In a week from today, there will be a congressional
election held one district to the east of me. The election will be to replace
Rep. Rob Portman who was recently appointed as the US Trades Ambassador. This is
a key election as it stands a good chance at tipping the political scale a
little more to the right, something we badly need.
The candidates are acting representative Jean Schmidt and
Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett.
Hackett is a Democrat who just recently returned home from the Iraq war. He
offers to bring a true perspective to our Congress, one from the eyes of a
marine fighting in the war.
Cincinnati Post endorsed Paul Hackett. This came as a total surprise to me.
Growing up in the Cincinnati area, I have always known the Post to favor the
conservative. It is no shock, as Cincinnati is an extremely conservative town
and the 2nd Congressional district of Ohio, where Hackett is running,
gains most of its population from suburbs of Cincinnati. In my entire life, I
have never known the Cincinnati Post to endorse a Democrat.
This is hopefully a sign of change here in the Buckeye
State. We are currently burdened with scandal at the state level. Our Republican
state government has lost millions of dollars out of our workers compensation
fund by investing it into rare coins. Numerous investigations are going on and
it could even implicate our Republican Governor, who was recently rated as the
worse Governor in the country.
Be sure to keep an eye on the news next Tuesday and wish
Paul Hackett luck in helping the good fight to restore decency and
accountability to our scandalous federal Government.
