking of people like Mitt Romney:

Later in the interview, Malkin slammed President Obama’s supporters. “Romney types, of course, are the ones who sign the front of the paycheck, and the Obama types are the one who have spent their entire lives signing the back of them,” she said.

If you read Malkin at all, you know this is one of her typical insults. "You're not an employer? HA! You aren't worth crap then!".

Checkout the words coming right from the mouth of the beast:

The Birth Of A Right Wing Lie.

Drudge's big headline last night:

Which links to this piece on the Daily Caller:

Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, according to a survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide. The survey found that the majority have thought about bailing out of their careers over the legislation, which was upheld last month by the Supreme Court.

And has been hammered on by every right wing blog around:

And even the "fair and balanced" Fox News:

Fox Shifting To The Left?

Posted 2/14/12 at 10:24am by jamie

Welcome to the crazy world of Politico:

The grumblers were picking up on a strategy that has been under way for some time — a “course correction,” as Fox chief Roger Ailes put it last fall — with the network distancing itself from the tea party cheerleading that characterized the first two years of President Barack Obama’s presidency. Lately, Fox has increasingly promoted its straight-news talent in the press and conducted some of the toughest interviews and debates of the Republican primary season. Just last week, it hired the openly gay liberal activist Sally Kohn as a contributor.

All along, Fox watchers warned that it risked alienating conservative true believers as it inched toward the center.

Well, consider them alienated.

“To tell you the truth, a lot of conservatives see Fox News as being somewhat skewed on certain issues,” said Patrick Brown, who runs Internet marketing for The Western Center for Journalism, a conservative nonprofit that features stories questioning the president’s eligibility for office. “We actually did a poll recently that said, ‘Is Fox News actually conservative, or has it moved left?’ And some 70 percent of our readers thought it had moved left.”

So because FOX reports more actual news their readers believe it's a move to the left? What's that say about America's right?

But the thing is that Fox hasn't moved to the left. Ed Kilgore explains:

But you need to understand the context: The second graph of Keach Hagey’s piece cites as the prime evidence for this “shift to the Left” the current prominence at Fox of Karl Rove and Sean Hannity. Seriously.

Dear Fox, Can We Please See Articles 8-27?

Posted 11/16/11 at 12:35pm by jamie

Fox really knows their viewers and their lack of education, especially when it comes to the U.S. Constitution:

For the second day in a row, Fox's "straight news" division has hyped the claim that U.S Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan should recuse herself from the case involving the constitutionality of a provision of the Affordable Care Act. Fox pointed to an email Kagan sent to then-Justice Department adviser Laurence Tribe on the day the House of Representatives passed the Affordable Care Act in which Kagan said, "I hear they have the votes, Larry!! Simply amazing."

Legal ethicists have thrown cold water on the argument that Kagan needs to recuse herself over that email. But Fox seems to have an argument that the legal ethicists haven't thought of: Fox national correspondent Steve Centanni said Kagan's recusal may be required by "Article 28 of the Constitution." Fox's graphics department provided the relevant quote from the "U.S. Constitution, Article 28, Sec. 144":

The problem is that the Constitution has only 7 articles and what they are quoting appears in none of them. I'm sure that Fox will quickly blame the graphics department for it, but watch this video:

Anonymous Declares War On Fox News Over #OWS Coverage

Posted 10/27/11 at 5:11pm by jamie

A video posted by the hacking Anonymous stating that on November 5th they will attack Fox news servers and bring them down. The reason for the attack is over Fox's coverage of Occupy Wall Street (or should I say their propaganda against it).

Here's the video posted on YouTube by Anonymous:

The group doesn't seem to be stopping at only Fox, but also their talents. They specific label names like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly. Next Friday should be a very interesting day as this attack commences. I wonder how many extra servers Fox is ordering to try and keep up with the increased traffic from both people seeing if they are online and an onslaught of DDOS attacks.

It Has Become Really Hard For The Wingnuts To Discredit #OWS

How hard? This hard:

EXCLUSIVE: ACORN Playing Behind Scenes Role in 'Occupy' Movement

The former New York office for ACORN, the disbanded community activist group, is playing a key role in the self-proclaimed “leaderless” Occupy Wall Street movement, organizing “guerrilla” protest events and hiring door-to-door canvassers to collect money under the banner of various causes while spending it on protest-related activities, sources tell FoxNews.com.

