Republicans Against Republican Policies

Posted 10/11/11 at 8:26pm by jamie

I have been tied up the last several days helping my sister get her new house ready so I am a little behind the news. Today I find out the wingnuts have decided to launch their own response to Occupy Wall Street, a movement called the 53%. These are Republicans against the 47% of Americans that make too little to actually have to pay income tax. Today Steve Benen brought up the most interesting point about this group:

There are all kinds of problems with the right’s approach here, including the fact that they seem to want to increase working-class taxes and also seem entirely unaware of the fact that it was Republican tax cuts that pushed so many out of income-tax eligibility in the first place.

In a rapidly growing "movement" on the right we now see Republicans going against their own policies and beliefs. First off they want to raise taxes in the middle of a recession, but only on those that will stimulate demand. We already know that Republicans fail big time in basic economics. They have no comprehension that increased demand means a need for more supply. When you need more supply you need people to make that product and that boils down to hiring. Nope, Republicans believe that if business owners have more money they will just hire and put out product regardless if they are moving inventory or not.

But the biggest thing Benen points out is that the right is now against the Bush tax cuts. That's exactly what created the 47%. So why is the right now so against the tax cuts they championed just months ago? It sounds like another case of partisanship before country or even logic if you ask me. It also sounds like the minions of the right are following the cult leaders out there. Drink thy Kool Aid little tools and don't whine if you win and your taxes go up - that's what you are now fighting for!

Doocy Asks If People Who Don’t Pay Taxes Should Be Allowed To Vote

Another hit from the asshat Fox News Network:

(h/t Cesca)

Douchey is going from the report that said 47% of Americans didn’t pay any income tax last year. Of course they didn’t pay income tax because they didn’t make enough money, but they still paid sales tax, home taxes, state and local taxes, etc.

But I wonder if Doocy and Fox would also argue that the super-rich, who avoid taxes through loopholes and offshore accounts, should also not be given the right to vote. How about big corporations, who didn’t pay taxes last year? Perhaps those companies shouldn’t be allowed to contribute money to political campaigns.

Or perhaps Doocy shouldn’t be allowed to vote, since he has no apparent understanding of democracy. Now I can wait for wingnuts to say I am trying to take away his rights.

Limbaugh On Haiti Yesterday

Posted 1/14/10 at 6:10pm by jamie

There was so much outrageous crap coming from the right wing extremists yesterday that I totally missed this one:

LIMBAUGH: Would you trust the money's gonna go to Haiti?

CALLER: No.

LIMBAUGH: But would you trust that your name is gonna end up on the mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes?

CALLER: Absolutely.

LIMBAUGH: Absolutely right.

CALLER: That's the point.

LIMBAUGH: Besides, we've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax.

This is the reason the world would have been better off if Limbaugh didn’t walk out of that hospital last month. So many acted like we should have compassion for him when he was down. Well you know what? Fuck him. Those of us, who wouldn’t have minded Limbaugh being fitted with a toe tag, remember the kind of man he is. He proved it again yesterday. He doesn’t give a shit about the lives of others, so why in the world should we care about his?

How About An Opt-Out?

Posted 8/21/09 at 7:54am by jamie

President Obama is getting more forceful in his fight for real health care reform, which is a much welcomed site. Yesterday he started invoking FDR and reminding people how the Republicans opposed social security. Then during the Johnson years they opposed Medicare. In both fights the GOP labeled the people pushing for change as “socialists”.

So I was just thinking – why not try something new? Let’s give the opponents an option to opt-out of any government run health care. Fill out and sign a simple form and you don’t have to worry about it. You can also claim this as an exemption on your income tax so you don’t have to pay as much.

Think about how that would look if we had it. When these people stand up at townhalls and start bitching about “socialism”, the congress person holding the meeting can say “hear – sign this form and you won’t have to worry about it”. I wonder how many would? My guess – not many at all.

Another Guilty Republican

Republican Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham has pleaded guilty in federal court
to income tax violations.

Rep. Cunningham Pleads Guilty

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham pleaded guilty to conspiracy and tax
violations after an investigation of the California Republican's home sale.

Cunningham has been under investigation since his sale of his home to a
defense contractor at an apparently inflated price in 2003 attracted the
attention of federal investigators.

He made his plea known at a hearing in federal court in San Diego on
Monday.

Cunningham, 63, is an eight-term congressman and Vietnam War flying ace.

In November 2003, he sold his Del Mar, Calif., home to defense contractor
Mitchell Wade for $1,675,000. Wade put the house back on the market and sold
it after nearly a year for $975,000 — a loss of $700,000 in one of the
nation's hottest housing markets.

Cunningham and his wife, Nancy, used the proceeds from the sale to buy a
$2.55 million mansion in ritzy Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Wade also let Cunningham live rent-free on his yacht, the Duke Stir, at
the Capital Yacht Club. His firm, MZM Inc., donated generously to
Cunningham's campaigns.

Around the same time, MZM was winning valuable defense contracts at a
time when Cunningham sat on the House Appropriations subcommittee that
controls defense dollars. In 2004 the little-known company based in
Washington, D.C., tripled its revenue and nearly quadrupled its staff,
according to information posted on the company Web site.
