N.Y. Town Clerk Says She Won't Sign Gay Marriage Licenses

Sounds like someone is refusing to do their job and should be terminated:

New York’s gay weddings victory lap has not extended to all parts of the Empire State, with a rural town clerk determined to not sign any same-sex marriage licenses.

Barbara MacEwen, the town clerk in upstate Volney who is responsible for signing marriage licenses in the town, said she’s morally opposed to same-sex weddings and does not intend to affix her signature to any marriage documents for gay or lesbian couples.

“If there’s any possible way to not do it legally, then yes, I would not want to put my name on any of those certificates or papers,” MacEwen told POLITICO. “That’s their life, they can do it, but I don’t feel I should be forced into something that’s against my morals and my God.”

MacEwen said she’s written her state senator — Republican Patty Ritchie, who voted against legalizing gay weddings — to determine her legal options.

I'm sorry but the gays and lesbians in Barbara's town have to pay taxes by law. Those taxes in turn help pay Barbara's salary. Since Barbara is refusing to do her job, paid for in part by the people she wants to discriminate against, she needs to be fired. Refusal to do her job also means she won't get unemployment and anyone calling for a reference on her should be told they would not hire her back. She would still be getting off easy compared to what would happen if the LGBT community refused to pay their taxes because of her.

BREAKING: Obama orders hospitals to grant same-sex couples visitation rights

Just received this breaking news alert from the Washington Post:

President Obama signed an order Thursday night requiring hospitals to allow gays and lesbians to have non-family visitors and to grant their partners medical power of attorney.

The president ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit discrimination in hospital visitation. The memo is scheduled to be made public Friday morning, according to an administration official and another source familiar with the White House decision.

An official said the new rule will affect any hospital that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding.

That’s a step in the right direction, but I can’t wait to hear the response from the Catholic hospitals. I’m sure that’s going to be very interesting.

House Republicans Vote Against Our Troops

What does this say?

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House GOP Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) are voting against the House/Senate fiscal year 2010 defense authorization bill — because it contains hate crimes provisions designed to protect gays and lesbians.

Boehner and Pence are putting their own bigotry against the needs of our troops at a very volatile time in the Afghanistan war. Why do Republicans continue to put politics above our troops?

Call Mike Pence and John Boehner and ask them to support our troops now!

Adding….could you imagine the Democrats voting against a defense bill? Oh yeah, when they did Boehner was one of the leading voices out there saying how they didn’t support the troops. Funny how that works out.

I hope your day is better then it is here. We are getting rained on and there is talk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon with winds up to 50mph and 3/4 inch sized hail.

With the bad weather it is a good time to reflect upon our nation - where it was and where it is. I was thinking last night that 230 years ago our forefathers were in a great fight. They were fighting for a new idea and to remove an occupying force from our nation who we would no long recognize as our leaders.

Here we are less than 2 1/2 centuries later and we are now an occupying force in another nation with their citizens trying to get us out. What has happened to our once great nation?

One part of the Declaration of Independence that always comes to mind when I think about our current state of the union is this:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness

Christians Wanting To Be Intolerant

These damn Christians just have to keep up their bogus claims that their religion is "under attack". Here is the latest from these claims:

Ruth Malhotra went to court last month for the right to be intolerant.

Malhotra says her Christian faith compels her to speak out against homosexuality. But the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she's a senior, bans speech that puts down others because of their sexual orientation.

Malhotra sees that as an unacceptable infringement on her right to religious expression. So she's demanding that Georgia Tech revoke its tolerance policy.

With her lawsuit, the 22-year-old student joins a growing campaign to force public schools, state colleges and private workplaces to eliminate policies protecting gays and lesbians from harassment. The religious right aims to overturn a broad range of common tolerance programs: diversity training that promotes acceptance of gays and lesbians, speech codes that ban harsh words against homosexuality, anti-discrimination policies that require college clubs to open their membership to all.

The Rev. Rick Scarborough, a leading evangelical, frames the movement as the civil rights struggle of the 21st century. "Christians," he said, "are going to have to take a stand for the right to be Christian."

Now if for some unknown reason a court would side with Malhotra then this country will have succeeded in undoing all the good it has done since the days of Martin Luther King. Not only would gays and lesbians be under attack but this would clear the way for people to be under attack because of the color of their skin, the language they speak and even who they pray to. Yup - if this case passes then I have the right to get in the face of these bible thumping, fairy tale believing Jesus freaks and make fun of them.
