Another Possible Massacre.

Posted 6/1/06 at 11:24pm by jamie

How many more of these are we going to hear about?

The BBC has uncovered new video evidence that US forces may have been responsible for the deliberate killing of 11 innocent Iraqi civilians. The video appears to challenge the US military's account of events that took place in the town of Ishaqi in March.

The US said at the time four people died during a military operation, but Iraqi police claimed that US troops had deliberately shot the 11 people.

A spokesman for US forces in Iraq told the BBC an inquiry was under way.

The new evidence comes in the wake of the alleged massacre in Haditha, where US marines are suspected of massacring up to 24 Iraqi civilians in November 2005.

The more this happens the more danger our troops are going to be in. The military needs to conduct full investigations as soon as anything like this does happen and quickly bring the people to justice or make their findings known.

Deadly Week In Iraq

Posted 1/8/06 at 4:13pm by jamie

The numbers of causalities in Iraq keeps growing. First we wake up to news of
12 soldiers killed in a Blackhawk helicopter crash in northern Iraq. Nothing has
been released yet on what caused the crash but the military is working to get to
the crash site.

Three marines were killed today in a small arms clash in Fallujah. Two
marines were killed yesterday in separate roadside bomb incidents. The first
occurred about 50 miles west of Baghdad and the second about 30 miles north of
the city.

This brings the total number of U.S. fatalities to 2210 since the war started
in 2003. This month alone we have lost 30 soldiers and Marines. That's really
disturbing considering we are only one week into the month.

How many more are going to die for this war of lies?

Schmidt Lying To The House?

Posted 11/22/05 at 5:31am by jamie

There was a segment on our local evening news about Jean Schmidt's comments
regarding Rep. Murtha. Turns out Schmidt wasn't very truthful before the House
last week. This from

Ohio Representative Responds To Use Of
His Quote

Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt refused to say more Monday night about
her comments that ignited a firestorm in Washington.

However, the man she quoted, Ohio Representative Danny Bubp, is talking.

Schmidt spoke during a debate over a proposal by Congressman John Murtha
to withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq in six months.

"He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course," said
Jean Schmidt. "He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message,
that cowards cut and run, Marines never do. Danny and the rest of America
and the world want the assurance from this body, that we will see this
through.
"

Schmidt later withdrew her remark, and said it wasn't meant as a personal
attack.

Local 12 Reporter Shawn Ley spoke with Bubp Monday night near Bubp's home
in West Union.

Bubp tells Local 12 that he, in no way, asked Schmidt to deliver that
bombshell of a message to Congressman Murtha. In fact, he says he wishes she
would have left his name out of it
.

Bubp tells Local 12 he did call Schmidt last week as a constituent, to
urge her to vote against the resolution to get our military out of Iraq. He
says he was shocked when Schmidt used his name on the House floor, directing
his words toward another member of Congress.

Recruitment Woes Highlighted In New GAO Report

Posted 11/18/05 at 3:24pm by jamie

The Government Accounting Office (GAO) released a report today showing that
the recruitment levels of our military are worse than we had actually been told.
The following is a highlight of the shortfalls as described in this

New York Times
article.

  • Army, National Guard, Marines  - Signed up 1/3 of special forces,
translators and intelligence specialists it aimed for
  • Army and Marines - 20% shortfall in roadside bomb defusers over the last
    two years
  • Military overall has failed to fill 41% of its combat and non-combat
    positions
  • Marines only reached 75% of Middle East linguist goal last year

According to the report, if this trend continues it could lead to serious
troubles for our military in the long term range. Over all the report shows that
Congress and the American people have been mislead by the Pentagon when it comes
to our military. It calls for greater oversight by Congress who sets personnel
budgets for the Pentagon.

Most importantly, this report gives a clear sense that if we engage in
anymore military actions then we will most likely be facing a draft.

There is a silver lining to this cloud. It should really up the great
recruiting efforts of
Operation Yellow Elephant
.

Four Star General Fired

Army dumps general for 'personal
misconduct'

The four-star general who headed the U.S. Army's training program has been
relieved of his duties for unspecified "personal misconduct" after a probe by
criminal investigators, the Army said on Tuesday.

Gen. Kevin Byrnes was fired from his position as commanding general of the
Army Training and Doctrine Command, the Army said. Army officials did not rule
out the possibility of criminal charges.

"The investigation upon which this relief is based is undergoing further
review to determine the appropriate final disposition of this matter," the
Army said in a statement.

