And They Really Consider Matt Drudge A "News Source"?

Posted 5/18/11 at 5:32pm by jamie

There has been so much news lately of how much of a "valuable news source" Matt Drudge is. Let's look at this "valuable" information. Here's two headlines appearing at the top of his page right now:

The original story from Esquire is here. Interesting enough, when you read it you will notice how it is tagged:

Notice that last tag? It says 'humor'. In other words, this piece was a satire piece. Now this story has been up on Drudge for less than 2 hours (3:30pm est), but look at what was added to the article 3 hours before that:

Forgot Where You Were? Ask Your iPhone!

Posted 4/20/11 at 2:38pm by jamie

It turns out Apple has snuck a “feature” into their latest version of iOS, which powers iPhones and iPads. It’s a little tracking software that logs everywhere you have been:

It turns out that your iPhone is keeping a record of everywhere you've been since June. This data is stored on your phone (or iPad) and computer, easily available to anyone who gets their hands on it. Why? Apple won't say. We're creeped out.

The enormous privacy startle, apparently enabled by this summer's iOS 4 release, was discoveredby two security researchers, one of whom claims he was an Apple employee for five years. They're equally puzzled and disturbed by the location collection: "By passively logging your location without your permission, Apple have made it possible for anyone from a jealous spouse to a private investigator to get a detailed picture of your movements," they explain. All it would take to crack the information out of your iOS device is an easy jailbreak. On your computer, the information can be opened as easily as JPEG using the mapping software that the security experts have made for download--Try it yourself.

Apple didn’t tell anyone about this and there’s not even a way to disable it.

So why in the hell would Apple even do this? One thought was for advertising, but that goes against their policies. Another thought is that the government has asked them. If that’s the case, then why is this only in Apples and not in other mobile devices? I think these would be great questions that Congress should seek answers to.

New Year, New Winger Crapspiracy Theories

Posted 12/29/10 at 8:26am by jamie

obamaindianAs we get ready to roll into 2011 the fringe wingnuts have decided it’s time to come up with some brand new conspiracy theories about the President:

The good news is that the right-wing isn't talking about President Obama being a secret Muslim right now. The bad news is that they're now concerned that he's going to use his honorary status as a Crow Tribe Indian to return the United States to Native Americans.

The outrage began after the President announcedon December 16 that the U.S. would reverse course and support the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. The Declaration was adopted by the U.N. General Assembly in 2007, but the U.S., under President Bush, opposed it.

I really think the wingnuts would embrace this idea. They always seems so hell bent on taking the U.S. back to the days of the wild west, so why not?

Mother Foxin Liars

Posted 6/11/10 at 8:41pm by jamie

Leave it to FOX News to manufacturer whatever they want to pass off as facts. Media Matters has done an in-depth report on Fox's continued lies about Obama and the oil spill. This one really sticks out at me:

Kilmeade: There are "problems" with BP giving "$750 million to a campaign like they did to the Obama campaign" and "Emanuel staying there with a consulting firm for BP." During the segment, co-host Brian Kilmeade falsely claimed BP gave $750 million to Obama's presidential campaign:

KILMEADE: Sure. And when BP gives $750 million to a campaign like they did to the Obama campaign in the '07-'08 period, along with Rahm Emanuel staying there with a consulting firm for BP, you wonder if somehow there might be some problems.

DOOCY: Well, clearly this is a big story, Brian. So I would imagine the mainstream media is going to have this all over the front pages.

Contributions came almost entirely from BP employees -- not BP itself -- and totaled about $70,000, not $750 million

$750 Million? How in the hell could someone read that on the air and call themselves a journalist? And who will Fox fire for this? Last year they put out that memo stating that people would lose their jobs for this kind of crap, yet no one has. Welcome to the ethics of Faux News.

Will BP Survive?

Posted 6/2/10 at 9:14am by jamie

Yesterday BP saw a huge decline in it's value as their stocks lost 15% of their value:

As BP hacked away at a pipe gushing oil at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, investors sawed off 15 percent, or $21.1 billion, of the company's market value Tuesday.

Some are pointing to the announcement by Eric Holder of the criminal investigation into BP, but the big sell off started before that in the U.K. markets, leaving it to point to BP's failure to contain the spill.

