Mark Foley Supports Online Predators

Posted 6/11/11 at 8:41am by jamie

Sean Hannity decided to have disgraced former representative, Mark Foley, on his show to discuss the Anthony Weiner non-sex "scandal". Foley, who was forced to resign after sending sexually explicit messages to underage congressional pages, told Hannity that it should not be illegal to send such messages to minors (via Think Progress):

This is really amazing, especially since Foley was such a crusader on stopping child pornography.

It also shows how Fox views Weinergate. Foley was involved in extremely sexual exchanges with children under the age of 18. Not only that, these were children sent to our nation's capital to be taken care of by one of our branches of government. Foley betrayed the trust of these children and of our nation when he decided to pursue these children. And while there are reports that Weiner did engage in his naughty talk with a 17 year old, what Foley did was much worse, but not as bad as the cover-up.

Foley's activities were known about by Republicans on Capital Hill for years. Even then majority leader John Boehner and then-speaker Dennis Hassert admitted to knowing about Foley's problem at least a year before it was made public. The two most powerful members of the House of Representatives didn't want to protect the children in their charge - they wanted to protect the predator in their caucus.

Putting The Boehner Affairs Into Perspective

Posted 2/4/11 at 8:34am by jamie

100511_john_boehnerThe National Enquirer story on John Boehner’s boner came out yesterday. While I haven’t yet seen the entire article (our stores are always late getting the recent editions), something posted in the on-site excerpt really got my curiosity going:

But The ENQUIRER learned that Deborah was nowhere to be seen when the ruggedly handsome congressman attended a casino party at the home of a D.C. lobbyist in August 1997 - and reportedly hooked up with pretty congressional press secretary Leigh LaMora.

What really interests me here is the person and timeframe. In 1997, John Boehner was chairman of the Republican Conference, meaning he held a leadership position in the House. Not only was Boehner a superior to LaMora in terms of being a congress person, but he also had the added bonus of being part of the leadership. This could really fall under sexual harassment.

Now let’s think back to that same timeframe and another case of sexual harassment that gained the nation attention. That would be Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Even though the actual impeachment of Clinton revolved around an issue of perjury, that perjury was committed in connection with sexual harassment.

That is really interesting and could explain why Boehner was one of the softer Republicans on Clinton.

Boehner Drinks It Up During The Tucson Memorial Service

Posted 1/13/11 at 7:45am by jamie

This guy has absolutely no morals at all:

Speaker John Boehner will host a cocktail party for the Republican National Committee at the same time that President Barack Obama will be addressing the nation at the memorial service for victims of the Tucson shooting.

The Ohio Republican is holding a 7 p.m. cocktail reception Wednesday night for 168 RNC members, who are in the Washington area for an annual meeting. The event is sponsored by Boehner’s political action committee and will take place at Maryland’s National Harbor resort

I think the RNC would fully understand if Boehner would have bowed out of the event because of the incident this weekend. He is the leader of the people’s House after all. This is just another indication of what a piss-poor leader John Boehner is.

John Boehner’s Unemployed Brother Has No Problem With His Brother’s Vote

Posted 7/23/10 at 7:23pm by jamie

This is an interesting article from the AP:

A brother of U.S. House Republican leader John Boehner (BAY'-nur) would have seen his unemployment benefits dry up if the congressman had succeeded in his push to defeat an extension-of-benefits bill passed this week.

Boehner and most fellow Republicans opposed the measure Thursday, but 61-year-old Bob Boehner said Friday he isn't bitter.

Bob says he doesn't want his brother voting for government programs that aren't paid for, even if that hurts him. He lost his job with the southwest Ohio city of Reading in February.

Well that’s really nice and brotherly, but there is something interesting here. The bill that passed was for the people on long-term unemployment. Bob is still in his initial 6 month period for Ohio, meaning he hasn’t even hit his first extension. In other words, while the people weren’t getting paid, Bob still was. That’s a nice little fact for the AP to omit.

Another thing worth mentioning. Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) is very good. I have been in it from my firefighting days and my father is a retired city worker getting a very nice pension from it. I don’t know how long Bob Boehner has held his job, but I got a feeling his future isn’t looking as dark as those 30-50 year olds that have no future right now.

Again – just some little facts to put this into perspective.

Speaker Hoyer?

Posted 7/2/10 at 7:10am by jamie

If the Republicans don't win the House back in the fall, then they have a backup plan:

Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) is trying to foment a long-shot Democratic rebellion against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that would install House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) in her place after the November elections.

