Why Is America’s Right Wing Hell Bent On Killing Children?

Posted 9/15/11 at 3:16pm by jamie

Every time Michelle Obama does something to push for our children to be a little healthier the right goes ape shit, instantly associating it with socialism. Here’s Drudge right now:

The article linked by the image reads as follows:

Michelle Obama said Thursday that a pledge by the Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants and its sister chains to serve healthier meals is a "breakthrough moment" for the industry.

Darden Restaurants Inc. is pledging to cut calories and sodium in its meals by 20 percent over a decade. Among promised changes for children, a fruit or vegetable side and low-fat milk will become standard with kids' meals unless a substitution is requested.

No more French fries for the little ones unless an adult asks for them.

"With this new commitment, Darden is doing what no restaurant company has done before," said the first lady, who joined executives of Orlando, Fla.-based Darden for the announcement at an Olive Garden restaurant in Maryland, just outside Washington.

How dare she want our children to be healthier and maybe live longer! Just like that socialist Laura Bush. How dare she want out children to learn, or that socialist Nancy Reagan, who wanted our children to stay off drugs!

This is how ridiculous America’s right-wing is and it gets worst. Just read this one.

The Man Who Brought Us Ron Paul Died Of Pneumonia Leaving $400,000 In Medical Bills

Posted 9/15/11 at 11:00am by jamie

Kent Snyder, Ron Paul’s 2008 campaign manager and the man credited with pushing Paul into running for President, died at the age of 49 just two weeks after Paul ended his 2008 bid.

Like the man in Blitzer's example, the 49-year-old Snyder (pictured) was relatively young and seemingly healthy* when the illness struck. He was also uninsured. When he died on June 26, 2008, two weeks after Paul withdrew his first bid for the presidency, his hospital costs amounted to $400,000. The bill was handed to Snyder's surviving mother (pictured, left), who was incapable of paying. Friends launched a website to solicit donations.

So where was the personal responsibility here? Not only the responsibility of Snyder, as Paul would say, but the responsibility of Ron Paul himself? Paul brought in $35 million during his 2008 run and employed 250 people, yet he couldn’t give them health insurance? According to Ron Paul his own campaign would be a burden on the system.

This is another example of how people believe anything they are told. They believe Ron Paul has all these great ideas, yet apparently Ron Paul doesn’t even believe so since he doesn’t live up to them. Ron Paul is nothing but another fraud in the broken American political system.

Rick Perry–Corporate Whore

Posted 9/15/11 at 9:09am by jamie

In 2007 Rick Perry signed an executive order in Texas requiring all public school girls to get the vaccine Gardasil, which protects against the sexually transmitted disease HPV. The decision caused outrage on all sides of the political spectrum and Perry later had to rescind the order.

Gardasil is manufactured by Merck. During Monday night’s Republican debate, Michele Bachmann went after Perry over the executive order and tied it to money Perry had received from Merck. Perry claimed that he only received $5,000 from the drug maker, but it turns out that’s not the whole story:

As for the claim that Merck has given a $5,000 dollar contribution to the governor's campaign, that is true, but not the whole story.

Perry also received $6,000 from Merck's political action committee during a different re-election campaign.

Texas Ethics Commission records show he has accepted $29,500 from the Merck PAC during his entire tenure as governor, $22,000 of it prior to his 2007 order.

There’s also the story of Mike Toomey, Perry’s chief of staff. Toomey was the chief lobbyist for Merck and a state legislature before working for Perry. He also gives big to his buddy:

Toomey himself, has contributed more than $48,000 to Texans for Rick Perry during his decade in office.

So Malkin Can Track Visitors To Her Site, But Obama Can’t?

Posted 9/14/11 at 7:20pm by jamie

Here’s another great one from the queen of wingnut hypocrites, Michelle Malkin:

That’s in a post she did on AttackWatch, a new site launched by Obama for America to track smears.

So exactly what cookies are they using? Well they actually have quiet a few, which is common for most sites, but the biggest tracking cookie I saw comes from Google Analytics. That is also verified by looking at the source code on AttackWatch’s page:

<script type="text/javascript">var _gaq = _gaq || [];
_gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-30908-26']);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
(function() {
var ga = document.createElement('script');
ga.type = 'text/javascript';
ga.async = true;
ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);})();
</script>

That right loads in the the tracking code from the Google Analytic service. This is a very popular service used by site owners to get ideas of how many visitors they have and even what pages are popular. I even use it on this page, as does Malkin herself:

<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">

</script>

<script type="text/javascript">

_uacct = "UA-2595414-1";

urchinTracker();

For Claiming Their Love Of Democracy, Republican Sure Love To Screw It!

Posted 9/14/11 at 1:09pm by jamie

If you can’t beat them, change the system so you can!