This is the same General who decided during the Iraq war it would be
important to send Army personnel such as cooks and mechanics to the front lines.
While this has been a somewhat common approach in the Marines, it is a rare
occurrence in the Army. Take this quote from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which
appeared on September 7, 2003:

"We've become too specialized.  Ask a junior enlisted who they are,
and they'll tell you, `I'm a mechanic,' not I'm a soldier. We need to change
that culturally in the Army."

I wonder what other training this General was in charge of? Perhaps he also
did some training for prisoner handling and interrogation techniques at Abu
Gharib. Time will hopefully tell.

More Torture. More Rigged Trials. More Soldiers Dead

Posted 8/3/05 at 4:12pm by jamie

First it was “we need an extension” now it is “we will be
done on time”. This came out of the council in Iraq that is authoring the new
constitution. If they can’t agree on how much time is needed to complete the
constitution, then how can we expect them to agree on an actual constitution?

While the Iraqi officials are debating over a constitution
and a time table, we lost another 14 marines today in a roadside bomb. The total
number of U.S. military killed in Iraq now sits at 1821. That is 1684 soldiers
killed since President Bush made his historical speech aboard an aircraft
carrier while standing in front of the “mission accomplished” banner.

Also today, the
Washington Post is reporting on document
abuse of prisoners during interrogations. The main incident involves and Iraqi
Major General named Hamed Mowhoush, who was one of Saddam’s right hand men. The
military once again over exaggerated themselves when they detailed the capture
of the Maj. Gen. They painted a picture of them capturing him in an effective
raid, when in fact he went to the detention facility to arrange for the release
of his sons.

In the final minutes leading up to Hamed’s death, he was
shoved in a sleeping bag and beat repeatedly. This beating was conducted by
soldiers and CIA officers. The autopsy report was sealed, but testimony gave to
the circumstance of his death being from asphyxiation and traumatic.

The fact that this abuse now spans different agencies of
the government proves that it is part of a larger policy invoked by the
administration. So if we are using these techniques are they working?

OH-2 - Don't Fall for Republican Rhetoric

Posted 8/1/05 at 2:20pm by jamie

The Republicans are good at shouting out one line. “Support
Our Troops”. They make it sound as though that is a Republican only stance, when
in reality it is something a large majority of Americans do regardless of party
affiliation.

So why is it then that the Republicans are so supportive of
our troops yet they won’t support a troop who happens to be a Democrat? Paul
Hackett served his country with the utmost honor and respect. He risked his life
to go to Iraq and help train Iraqi soldiers. A Major in the Marines, he made the
call to duty in order to try and get the job done.

Paul Hackett went there and did his job and came home. When
he came home we started hearing stories of how the training wasn’t going as good
as reported. He decided to try and make a difference and run for the vacant seat
in Ohio’s second congressional district.

Now that Paul Hackett is out there explaining why he
doesn’t feel we are doing the job to the best of our potential, the Republicans
feel he no longer deserves support. In fact, the insight that Paul brings back
from Iraq is not what the Republicans would consider hands on experience. They
consider it liberal views.

Yesterday, Hackett’s opponent Jean Schmidt was asked about
her past associations with rare coin dealer Tom Noe.   As soon as she heard
that, she went into the Cheney defense more of “I don’t know Tom Noe, I have
never met Tom Noe, I wouldn’t know Tom Noe if he was here right now”. Well with
Jean having an opponent who is not only a Marine but also a lawyer, he saw that
as a challenge and took it on.

Jean Schmidt - The New Wicked Witch

Posted 7/31/05 at 6:11pm by jamie

I just finished watching a debate between Jean Schmidt and
Paul Hackett, the two running for the 2nd congressional seat of Ohio.
After seeing this, I really see the even darker, and more blinded side of the
Republican – Jean Schmidt.

Paul Hackett, who returned from Iraq this past spring, was
stationed in Fallujah helping to train Iraqi forces. As a Major in the Marines,
he has the inside perspective we need in Washington when it comes to this war.
He identified the problems facing the troops when it comes to training the
Iraqis and has suggestions on how to improve them.

Jean Schmidt on the other hand does not agree with her
opponent. She feels all Mr. Hackett is doing is parroting the Democrats points
of views on the war. She says this while continuously mimicking the President’s
address to the nation verbatim. She feels we are doing everything right and Iraq
is on course. Of course the fact that she attends the funerals of local fallen
soldiers makes her an expert on this matter, as she indirectly stated on
Hardball Friday Night (see the clip at
Crooks and Liars).

The most ironic part of the entire debate was on the issue
of social security. Paul Hackett sees a system that isn’t broken but rather
“bent”. He feels the biggest improvements would come in more responsibility of
our government not to use social security as a “slush fund”. He also stands firm
on the ground that the cap should be raised on social security since every
American has an obligation to its people.