The scenario, as Simpson sees it, runs like this: Democrats lose a bunch of seats but cling to a narrow majority. If a handful of Democrats withhold their votes for Pelosi, Democrats would have to put up another candidate, or else Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) would become Speaker.

“I’m trying to help Steny,” Simpson said with a smile. “If it gets close enough, six or eight Blue Dogs could make the difference,” he added, referring to the Blue Dog Coalition of fiscally conservative House Democrats.

Simpson said a similar dynamic toppled Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) from the Speaker’s post after losses in the 1998 elections left Republicans clinging to a narrow majority.

You got to give Republicans credit for one thing; they don't hide their hatred for Nancy Pelosi. Having said that, this sounds like a plan to make the House as dysfunctional as the Senate.

Rep. Joe Barton Shows BP Some Lovin’

Posted 6/17/10 at 11:46am by jamie

This is absolutely amazing. Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) apologized to BP today for the “shakedown” from the President:

This is so bad that even John Boehner is distancing himself from it:

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) broke with a top Republican on Thursday who suggested BP had suffered a "shakedown" by being forced to set up a $20 billion fund to pay out damages.

Boehner distanced himself from remarks by Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) lamenting the BP fund, with the GOP leader expressing thanks for the fund.

“They’ve agreed to put this $20 billion dollars in escrow," Boehner said during an appearance on Fox News. "I don’t know what context Mr. Barton was making that remark, but, I’m glad BP has accepted responsibility for their actions.”

TPM is also compiling a list of Republicans who appear to share the same sentiment for BP.

John Boehner Wants Taxpayers To Pay For BP's Mess

Posted 6/10/10 at 3:00pm by jamie

Unbelievable:

Congressional Democrats and the White House are toying with different ways to force BP to cover the costs of damages from the Gulf oil spill. But they face stiff opposition from industry...and it seems leading Republicans. In response to a question from TPMDC, House Minority Leader John Boehner said he believes taxpayers should help pick up the tab for the clean up.

"I think the people responsible in the oil spill--BP and the federal government--should take full responsibility for what's happening there," Boehner said at his weekly press conference this morning.

This would basically be a bailout for BP and Boehner is pushing for it? I wonder how the Tea Party would like that one.

Obama Proposes A Spending Freeze

Posted 1/26/10 at 8:46am by jamie

This really seems like a game of politics to me:

resident Barack Obama will call in his State of the Union address for a three-year freeze on spending for many domestic programs as part of his strategy to rein in the deficit, administration officials said.

The proposal, which wouldn’t affect spending on national security, would save an estimated $250 billion over a decade and reduce the deficit by $10 billion to $15 billion in 2011, according to the two officials, who briefed reporters on the plan. Last year’s budget shortfall was a record $1.4 trillion.

Obama will unveil the plan in his address to a joint session of Congress tomorrow night and include it in the fiscal year 2011 budget he’s set to deliver to lawmakers Feb. 1, the officials said.

Then you got the Republicans questioning the move:

Boehner’s Chief Of Staff Dies Unexpectedly

Posted 1/10/10 at 5:21pm by jamie

Via FOX News

A 46-year-old top aide to House Republican Leader John Boehner died suddenly, reportedly from a heart attack, the minority leader announced Sunday.

"It is with profound sadness and shock that I announce the passing of Paula Nowakowski, my longtime chief of staff, trusted aide, and friend, who died suddenly last night. Words cannot adequately express the sorrow and disbelief I and every member of our team are grappling with today in the wake of this stunning news," Boehner said in a statement on his House leadership Web site.

"We will remember Paula as she would want to be remembered -- as a tireless worker, faithful friend, rabid Detroit sports fan, whip-smart strategist, warrior for freedom, and devoted Catholic who counted President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II among her greatest heroes. She will never be replaced, or forgotten," Boehner continued.

Only 46. What a shocker.

Boehner Introduces A Meaningless Christmas Resolution

Posted 12/10/09 at 8:40am by jamie

This is something the GOP does every year and despite all the problems the nation faces this year, the Republican leader won’t break from tradition. Here is the resolution:

Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and

Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment of the Constitution, in prohibiting the establishment of religion, would not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;

(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and

(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions by those who celebrate Christmas.

How about a resolution honoring Hanukkah? How about Kwanza? Oh wait! The Republicans think Kwanza is some faux holiday.

But the most interesting part of Boehner’s resolution is his apparent hypocrisy:

It was just six weeks ago that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) decided he was fed up with empty, meaningless congressional resolutions. These largely symbolic measures are taken up all the time -- it's been routine fare for years -- but Boehner decided they're now evidence of Democratic negligence. "These are your hard-earned tax dollars at work," Boehner scoffed.

