REPORT: Axelrod Leaving The White House. Is Rahm Next?

Posted 9/23/10 at 10:40am by jamie

CBS is reporting that David Axelrod will leave the White House in the Spring to take up his old mantle of campaign manager for the President’s 2012 run. The news doesn’t stop there though:

The dominoes don't stop there. Rahm Emanuel, the president's Chief of Staff, may leave the White House as soon as next month.

Emanuel has told colleagues that he's very likely to run for mayor of Chicago, and that could see him depart the White House in October.

A shuffle in the White House is a really good thing. We need better ideas and new advice hitting the President’s ear. Hopefully we will see that in the coming months.

The Man Who Could Replace Mark Souder On The Ballot

Posted 5/18/10 at 6:19pm by jamie

With the resignation of Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) today, that leaves a question of who could end up replacing him on the ballot this November. Most are predicting that Bob Thomas will pick up the mantle, especially given the close defeat Thomas saw in his primary challenge to Souder a couple of weeks ago.

I don’t know much about Thomas, but from a read of his campaign website, he sure seems to be freshly picked from wingnut fields. There are two issues that really stick out at me. First is his position on Israel:

Most of us in this country are Christians, myself included, and as such we share a direct heritage with Israel. In addition, Israel has been one of only a few consistent friends of the United States, and our only reliable ally in the near east. We must never let our support of Israel waiver. Israel is being constantly harassed by the Syrians and the Iranians and until somebody does something about that there will never be any peace in the region and Israel will be a consistent target of terrorism.

That’s highlighted on his front page, but directly contradicts another one of his beliefs. Go to this page and scroll to the last video. It is entitled “Foreign Aid Is Wasteful”.  Can Thomas tell us who the biggest recipient of U.S. foreign aid is? Let me answer it for him. The biggest recipient of U.S. foreign aid just so happens to be Israel.

So does Thomas’ support for Israel also means stripping them of foreign aid? I am giddy with anticipation to here how he explains that one.

The Suicidal Blogosphere

Posted 12/24/09 at 11:03am by jamie

So much contention over the past several days has occurred within the progressive blogosphere. It’s time to do another post calling it out.

First on the agenda is the issue of President Obama saying that he never campaigned on the public option. This was a false claim, no matter how some want to spin it. It may have just been a “gaffe”, but it is something he needs called on none the less.

A lot of us are rightfully pissed over this comment, but being pissed doesn’t mean we don’t want President Obama removed from office, as some in the progressive blogosphere are claiming. To say that holding President Obama accountable to his promises is somehow calling for his impeachment is highly dishonest, and I am putting that very nicely.

The very fact that I supported President Obama means I will fight to hold him to a higher standard than someone like Bush. I have spent the last 8 years watching George Bush go against every thing conservative, yet conservatives backed him to the end. Once that end came they turned to flat out insulting him. It’s because of that damn Reagan “11th commandment” that goes “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican”. That is a horrible mantle to hold in a democracy. Our country was built upon questioning our leaders and holding them accountable, and I sure as hell don’t want to see my party start following that highly flawed logic. If we do then we are no better than the other side.

Rick Warren To Give Invocation At The Inauguration – So Much Outrage

Posted 12/17/08 at 8:57pm by jamie

obama-and-rick-warren1 There’s a lot of outrage right now in the blogosphere over Rick Warren being tapped to give the invocation at Inauguration Day. Most of the blame seems to be lying on Obama, so I think it is time to look into some not so well known facts. The actual Inauguration events are held on the west lawn of the U.S. Capital. This means that Congress is in charge of the inauguration – specifically the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. This committee has been handling the organization of inaugural events since 1901, but Congress has pretty much always had the mantle, since the Constitution does say that Congress picks when and where the inauguration happens.

This year’s JCCIC is chaired by Diane Feinstein. The other members are; Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, John Boehner and Bob Bennett. They were the ones who picked out the lineup for the inauguration. Here is a link to the press release they issued on it.