This sudden decline in value for the oil giant begs the question of rather BP will survive or not. In this clip from Rachael Maddow last night, Rachael explains how the EPA could actually nail BP for billions in court.

I believe this would be the best outcome to the situation. Sure it will play hell with oil prices for awhile, but it will also send a loud message to the oil industry that they can lose everything if they play by their own rules. It would also provide a very interesting case to watch.

Leave It To Bill Donohue To Justify The Churches Molestation Of Children

Posted 3/31/10 at 9:09am by jamie

This guy is a total disgust to humanity.

Roberts: Bill is good but you cannot link homosexuality to a pedophilia crisis in the Catholic Church.

Bill Donohue: It’s not a pedophilia… most of the victims were post pubescent…

Roberts: You know…

Donohue: You’ve got to get your facts straight. I’m sorry. If I’m the only one that’s going to deal with facts tonight so be it. The vast majority of the victims are post pubescent. That’s not pedophilia buddy. That’s homosexuality.

So what does Bill consider post pubescent?

King: What is the age?

Thomas: Ah… I don’t know. Let’s ask Bill. He seems to be the authority on post pubescency.

Donohue: 12, 13 years of age. Look, all I’m saying (crosstalk).

That’s your moral authority America. Go ahead and have sex with some 12-13 year old boys. It’s no longer pedophilia according to the legal authority of Bill Donohue.

There is a special place in hell for child molesting apologists like Donohue and his Catholic league. That place is actually below the priests who committed the crimes.

John Boehner Constantly Claims Federal Money Doesn’t Work… BUT

Posted 2/25/10 at 8:24pm by jamie

It amazes me every time I hear Boehner decry federal money as being a failure. He tried to do it on the stimulus by saying there were no stimulus projects happening in Ohio, despite one going on a couple of miles from his own house. Now we have this issue:

Nearly a year and a half after federal lawmakers gave Butler County $4.2 million to deal with the housing crisis, county leaders are still trying to figure out what to do with it.

With only six months to go before the federal government takes unused money back, commissioners heard a list of options today, Feb. 25, from county Community Development Director Donna Everson.

This money is from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, a program created in 2008 to help combat high foreclosures. You know, 2008, a time when Bush was President.

Now for some facts:

  • Butler County is the home of John Boehner (and me)
  • Butler County is 100% Republican run.

Enough facts. Now see the problem? It’s not that the programs don’t work – it’s that Republicans don’t know what the hell to do with them. People have been losing their houses around here and there’s money sitting there to help, yet the corrupt Republicans that run this county just sit there doing nothing. These are all friends of Boehner and as our representative, he should be working to remedy this problem instead of playing politician all the time.

Why Does The FBI Need A Copy Of The Edwards Sex Tape?

Posted 2/6/10 at 12:56pm by jamie

I’ve been trying to stay out of the tabloid mania that is John Edwards, but this caught my interest today:

Young also said another copy has been turned over to the FBI, which has been investigating the money that exchanged hands during Edwards' second White House campaign.

An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment.

Unless that video tape shows Edwards paying this lady then why in the hell does the FBI even need it? Edwards has admitted everything, including fathering the child, and having sex isn’t illegal, so what could this possibly add to the investigation? I can’t think of any reason.

We Don’t Need Another “Heckuva Job Brownie”

Posted 12/28/09 at 2:53pm by jamie

I’m going with Andrew Sullivan on this one:

Her latest interview on the Today show again reveals a total obtuseness. Yes, as was obvious from the original clip, it was clear she was referring to what happened after the incident occurred and the system does seem to have worked from then on. But before that? This was a massive failure by DHS, and you will notice she takes not a smidgen of personal responsibility for it.

Does she not realize how sick we are of government officials responding to obvious mistakes, errors and failures by bragging about what they did get right?

She is responsible for homeland security and scores of human beings nearly died because of her failure and survived solely because of luck and courage and the incompetence of the religious extremist.

This attitude was what enraged people about the Bush administration. If Obama wants to show he is not like that, he needs to fire Napolitano now, and explain why there are no excuses in his administration for failing to perform a core government function like ensuring that airline security is as fool-proof as possible. The rest of us have had to go through hell for years in airports only to see this happen.

