Kit Bond And Orrin Hatch – Privacy Advocates!

Posted 6/27/10 at 8:45pm by jamie

The proposed “internet kill switch”, which passed out of the Senate Homeland Security Committee last week, has met some opposition:

"Sen. Kit Bond (R-Mo.) has introduced his own cybersecurity legislation with Sen. Orrin Hatch, and he had some harsh words for a competing bill sponsored by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security. Bond said that bill, which has been criticized for allegedly giving the president a 'kill switch' over the Internet, weighs down the private sector with mandates and puts too much on the plate of the already overburdened Department of Homeland Security. Sen. Bond's bill would create a new position in the Pentagon, reporting directly to the President, in charge of coordinating all civilian cybersecurity. Any private-sector involvement would be voluntary and free from legal challenge, rather than mandated."

Remember when Bond and Hatch thought it was well within the authority of the government to force private telecommunication companies to spy on phone calls without a constitutionally mandated warrant? Wow things are different now that we have a Democrat in the White House.

Democrats Break GOP Filibuster On Jobs Bill

Posted 2/22/10 at 7:34pm by jamie

Without the help of Ben Nelson, Democrats were able to break the GOP filibuster on the jobs bill with the help of Kit Bond, George Voinovich, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and Scott Brown.

The final vote was 62-30, with Frank Lautenberg missing the vote because of his chemo.

As Aravosis points out, Conservatives are on fire going after Brown. It appears the honeymoon is officially over:

it wasn't just the people of MA who put you where you are. Next time you vote like that I expect to be kissed first!

Well, I guess we worked our tails off to get another RINO elected. I'm so disappointed in Scott Brown

Hey, Massachusetts! How do you like Scott Specter?

You dont understand - We Americans Had Drawn A Line In The Sand With @scottbrownma - Its All Gone Now. #traitor

Michael Savage totally called it... @SCOTTBROWNMA sucks!

Adding…. This bill is mostly nothing but tax breaks for small business. Again we see a large number of Republicans voting against reducing taxes. What platform do they have now besides being the party of no?

More GOP Blackmail Exposed

Posted 2/5/10 at 7:44am by jamie

Yesterday it was Kit Bond, today we have Richard Shelby:

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) has put an extraordinary "blanket hold" on at least 70 nominations President Obama has sent to the Senate, according to multiple reports this evening. The hold means no nominations can move forward unless Senate Democrats can secure a 60-member cloture vote to break it, or until Shelby lifts the hold.

So this is the Republican games being exposed? They will do what they can to really run up government spending, then blame it all on the Democrats. It’s time to stop trying to play nice with these assholes and go nuclear. President Obama should hold a prime time press conference and call these Republicans out by name for their games. The American people need to be made aware of what is going on and if the RNC and tea party want to support these assholes, then they also need called out. It’s time to fight back.

How The GOP Really Governs

Posted 2/4/10 at 6:08pm by jamie

This is the kind of news that should be plastered on every network tonight:

The U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to confirm Martha N. Johnson as head of the General Services Administration, nearly 10 months after she was first nominated to head the federal agency.

Upon assuming office, Johnson "will become the first permanent Administrator of the General Services Administration in nearly two years."

Earlier in 2009, Johnson was unanimously approved by members of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. But a single senator, Republican Kit Bond from Missouri, has used his symbolic 'privilege' to hold up consideration of Johnson's nomination since last summer. The delay was meant to pressure GSA administrators to approve a $175 million federal building project in Kansas City.

A nomination held up for 10 months because a damn Republican wanted his pork. Why isn’t the tea baggers or Republicans calling out this crap? Because they are damn hypocrites – every single one of them.

Serious Question

Posted 3/3/09 at 10:17am by jamie

Why don’t the conservatives embrace John McCain? I thought the very base of the conservative movement was fiscal conservatism. Well John McCain went off yesterday about the recent earmarks, like the $250 million David Vitter won, or the $114 Richard Shelby won, or even the $86 million Kit Bond won, but conservatives will rush to these guys before McCain. Perhaps the Republicans, and conservatives in particular, can now see where their identity crisis lays – when it comes time to stand up for their beliefs their asses seemed to be glued to the seat.

Another GOP Senator To Retire?

Posted 1/10/09 at 8:37am by jamie

Kit Bond announced this week that he would not be running for re-election in 2010, but now there are hints that George Voinovich may also be following suit:

U.S. Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio is leaving open the possibility of not running for re-election in 2010.

Voinovich, 72, is thinking about the challenging economic situation in Ohio, the direction of the country, and the best interests of his family, said spokesman Chris Paulitz.

The senator would let the people of Ohio know quickly if he decides not to seek a third term, Paulitz said.

The Columbus Dispatch, citing sources, reported Friday that Voinovich had shuffled his fundraising team and told his staff he might not run again.

Considering the Democratic trends in Ohio over the past couple of cycles, this could become a good pickup for Democrats in 2010. Incidentally 2010 was supposed to be a defensive year for Democrats, but the way Republicans are quitting, it is becoming much more offensive.

Time To Waterboard Some Republicans!

Posted 12/12/07 at 12:24pm by jamie

After all it's just like swimming. Just ask Republican Senator Kit Bond:

Since television is taking a major turn towards reality shows, this could become a great new hit. Everyone who defends waterboarding gets a chance to prove how gentle it is by getting waterboarded on national television.

Pat Roberts Gives More Proof Of His Hate For America

Posted 12/3/05 at 4:12pm by jamie

On a rather slow and quiet Tuesday about a month ago a hell broke loose on
Capital Hill when Harry Reid shut down Senate to demand answers on the stalling
of the next phase of the pre-war intelligence report. It lead to outbursts
before the cameras and a new political fight. It also resulted in a committee
being set up to find out why the Intelligence Committee hadn't done their job.
Sen. Roberts said after Congress was reopen that the following week he had
scheduled for nothing but meetings on phase two. Now that is appearing to be a
lie according to

Raw Story
:

Phase II, the follow-up to the Senate Intelligence Committee’s
investigation into pre-war intelligence on Iraq, is still facing opposition
from administration officials and has seen little action from the
committee’s chairman, Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), RAW STORY has learned.

Following a surprising move early last month by Senate Minority Leader
Harry Reid (D -NV), in which he shut down the Senate in an effort to force
discussion on the inquiry, the Senate leadership established a six member
bipartisan task force and set a Nov. 15 deadline for a progress report.

The six task force members selected were Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV),
Carl Levin (D-MI), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Pat Roberts (R–KS), Trent Lott
(R–MS) and Kit Bond (R-MO).

A week later, on Nov. 8, the Senate Intelligence Committee staff briefed
task force members on the investigative work done thus far.