In the spirit of the season I want to offer John Boehner some free advice that might help him save face on this. Figure up how long it will take for this resolution to pass. To help you out I did a little math:

Golfin’ John

An image of John Boehner at the AT&T National ...

Everyone knows that Boehner loves his golf, but it turns out he loves it a little too much:

By all public estimations, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is a pretty good golfer.

He should be, given the $82,998 his political action committee has spent on golf outings so far this year, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

I bet all the people who donate to his PAC are glad that their money is going to something as important as golfing. What’s also interesting is how much Republicans get on Obama for golfing, yet they won’t mention Boehner’s obsession.

Being one of Boehner’s constituents, I can safely say he worries more about golfing than he does his own district. He doesn’t do crap for people around here and the people are finally getting fed up.

House Republicans Vote Against Our Troops

Posted 10/8/09 at 7:36pm by jamie

What does this say?

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House GOP Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) are voting against the House/Senate fiscal year 2010 defense authorization bill — because it contains hate crimes provisions designed to protect gays and lesbians.

Boehner and Pence are putting their own bigotry against the needs of our troops at a very volatile time in the Afghanistan war. Why do Republicans continue to put politics above our troops?

Call Mike Pence and John Boehner and ask them to support our troops now!

Adding….could you imagine the Democrats voting against a defense bill? Oh yeah, when they did Boehner was one of the leading voices out there saying how they didn’t support the troops. Funny how that works out.

RNC Versus Republicans?

Posted 10/5/09 at 7:41am by jamie

It looks like there is some bigger troubles brewing inside the Republican ranks:

GOP leaders, in a private meeting last month, delivered a blunt and at times heated message to RNC Chairman Michael Steele: quit meddling in policy.

The plea was made during what was supposed to be a routine discussion about polling matters and other priorities in House Minority Leader John Boehner’s office. But the session devolved into a heated discussion about the roles of congressional leadership and Steele, according to multiple people familiar with the meeting.

The congressional leaders were particularly miffed that Steele had in late August unveiled a seniors’ “health care bill of rights” without consulting with them. The statement of health care principles, outlined in a Washington Post op-ed, began with a robust defense of Medicare that puzzled some in a party not known for its attachment to entitlements.

This just highlights the problem the RNC has had – no clear leadership. On one hand some want to jump up and act like the savior, while on the other hand - who would want to be seen piloting the sinking ship? Sure the media wants you to think that the Democratic party is the sinking ship right now, and while their numbers are going down, so are the Republican numbers. When was the last time that the opposition party had approval ratings so low?

That Gang Murder In Chicago?

Posted 9/29/09 at 9:28am by jamie

The right has been seizing on the brutal murder of a teen, Derrion Albert, in Chicago by feuding gang members. Reports are that Albert just happened to walk into the fight and became a fatality of it.

This story has been the top story on Drudge for the last day, you know since Obama is from Chicago.

drgmchic

As well as Malkin trying to take a jab at community organizing, and there for Obama:

Community organizing has not stopped Chicago’s teen violence epidemic. The Olympics will not solve this long-festering problem, either.

So if we are going to blame our politicians for murders that happen in their home towns, then can we talk about this?

An 18-year-old man is behind bars and a 17-year-old male is wanted in connection with the deadly stabbing of a teenage girl in West Chester.

Police arrested Khrendon Gray of Springfield Township early Friday morning and charged him with one count of murder. He appeared in court on Friday where a judge set his bond at $1 million.
Gray is accused of fatally stabbing 15-year-old Amber Robinson Thursday evening.

On Friday afternoon, West Chester police issued an arrest warrant for 17-year-old Rashon Martin of Forest Park. The warrant is for complicity to commit murder in connection to the death of Robinson.

Boehner To Hold Town Hall

Posted 8/25/09 at 9:05am by jamie

Last week I posted about how minority leader John Boehner wasn’t holding any town halls. Well it appears he has now decided to change course. And just check out where:

House Minority Leader John Boehner has agreed to answer questions in a town hall setting at the Voice of America Freedom Rally on Sept. 5 at the Voice of America Park Museum, Cincinnati Tea Party organizers said in a statement Monday night, Aug. 24.

Tea party organizers are expecting Boehner will to respond to citizens’ concerns about health care reform and the direction of the country in general, according to Sue White, manager of communications for the group.

Boehner can only face questions in a setting that is friendly to him. You can also be sure the media will cover this event, showing all the outrage. I just wonder if they will report that the even is at a tea party?
