Golden Rule: Make Sure Your Vehicle Is Legal When Visiting A Military Base

Posted 1/24/11 at 9:12am by jamie

Yesterday Twitter erupted with news that Jane Hamsher and David House had been “detained” at Quantico Marine Base when trying to visit Bradley Manning. Of course the Twitters and Internets quickly erupted with conspiracy theories of why they were being detained. According to Quantico, they were actually never detained, but they did have their car towed:

Quantico spokesman Col. Thomas V. Johnson says the car was towed after the pair could not provide proof of insurance and guards found the vehicle's license plates had expired. He says both weren't detained.

Anyone who has ever visited a military base before, as these two reportedly have, knows that things like vehicle registration and insurance are checked. Driving on expired plates and/or without insurance is illegal in all 50 states, including military bases. If Jane and Dave would have been pulled over by civilian police, then they would have been towed, detained and given a court date. It sounds like they got off easy on this one.

Oh my – so Obama was interviewed by prosecutors last week about the Blago scandal. We found out yesterday in the released report from the transition team. Since the report showed no improper contact, the idiots on the right have to make up some new scandal. Perhaps Hugh Hewitt can be charged with this crusade:

Further, the interview occurred on the 18th, and it wasn't disclosed until today?  What happened to transparency?

How dare team Obama break the golden rule! Don’t they know that as soon as this happened, they were supposed to contact Hugh? I mean, come on. How dare they make someone wait 3 business days to find out! We are talking about Blago, not little things like outing a CIA agent or anything. National security is small potatoes compared to some greedy, idiotic governor trying to get rich.

Golden Rule Of Talk Shows

If you decide to use the host's family in an analogy, make sure you are aware rather the person is alive or dead.

Terry McAuliffe said this on Meet the Press today:

"But it's not impossible for Hillary Clinton to win," said McAuliffe. "A lot of people have said that. Big Russ, if he were sitting here today -- nothing's impossible. Jack McAuliffe, if they were with us today, they're probably both in heaven right now Tim, probably having a scotch, looking down saying, you know what: this fight goes on. It's good for the Democratic Party. Millions of people coming out to vote, it's exciting."

Big Russ, as in Tim Russert's father, is still alive.