Here’s the story. The electoral college is mandated by the Constitution as the way to determine the winner of presidential elections, but it’s up to each state to decide how to apportion their electoral votes. Traditionally, states have chosen a winner-take-all system, because that maximizes the state’s clout. Indeed, that’s why large and close states such as Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio are so important in presidential elections.

But now, as Nick Baumann reports, Republicans who control Pennsylvania government after the 2010 elections are pushing a scheme to apportion electoral votes by Congressional district (as Maine and Nebraska currently do). The effect would be to basically make Pennsylvania a marginal player in the 2012 election. After all, most House districts (including those in the Keystone State) have lopsided partisan majorities, so they wouldn’t be in play, and parties would be unlikely to devote serious resources to try to pick off a couple of electoral votes in the swing districts — and even less unlikely to devote the massive resources it would take to capture the two remaining at-large votes, given that it would be far more efficient to use the money in much smaller states with more (winner-take-all) electoral votes up for grabs.

Massive New Scandal That Could End Obama

Posted 9/14/11 at 10:36am by jamie

We need impeachment hearings NOW!

This morning, Fox & Friends joined the New York Post in attacking President Obama for using a paper clip. Read that again: They attacked Obama for using a paper clip.

The Post's story today on Obama's jobs bill is headlined "O gives jobs 'clip' service; $447B 'tax hike' plan bound by chintzy fastener," and its first two paragraphs attack Obama for his choice of document fasteners:

How dare that anti-American, mooslim, socialist traitor use a paper clip! He should have gone the much more costly route of having the bill professionally bound. I guess that’s what the right considers “cutting government waste”, instead of spending a few cents on a paper clip, you should spend a couple of bucks on binding.

This really serves as a reminder of how hated President Obama is by the right, including their media outlets. It’s like “feet on the desk gate” all over again. Remember that? How dare President Obama put his feet on the desk in the Oval Office, even though every other President had done the same thing before.

America Is Broken In More Ways Than One

Posted 9/13/11 at 8:10am by jamie

Last week during his address to Congress, President Obama talked about our crumbling infrastructure. One project he highlighted was the Brent Spence bridge, which connects Cincinnati to Northern Kentucky. This bridge is a part of the most major north/south corridor in the United States  - I-75. It is a vital part of transportation, meaning it’s a vital part of commerce. If it were to be unexpectedly shutdown, it would be a nightmare not only for the greater Cincinnati area, but far a large portion of the eastern United States.

The following day this area got another warning about the deteriorating bridge. In Louisville the I-64 bridge crossing the Ohio River into Indiana was suddenly shutdown because of cracks.  The video on this page shows the traffic nightmare commuters experienced yesterday morning from the closure of this bridge.

While our leaders have spent the past decade engaged in extreme partisan warfare, America has fallen apart. We have a Republican Party that looks at replacing these important parts of our infrastructure and economy as being “pork”.  Remember this scene?

Boo Hoo - David Vitter Has To Work!

Posted 9/8/11 at 11:06pm by jamie

Harry Reid might be finally growing a pair. He did something very sneaky tonight:

The handful of Republican members who had planned on skipping President Obama’s jobs address to a joint session Thursday night might have to think again.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has scheduled a vote for Thursday to proceed on a measure related to the country’s debt – a can’t-miss vote for most members.

The timing of the vote? Right after Obama’s 7 p.m. jobs speech.

But hooker using, still Republican Senator David Vitter is having a little hissy fit over it:

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), who had sent an e-mail to supporters Wednesday trumpeting his decision to skip the speech and host a New Orleans Saints party instead, said Thursday that he would remain in Washington for the speech and vote – but he was not pleased to be doing so.

In a second e-mail to supporters and in messages on Twitter and Facebook, Vitter accused Reid of playing politics by scheduling the debt vote for Thursday night.

Did Hoffa Make Violent Comments Towards The Right?

Posted 9/6/11 at 7:50am by jamie

If you watch Fox news or read the right wing blogs, that’s exactly what you would think. Yesterday Fox ran this clip of Hoffa warming up the crowd for President Obama:

The “let’s take these son of a bitches out” is the big part the right is focusing on. You can see that by just looking at this thread on memeorandum or by reading Drudge:

But is that what Hoffa really said, or did Fox go into some creative editing? If you guessed creative editing, then you are the winner. Here’s the context Hoffa was talking in, which was conveniently edited out by Fox:

HOFFA: Everybody here's got to vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize,let's take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!

Obama’s Missed Opportunity On Owning The Jobs Debate

Posted 9/1/11 at 8:25am by jamie

By now you have probably heard that the White House gave into John Boehner’s demands to move the date of Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress on jobs. Instead of the speech being next Wednesday, we will not have to wait until Thursday so that nothing interferes with the Republican debate next week.

