McCain's Ploy

Posted 9/25/08 at 9:02am by jamie

Here is a possible motive for McCain's game I hadn't thought of :

McCain's ploy was transparent. To counter the public's preference for Obama's economics over his own, he would get both of them in a room and emerge proclaiming that they had reached agreement, that they had no differences. In fact, they have very real differences. McCain wants to retain tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans; Obama wants to create tax cuts for all but the wealthiest 10 percent of Americans. Obama favors policies -- through investments in infrastructure and education and through legislation enabling Americans to join unions without fear of being fired -- to build the base of the economy, while McCain's record is one of opposition to such policies. Obama favors trade agreements only when they raise labor and environmental standards with our trading partners and protect them here at home; McCain has supported every trade pact that has weakened such standards and has never said one word about protecting our standards or raising them abroad.

When McCain wanted to hold all these town hall meetings, we figured it was so McCain could surround himself by a large Obama crowd. Now it looks like McCain is trying to leech off the image of Obama again.

Have You Had Enough?

And for another dose of corruption:

Lester Crawford, the former Food and Drug Administration commissioner who resigned suddenly in September 2005, was indicted in U.S. court for making false statements related to his investments and conflict of interest.

U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Taylor announced the indictment in a court filing today in Washington.

Forget the fact that countless Republicans in Congress and in the administration have been indicted. That is sick enough. Think about how much this is now costing our nation in resources. No wonder crime is on the rise - all the law enforcement is tied up with the Republicans and their corruption. Can we indict the entire RNC now? Seriously - this is getting to the level of being organized crime.

Ohio's Top Election Offical Had Investments In Diebold!

Oh this is the accident of all accidents:

The state's top elections official said Monday he accidentally invested in a company that makes voting machines.

Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor, said he discovered the shares for Diebold Inc. while preparing a required filing for the Ohio Ethics Commission.

"While I was unaware of this stock in my portfolio, its mere presence may be viewed as a conflict and is therefore not acceptable," he said in a letter included in his filing.

Blackwell said his investments are directed by an accountant and financial adviser without his knowledge or help, "similar to a blind trust."

A "blind trust". So the man in charge of elections here also had financial ties to the company that makes the machines. Don't forget that Blackwell also promised to deliver Ohio to Bush in 2004 and was head of his campaign in Ohio. If there are any doubts that Blackwell is one crooked bastard then those should now be brushed aside.

More Trouble for Taft?

Perjury? Obstruction of Justice? Sounds like charges that are being talked
about in the Valerie Plame leak case. These same charges could come to Ohio
though. Governor Bob Taft was convicted of four counts of failing to report
donations and gifts yesterday. Now he could face the same charges that are being
talked about in the Valerie Plame case.

Tom Noe, who is at the center of coingate, reportedly met with Taft in May
2001 to discuss the operation of Coin Fund One, which invested Bureau of Workers
Compensation funds into rare coins. The statement was made yesterday by William
Wilkinson, Noe's attorney.

Bob Taft has stated he did not know of the investments until he read it in a
newspaper report this past April. This now leads to the question of who is
lying. Taft has agreed to assist the prosecutor in this case, and if he is lying
about his knowledge of the scandal, he would be obstructing the investigation.

Taft's office reiterated the statement that Taft had no knowledge of the
investments until April. The

Associated Press
left a message today asking for further comment.