If she won't resign, fire her.

Yesterday Napolitano said the system worked. Today she says it ‘failed’. This is the exact same lack of responsibility we saw during Katrina and our nation can not use another Brown leading a department that can directly affect rather people live or die. This was her first big test and she failed miserably, in a position where failure is synonymous with death. She either needs to resign or Obama needs to shit can her. Anything else is unacceptable.

Jim DeMint Trying To Slow Down Job Growth

Posted 12/27/09 at 10:22am by jamie

Dave Waldman has a great rundown of what lies ahead for the health care bill as both chambers of Congress attempt to merge two very different bills into one. Sadly the quickest path is once again meeting Republican obstructionism, this time by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) objecting to the appointment of conferees and forcing a longer path to making two bills into one.

This is a rather interesting move given President Obama saying his first of the year priority is getting a jobs bill through Congress. Instead of being able to focus on getting Americans back to work, now the Senate could face up to 3 more cloture votes to finish up health care, just because Jim DeMint wants to play obstructionist. This move isn’t going to “kill the bill”, it’s just going to slow down the Senate. Way to screw American workers over Jim! Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if Firedoglake backs you for re-election this year.

The Good And The Bad

Posted 12/21/09 at 2:30pm by jamie

McJoan over at DailyKos has put together one hell of a post highlighting the good and bad of the Senate health care bill. Bottom line – if we can get rid of the mandates I think we have something we can all stomach and then work on. In all honesty the mandates should be removed and used as a bargaining tool with the insurance companies at a later date. Of course that would mean that Democrats actually knew how to negotiate and we know that isn’t true.

A serious question to the bill supporters out there. Do you think if public options are brought up again that the very strong lobbying arm of the health insurance industry won’t work as hard to defeat them then as they are now? Short of having some serious reform on lobbying happen in the interim, I don’t see any real hope at a public option later.

I Hope Obama Is Ready For Sell Time

Posted 12/21/09 at 7:43am by jamie

Once this bill gets out of Congress and President Obama signs it, then I really hope he is ready for a sell job for the rest of his time in office.

Let’s examine the facts. The current polling shows the public very turned off by this bill:

That alone gives the Republicans an excellent platform in 2010 and 2012. Given the fact that the good parts of the health care bill won’t really be felt for 5 years, that spells extremely bad news for Democrats and can turn into trouble at the polls.

“Leaked” Justice Memo Says Detainees To Move To Illinois

Posted 12/12/09 at 10:15am by jamie

Andrew Breitbart has obtained a leaked memo stating that the detainees at Guantanamo will be moved to Illinois. Senator Dick Durbin and Governor Pat Quinn are applauding the move, but government officials are saying that no final decision has been made yet and the memo is only a “draft”.

This brings me to another issue – the leaked memo. We are dealing with a leaked government document that deals with national security. Should the Obama administration take the Bush approach and investigate the leak? Hell why not put Breitbart under oath and force him to reveal how he got it? This practice was championed by people like Breitbart when it was done under Bush’s regime, so he should welcome it again, shouldn’t he?

Socialism! Socialism!

Posted 11/12/09 at 1:08pm by jamie

Drudge has broken out the big red text for one of his “warning” headlines:

drrpsocialism

OMG! Pack up the bags and let’s all get out!

Here’s the video of Perry making the claim that, “This is an administration hell-bent on taking America towards a socialist country.”

So I guess we should all heed the words of Rick Perry, the same guy who thinks it’s a good idea to secede from the union, because Texas would do so good on their own. I just love it when morons like Drudge promote lunatics like Perry to an even bigger stage. It really does our country well.

Hannity Says “I’m Sorry” And Hell Has Frozen Over

Posted 11/12/09 at 10:09am by jamie

Spending the day yesterday on the Veterans Day Project, I missed out on a lot of great stories (though I believe the cause was worth it). One of the big stories was how Jon Stewart totally eviscerated Sean Hannity for using fake footage to inflate the numbers of last week’s Tea Party protest outside of Capital Hill. Here is the clip from The Daily Show:

And then here is the point in time when the four horsemen road in, signaling that the apocalypse has already started

I am waiting for tonight when Hannity will probably apologize for apologizing.