This is another sign of the Obama administration being weak on politics and commanding the lead in any debate and there are a few reasons for this.

The Front Runners

Posted 8/15/11 at 7:38pm by jamie

The big buzz today has been the change in the GOP Presidential field. Essentially we are now looking at three candidates. Here they are in this screenshot from the HuffPo:

So the three we have to watch out for are Romney, Perry and Bachmann. All three of them are scary and can pose a possible challenge to President Obama, but one really stands out. This is one that I have warned of before - Michele Bachmann (see here, here and here). Still, I hear countless on the left saying there is no way Bachmann will get the nomination, let alone win. I have to disagree with these people and our changing political landscape is all the evidence I need.

First off there were dozens of races last year the pundits and politicians thought a fringe candidate wouldn't win, yet we ended up with a lot of "Tea Party" candidates in Congress. This should have been a wake up call to people on the right and left, but it wasn't. Instead they still look at candidates like Bachmann and feel there is no way she can win.

So how can this all go against the left? Let's start with the primary. First off we have Rick Perry and Mitt Romney, both of which don't have the best records in terms of conservative values. Bachmann places a lot better and her lack of actual leadership can actually prove to be a plus against these two.

Things No One In Congress Talk About Cutting!

Posted 7/29/11 at 10:38am by jamie

Something going around Facebook right now really got me thinking:

Entitlement? I PAID cash for Social Security insurance! Our benefits aren’t charity or a handout! Congressional benefits—premium federal health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days—now THAT’S welfare! And they have the nerve to call retirement an entitlement! Repost if you are sick of their crap.

In all this talk of government cuts, have we once heard anyone in Congress say "hey - maybe we should cut congressional pay"? How about cutting staffs or perks while we are at it? The answer is no!

And the more I thought about this, the more my blood would boil. I finally decided to compare the average salaries of workers to the salaries of our members of Congress. In doing so, I created the following graph:

(Data sources: Wikipedia and SSA)

While Americans struggle to pay the bills and feed their families, members of Congress continue to live the good life. They receive a salary most of us can only dream of and benefits many of us would kill for.

News Corp Could Face Criminal Prosecution In The U.S.

Posted 7/11/11 at 9:09pm by jamie

The phone hacking scandal that has plagued the U.K. and gripped the attention of the world could really come home here in the U.S. now. News Corp is an American corporation, and while the entire hacking scandal has been solely in the U.K. (as far as we know), the U.S. does have laws against what News Corp is accused of:

Rupert Murdoch's News Corp could face probes by U.S. authorities for possibly violating bribery laws, compounding the media mogul's problems after a phone-hacking scandal in Britain.

The Obama administration has significantly stepped up enforcement of anti-bribery laws in the last two years, winning big settlements from the likes of Daimler AG and BAE Systems Plc by focusing on bribes they paid to foreign officials to win lucrative contracts.

Bribes for business have represented the bulk of these anti-bribery cases brought by the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission. It is unclear whether U.S. authorities would use scarce resources to probe News Corp over bribes allegedly paid to British police and other officials for information that became news scoops.

This would be huge if it actually happens. Some might claim that the law can't be enforced since the alleged crimes happened in another country, but that isn't the case. A prime example is child sex laws. Fly over sees to rent a 14 year old hooker and once back in the U.S., you can be arrested. This is something that has been on the books and successfully prosecuted for years.

Of course this also means that the Murdoch supporters on the right will soon cry political-foul. It's already starting. Here's how Drudge is pushing this story right now:

A Chart Worth 1,000 Words

Posted 6/15/11 at 8:18pm by jamie

Bob Cesca has posted the following chart, showing how the share of income labor sees is at a historic low:

What's interesting is how much the share dipped during the Bush years. During Clinton's term, the rate was on the rise, after a substantial fall during the Reagan and Bush 41 years.

So what does all that mean? Trickle down works!

Of course the trickle down I'm talking about isn't the one Republicans push. Instead it's one that see's the wealth of America rapidly decrease as the money trickles down to the mass population.

And speaking of Republican economics, this highlights another problem. Look again at the big dip in the Bush years. Republicans constantly told us how bigger tax cuts to corporate America would mean more jobs and better wages. Care to re-think that position?

In a world of supply side economics, the equating factor is simple - if the people have more money then they will buy more goods. Instead Republicans want you to think that if the big corporations have more money, they'll hire more people and put out more goods, even if those goods won't sell. It's that kind of thinking that will keep us in a recession and cause our middle class to keep declining. It's that kind of thinking that the media and right wing has pushed for years and so many Americans now buy into it, despite the historic numbers showing something totally different.