The former director of New York ACORN, Jon Kest, and his top aides are now busy working at protest events for New York Communities for Change (NYCC). That organization was created in late 2009 when some ACORN offices disbanded and reorganized under new names after undercover video exposes prompted Congress to cut off federal funds.

That would be non-other than FOX news pushing a story that an organization, which closed-up shop 19 months ago, is behind the #OWS movement. Of course the actual article isn’t as eerie to the tinfoil hat wearing right as the headline. All we find out is that “someone” told Fox that one of the people involved in the protest used to work for ACORN, or shorter wingnut meme “how dare you liberal hippies go out and find a job after losing yours, not get to work you unemployed freeloaders!”

Did Hoffa Make Violent Comments Towards The Right?

Posted 9/6/11 at 7:50am by jamie

If you watch Fox news or read the right wing blogs, that’s exactly what you would think. Yesterday Fox ran this clip of Hoffa warming up the crowd for President Obama:

The “let’s take these son of a bitches out” is the big part the right is focusing on. You can see that by just looking at this thread on memeorandum or by reading Drudge:

But is that what Hoffa really said, or did Fox go into some creative editing? If you guessed creative editing, then you are the winner. Here’s the context Hoffa was talking in, which was conveniently edited out by Fox:

HOFFA: Everybody here's got to vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize, let's take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!

As Hurricane Katia Comes, The Right Accuses Obama Of “Over-Hyping” Irene

Posted 8/30/11 at 10:03am by jamie

Irene hit New York as a category 1 hurricane, which is much less than the category 3 originally predicted. Since that happened the right has launched a major attack on the Obama administration, accusing them of “over-hyping” the hurricane for political purposes. This started with a bunch of links on Drudge over the weekend that quickly garnered the attention of the right blogosphere (see here and here for starters) and even Fox News. Of course this helped lead to the bigger issue on the right – getting rid of the National Weather Service:

As Hurricane Irene bears down on the East Coast, news stations bombard our televisions with constant updates from the National Hurricane Center.

While Americans ought to prepare for the coming storm, federal dollars need not subsidize their preparations. Although it might sound outrageous, the truth is that the National Hurricane Center and its parent agency, the National Weather Service, are relics from America’s past that have actually outlived their usefulness.

Defending The Boss Without Admitting It

Posted 8/18/11 at 8:00am by jamie

An article currently appearing on Fox 19 in Cincinnati asks if the media is fairly covering the Ruppert Murdoch hacking scandal. After giving a vague background on the story, they go to their analysis:

In the great scheme of things,"News of the World" is pretty immaterial to News Corp.'s earnings, in the one percent range.  As one analyst said "whatever happens there is a flea on the back of an elephant,"

Where that flea becomes a bigger problem, when media entities like Fox news, which are owned by News Corp, barely cover the scandal.

The left leaning site Media Matters tracked the number of times the three cable networks covered the scandal between July 4th and July 17.  This was when the scandal first broke.

CNN covered it the most, 107 times.  Compare that to Fox news which ran only 30 stories.

News Corp Has Already Admitted To Hacking!

Posted 7/21/11 at 10:38am by jamie

For anyone out there thinking News Corp is innocent, we just need to look back to 2009:

News Corporation admitted at a trial in 2009 that computers at its U.S. marketing division, News America Marketing, hacked into the secure website of a rival U.S.-based company 11 times, according to Bloomberg.

The FBI is currently investigating allegations that News Corp, the parent company of Fox News and The Wall Street Journal, attempted to bribe police and hack into the cell phones of victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack.

Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) wrote Tuesday to Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director Robert Mueller to highlight the hacking allegation made by Floorgraphics Inc.

Floorgraphics claimed in a lawsuit that News America Marketing stole business from the company by hacking into Floorgraphics website between October 2003 to January 2004. The company agreed to dismiss the case after receiving a $29.5 million payment from News America Marketing.

So we've got an actual admission by News Corp that they have engaged in this illegal activity before, yet somehow Murdoch thinks he is innocent?

Welcome to ultimate responsibility Rupert! Your company paid out almost $30 million and admitted to hacking just two years ago, yet you claim you have no responsibility? Maybe it's time for you to go back to the land you were born, the land that was once known for being a place that criminals were sent. You should feel right at home there you ass hat!
