Local Media Asks If Boehner’s Rise Will Help His Constituents

Posted 11/4/10 at 8:02am by jamie

JohnBoehnerAn article appearing in today’s Dayton Daily News, as well as a bunch of other local newspapers in Ohio’s 8th, has me laughing:

As John Boehner’s political star rises quickly toward a likely term as Speaker of the House, his constituents in the 8th District may wonder how the job has affected others who have held it.

The past two Republican Speakers of the House represented their home districts well, according to newspaper editors within the representatives’ respective districts.

Dennis “Denny” Hastert, R-Illinois, had a constant presence in his district before, during and after he was the 59th Speaker of the House of Representatives.

John Russell, associate news editor with the Beacon-News in Aurora, Ill., said Hastert hung out at local barber and coffee shops, and, as an antique car enthusiast, hung out at auto shops.

One of the largest complaints about Boehner, one that is shared amongst Democrats and Republicans alike that he represents, is that he doesn’t do enough in this district and is never around. Do they really think that will change now? Boehner avoids this are like the plague. As matter of fact when Boehner was asked about what he has done for his district he couldn’t even name five things. That’s horrible given the number of years he has served.

DNC Fires Back At John “The Liar” Boehner In New Ad

Posted 7/8/09 at 11:44am by jamie

Following Boehner’s having to walk back remarks he made this weekend about stimulus money not being spent in Ohio the DNC has launched a new ad:

The most disturbing thing is that the local media isn’t covering this. If you relied upon the news in Boehner’s own district you wouldn’t hear about it. Its this lack of journalism that keep people like Boehner in office and the people of Ohio’s 8th being screwed over by him.

David Kellerman Found Dead

Wow:

The chief financial officer (CFO) of Freddie Mac, the giant US mortgage lender and guarantor, has died in an apparent suicide.

David Kellermann, who was acting chief financial officer and a senior vice president of Freddie Mac, was found by his wife in their Virginia home, according to local media reports.

This story will be interesting to watch over the next few days.

Lieberman/Lamont Debate

Posted 7/7/06 at 1:34am by jamie

I been catching up on clips and what nots from it. It my opinion Lamont showed that he is truly concerned about his constituents and the Democratic Party while Joe is worried about only Joe. Here are some great run downs from around the blogosphere.

Matt Stoller is debunking the lies Lieberman told tonight during the debate.

Jane has a clip up of Joe doing a typical Republican style attack of Lamont as well as a great thread going on about the debate

PolticsTV has the video up of the debate

And this is a doozy from Ned Lamont's Blog:

Senator Lieberman stormed out of the debate early, barely answering questions from the local media. He was hearing a lot about his anger during the debate and called it a day. Ned stuck around for questions for about 20 minutes. The result... Sean Smith, Senator Lieberman's campaign manager, fielding questions from a single repoter and Ned swamped by the press.

That will win some hearts and minds Joe - the hearts and minds of people like Malkin (oh wait - he already won that).

West will suffer more than Iran - Ahmadinejad

Posted 3/9/06 at 12:08pm by Anonymous (not verified)

You just know this is going to get nasty in the near future:

TEHRAN (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday Western countries were vulnerable and would suffer more than Iran if they continued to try to impede its attempts to develop nuclear technology, local media reported.

Speaking a day after it became clear that the U.N. Security Council would take up Iran's nuclear case, Ahmadinejad said Tehran would not be bullied or humiliated.
